The music video was dropped out of the blue ...it was a total surprise to fans, and it is a huge fan favorite. It really is an artistic masterpiece. I think most of us would agree we wish Black Swan was the song that had been nominated for a Grammy rather than Dynamite. I'm not sure the Grammy's will ever nominate a non-English song by them, though. =\

Just wanna precise something though: they are talking about the 'fear of losing passion' for what they are doing but when they were asked the question in interviews, they all said that it was not the case right now, they are still loving what they are doing. They just wanted to express those recurrent thoughts that all performers must have: what if I don't like it anymore, what if it all just becomes a job?

I cried with this song a LOT. They're talking about the fear of falling out of love with one of your passions. There's a phrase at the beginning of the black swan art film that says: "a dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful."

That was so exciting - I love that you pause and explain what you are seeing. I like your interpretation “success without happiness” is exactly right, unhappiness to the point of losing the passion for their art. This song has very deep connotations especially because it can apply to anyone’s passion for something in general being lost and how one reminiscent of what one used to love is now lost.
Btw, interlude Shadow is another masterpiece. Is Suga’s solo song from this album.

You were spot on with the meaning. This song is about an artist's fear of losing passion for their art. Martha Graham, a famous choreographer, said, “a dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” This quote is used in Yoongi's rap at 2:36 and then later mentioned again in Namjoon's rap at 3:35

The line that kills me the most is the repeated “film it now.” They’re scared of losing their passion, of performing with no intent, and regardless all of it is captured and frozen. It’s so simple but such a vulnerable admission that so much of their lives are preserved whether they want it or not, even if they’re faking it.

Black swan and blood sweat and tears are next level in cinematography. 2 of my fav MVS. They're art in songwriting and cinematography.
I know this was done a while ago and people probably commented on this but Yoongi doesn't love dancing lol. And that's def not Namjoons original look. Their look was what they perceived as hip hop in the beginning. They've evolved a lot throughout the years.
The song is about the loss of excitement and love that popularity and constant work causes.

At 6:03 when you talk about the aisle shot, I think it’s also referencing the fact that even when they aren’t performing, they are being watched. So even when they are off-stage they are under the spotlight. And they are also alone. Because of their fame, they haven’t had many opportunities to meet people and to just go out. So I feel that it symbolizes the result of their success and the reason why it’s difficult to find the “light” in their ocean

With everything BTS does, they put their heart on it, for the LOVE OF THEIR CRAFTS (the reason why they do what they're doing) and for THEIR LOVE FOR ARMYs ( they're showing how grateful and happy they are). BTS also always have the say in everything of their projects and they always work hard to meet their goal. They're so goofy and chaotic bunch of clowns but in their work they're like another person💜on their MVs and performances they put their hearts and souls on it, it's why ARMY like myself just get drawn to it... I really love how you've been so keen to react to their past music videos! I've always found that their past music videos are always filled with so much meanings through their lyrics, dance, cinematography etc!!! Sort of like what Bong joonho said for the Parasite movie's acceptance speech, "if we're able to overcome the one inch barrier of subtitles, it opens you up to a whole new world". I love how you've been so open to find out more about their music videos and music and finding out their artistry!!!

First of all thank you for taking time and giving us this awesome in depth reaction on this and all other BTS MV that you have been doing so far. Watch all of them and love every single of them. Looking forward to see next one and hopefully we will get this Black Swan MV behind the scene reaction as well! I also think that Spring Day would be great choice.
Secondly, BTS really do have a passion for dance but in this situation they said that this quote from Martha Graham- ''A dancer dies twice -once when they stop dancing, and this first death is more painful'' is more indication to their music. Actually it is aimed to all artist in any artform and I am sure that is the reason why you felt moved by this songs message and visual aspects, being artist yourself!
Actually they have another Black Swan MV that came out before this one. Its Black Swan Art Film performed by MN Dance Company which is more orchestra driven and has beautiful contemporary dancers from Slovenia. If you interested the link is here: ua-cam.com/video/vGbuUFRdYqU/v-deo.html Its also cinematic with a beautiful location but because I know that you are not that into choreography I am not sure how much you would like it. If you want to you can check it out, if not that's fine too.
Thank you again for all those very knowledgeable reactions and truly cannot wait another one.

Black Swan, one of their more beautiful MV's. I know some people have had to recommend, Spring Day. That's layers of story telling. Also Mic drop is just fun to watch

Thank you for reviewing the MV for BTS songs from your point of view in a language that is easy for me to understand.. I have gained more knowledge. I've loved watching blackswan ballet performances since I was little. I was amazed by the way BTS presented their version of blackswan...all the members worked hard, even Jimin, he was really good at dancing. This MV presents the art of dance, cinematography, choreography, the theater is also beautiful with their unique vocal mix, the mix becomes their extraordinary version of blackswan...

I really adore your videos ,, I mean how easily u can understand the meaning even if u r not an ARMY , like all the small details that u admire (can find) and also u make me fall in love even more with filmmaking, like mostly ppl just see their pretty faces and that’s it, but u with ur videos can show actually even more about all the hard work and passion even just about making videos for music

Omg it's a good thing that experts like you break videos like these down for us so we can appreciate them even more! I loved this song a lot already, think it's a masterpiece, but all the explanations you gave and how it goes with the lyrics just makes it all even more perfect. So thank you for that! I'm definitely subscribing!

The scene where he sits in the aisle - what I personally interpreted it was that there was a spot light on him which means as a famous person he is always watched or is always in the spotlight which can make him feel lonely. Also I saw your other videos where you saw “shadow” as a past self but in actuality shadow is your unconscious state of mind which has a dark personality hence the colour black. This reference is from a book called Map of the soul by Carl Jung. Its very deep in psychology but for this album they have taken the references from this book. Shadow is not past self necessarily but your own hidden self. Hope this helps. Love your perspective though.

The center position holds meaning in kpop. Jin is in the center of the mirrors, 3 on his left & 3 on his right, that represent the other band members. I suspect use of the entire theater has meaning as well. From on stage - to back stage - to lobby - to dressing room - to the aisle in front of house - to mezzanine.
I'm a new kpop stan so sorry if I'm wrong.

I know Jimin studied contemporary dance but I saw a little ballet elegance mixed in. I also saw him brush his hair with his fingers to the beat of the music. (Forget what that was called but is very cool right before he “falls” into the dark.) I love finding videos of Jimin’ dancing. Seems he can do just about any style.

Black Oceans also represent when fans turn off their blinking lights at a show to show disrespect while you're performing your best. It also represents turning your back against the people you once supported. So to them, if what they do no longer resonates with their fans and somehow causes them to feel disrespected or disconnected from them, then what is the point of all of their work?

I think that, like you said at 6:16 is definitely true. The spotlight is shining on Jimin and is carefully avoiding showing the audience, what would be empty chairs. So he can't see how many people there are, he can't see his success from the bottom of a dark ocean.
