I used to play this a lot on my SEGA, and now after looking at this after like 20-25years have passed - I am actually amazed how good of an RTS game this was for it's time. Truly a classic masterpiece, which gave inspiration to a lot of future RTS games.
still play it on ps2 they released it hahaha
It's not just a classic, Dune is the creation of the RTS genre. Westwood would then create Command & Conquer, but Dune started it all.

This was the first RTS I ever played. I remember my mother would take me to Blockbuster sometimes on weekends to let me rent a game. I picked this one up a lot. :)

This was my absolute favorite game when I was a kid. And the screams that the dudes would make when getting killed is the most classic scream ever.
This is my first real strategy game that I have ever played, brings back memories. BEST GAME EVER!!!
I wish they would re-release this game, I know they made a new one but man these sounds bring me back to my childhood.

i used to play the game without losing a unit, loved it so much. Taking over all buildings that could be taken and repairing them and ending up with their base was so satisfying (:
I remember being so excited to play this game after my friend lent it to me back in '95 that I couldn't go to sleep. I stayed up until midnight on a Thursday playing the devastator mission. There have been few times in my life I have ever been this excited.
I love this game. Takes me back to junior high school.
A couple of years ago, I gave my nephew my old Sega, and this was one of the games I included; he didn't like it all that much as it was a 1-player game, which I ended up playing a lot as it was addictive ;)

This is my RTS game on SEGA Genesis console. I used to play Dune II a lot of times when I was a kid. 😍
This was my first RTS game I ever played probably back in 1996. It was awesome.
I didnt had SEGA, I used to play Dune and many other sega games on PC with sega emulator. Good days they were..
P.S. Use harvesters to crush infantry, when you get overwhelmed by invasion.
It was amazing to realize Frank Klepacki remade many of the music tracks from this game for Dune 2000.
Hello there!!! There was a very good tactic, especially at more advanced levels, that I used and I was doing quite well. I'll explain it to you: when my base received a couple of attacks from enemy units and I could more or less foresee where those attacks were coming from, I began to make an "L" with my units, improving them little by little until I could begin to advance towards the enemy base ... It was pretty good for me and I played the game over and over again using that tactic. Greetings!!!
After being introduced to what Dune is & getting into the book, documentary & movies, only to realised that i used to play this as a kid & had know idea it was Dune, talk about coming around full circle!

Rented this game from Blockbuster (rip) back in the day. All I really remember is using the spice harvester to run over enemy troops.
I used to play this and more sega games when i was a kid, now its kind of weird to see that they made a whole movie saga about this lmao.

PyramidHead138 it was the first time I actually sat down and made a plan on paper to beat a game lol
+RushOn4Ever i had record for last mission with harkonnens finished in 17 minutes, no cheats!!! I had mapped all arena, counted squares where to launch death hand, where to build palace in a first place, to have 100% accuracy on main base and destroying it before 10min prepare time hits, that was awesome. Most played game in my life... on sega.
+PyramidHead138 All missions are beatable if you have some patience. Since Emperor Frederick always has a palace with a Death Hand missile, which could wipe out your construction yard any time, you probably should make an MCV as soon as you can, just in case. I myself usually actually find plenty of use for a Barracks that late in the game, because Soldiers and Troopers can capture enemy buildings as vehicles can not. You have to have the bar graph for the damaged enemy building be in red when your foot unit makes contact, but if you do, then start repairing immediately when you can, you can seize most kinds of buildings off your enemy(except for Outpost, Barracks, and Palace). As House Ordos, I seized a Rocket Turret off the enemy, and heard "Death Hand approaching," and saw the explosion just past the captured Rocket Turret--it served as bait to draw the Death hand from my main base! While I still had it captured I was able to put concrete around it, and I wisely put a good spread around once I had 1 Rocket Turret. Then I could expand its concrete, and every time my vehicles successfully felled another one, I'd put my own Wall there so the enemy would never rebuild that Rocket Turret again. Also, when I seized the Emperor's Vehicle Factory, I could make both Sonic Tanks and Devastators. I finally finished his last buildings with a vehicle group that included all 3 House Vehicles!

Yeah, that mission is a bit unfair, with enemies coming at you so hard and fast, while you need an outpost and a separate vehicle factory upgrade before you can make your first tank. I usually restart that mission several times before a bit of good luck allows me to get on the path to winning.(and Sega Genesis is still my favorite game platform after all these years).

A quad is better to use for attacking an enemy harvester, because tanks and other heavy-blasting vehicles will destroy and waste nearby spice, while light machine gun fire does not.

curiously enough, in terms of controls i found it easier to play it with a pad on genesis than on pc with the keyboard and mouse.
actually looks pretty decent for a early rts, and considering its on the fucking genesis makes it even more impressive

But when I watched this video I wanted to see what way are you using in the 2v1 battle and when I tried 54 minute, I saw the second mission is in progress and I was like "What the hell...?"

Yes, they are probably the same voice samples. Dune was made by the people who later formed Westwood, which brought us C&C. C&C was built on the Dune engine, IIRC.
This is pretty much the Great Grand-Daddy of RTS games.

This guy doesn't know how to play this game. For example, enemy soldiers could be terminated by running them over with a harvester. You don't withdraw your combat units from other tasks, and save their energy. I used to do it 20 years ago(!), and I still remember that :-)
