I'm typing this on my wife's phone. I've been building wooden boats and teaching wooden boatbuilding for over 45 years and I just love watching your project. Watching the two of you become boat carpenters, riggers, mechanics, metal workers, and electrical engineers, has been a joyfull experience. Your chain plates will be OK but keep an eye on them over the years as they can back out. You need to replace the bolts on the anchor roller with flat heads as those proud bolt heads will damage your chain and be beat to crap themselves. Best to you guys!
MP is now the official ships engineer. She has taken on so many different tasks and learned so much. i am proud of her and am sure all her new skill sets will make for worry free cruising when out in the middle of nowhere... anything that goes wrong... MP can repair it!!!!! Cheers 🙂
Hats off to beautiful MP and her father for tackling the electrical. Its not easy and requires alot of concentration. Father and daughter working together...priceless.
The issue about the lug screws is that the constant varying of the load on the chainplates will create a fretting and possibly loosen the fixing, a through bolt is much more secure and can accept that fretting without even getting loose. The lug bolts/through bars are all in shear so that any loosening of the fixing will translate to a fretting of the chainplate on the bolts that will eventually wear through.
He did put 4 x lag bolts or carriage bolts as you call them, plus two all thread rods with locknuts at each end. BTW: the chain won't rub significantly on the bolt heads as the line between the front roller and the gypsy is high above the chain guide and as the chain will be tight most of the time it won't touch the bolts.
I agree with the comment about the destroyed nuts if the chain is running on the metal - it would be better to use countersunk heads or even rounded. Great channel !
Something to remember when mixing low voltage wiring and high voltage AC: You can cross over high voltage with low volt but do not run parallel with or next to it. High voltage will induce electromagnetic Flux in the low voltage wiring and can cause a charge in the 24 volt lines as well as frequency Interference in radio and control sytems.
Thanks! If you have any concerns about the naysayer and the chain guide, just ask those professionals in the boat yard but I’m sure it will be fine. The front roller on the guide brings the chain up and over and will keep the chain between that point and the winless up in the air. Meaning it won’t touch those bolt heads. As I mentioned to him, you have a lot of good experts around you helping with that boat, and they don’t wanna see the reputation damaged by creating a dangerous situation for you, because they’ll lose business from all those commercial boats who won’t want to risk losing their ship while they’re out trying to make a living.
Hey, I enjoy watching all of this series. From work I know that the Orion will get really, really hot. It is always pretty good to make sure there are no wires or else touching it.
Same as many comments, it's a pleasure to see the neat arrangement of the electrical projects by MP and Pop! That will make life aboard a joy as time goes by! Been there, done that!
Good morning Ben hey Ben, just an observation from somebody that’s been watching from the beginning MP seems a little tired today might be the heat or she just doesn’t feel well. Take a couple minutes off your schedule and go give her a big hug. Keep on keeping on.❤😊
I'm not a structural engineer But Ben I would not worry about the chainplates you've done a great job those massive lag bolts grabbing that much wood will definitely hold up that mast . MP you and your fathers attention to detail on the electrical system is very impressive . Every piece of Yaba is coming together the rebuild has been epic Hats off to the whole crew !
david storm uk. iv watched every episode from day one when you bought the boat i just want to see her in the water finished sooo i ain't going to miss these day episodes am i lol keep up the good work you to, dave storm.
Hi Ben IMPORTANT!!! please consider the weight and scouring that the anchor chain is going to put on those bolt heads in chain guard section, that chain is going to destroy the bolt heads and those 2 x nyloc nuts...really hope you read this....
Perhaps not ideal but the could put several axles across the channel with rollers on them? An add on rather than re engineer the mount. As an alternative they could add a slider plate above the mounting nuts
@@markshepherd3195agreed. I can already see the coast guard picking them up in the middle of the ocean. The rebuild has too many safety issues and not up to marine standards. They are better off using the sailboat as a museum on a rack.
Some durable plastic like PDE would make a great liner for the chain way. Your issue will present itself in time and will become one of the many things to repair.
Look at you, MP! Snipping wire, attaching others, handling electricity like it's in your blood----you rock, lady! Ben's work on the chain plates and anchor support was epic, too. Huge grin breaking my face in two at the moment----thanks for the pain! Ha! I appreciate the dailies and the effort you two expend to bring them to us.
Well done on the electrics MP everything is now working as it should. The Chainplates look brilliant Ben and will be more than strong enough. Looking forward to seeing the Anchor in place. Keep safe and well. James.
I watch and try to support several boat building videos. The trouble I find is the size of the T shirts. The problem for us lounge chair or ex sailors is that we have expanded around the waist. 4x and 5x t shirts would aid us in supporting you.
Your spreaders are a good place for antennas and a radar if you ever put one on. They are also a great place to put a couple of flood lights shinning down at the decks, very handy for dark nights and deck parties. Yaba is looking better every day. The daily videos have been great, I can't believe you manage to get them edited and published every day. Keep up the good work. Dave
Looking through the comments, I see a lot od the nay sayers are back with their negative comments about the rebuild. It is obvious that they don't realize that these types of vessels are often out in the Atlantic with conditions similar to the Southern Ocean. But with the shipwrights that have been involved in the rebuild this vessel will handle most conditions, but I can see you two spending a lot of time coastal sailing and not venturing too far off shore. But so far so good. As to the number of thru-hull fittings that you have. That is a reasonable number for the size and use you will be using Yaba for. MP, you have done an excellent electrical refit under the guidance of your father.
Bravo thank you for the daily videos ,, thank you to boatyard workers,, this has been an amazing journey kinda like rags to riches...A very strong boat now..........👍⛵👍 😎
You guys are busting your behinds there all the while getting the best shot and angle for us to enjoy! I'm so excited to see y'all enjoy the water and well deserved sailing adventures ⛵️😊🇨🇱
No doubt when you bought the boat and found it needed a huge amount of work it must have made you both very stressed and quite upset. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining and the silver lining here is that you now know Yabå has been rebuilt/repaired to a very high standard and between you both, you will know all the systems inside out. Kudos, for doing an amazing job producing all these daily videos and the many others along the way. Now I’m sure I hear the sea calling.
You can always add a 24v alternator to your diesel engine. We have a converted 1960 passenger bus converted to an RV… It’s equipped with a 12 and 24v alternator. All the internal bus electrics are 24 volt, (starter, heater fans and such), signals and headlights all 12.
Ben, the boat looks great. you and MP have been doing an excellent job. I highly recommend that you run the bolts all the way through the hull and bolt them with a backing plate. Worst case scenario si in high weather the lag bolts can pull out, through bolts cannot. Safety first for the safety of you and MP and crew. Better safe than sorry.
Ben and MP …. I love seeing your videos every day. I have been following your videos ever since you brought Yaba out of the water. I can’t wait to see Yaba splash into the water again and reborn in all her glory …. Good luck as you reach the finish line … all the best from Ontario Canada
MP there’s no way around it. You are just adorable! Ben… your friend looks like that guy from “sailing into freedom “. I think they were both made in the same factory. Haha. Anyway. Be sure you two give yourself a little time off 😊
Love watching you guys grind it out!! You can do it! And if you miss this date, don't worry you gave it your all, and that is something to be proud of. ❤
Cool to see the sealant on the bolts. Why so dainty and cheap. Caulking's cheaper than wood and you got free labour for cleanup. Coat the mothers. If it oozes its sealed. Cheers.
MP, love the electrical work. I recently did a full upgrade on my boat using the exact same gear. Just 12v though. You guys are amazing. Love the channel.
I think the lug screws will be ok. I typically don’t like them because they can strip out, but the load on the chain plates/shrouds will be ninety degrees, so it should work. Plus after launching the hull will swell a little. You will want to check them periodically to make sure they’re still tight. Good work. You could add some thick acrylic pieces on the anchor support to protect those bolt heads from the anchor chain.
My nice to haves: Slightly bigger case to house full sized graphics card, (power too); More cooling, it’s just not enough, and the bottom fan prevents you from putting a cooling fin on one of the m.2 SSD’s. Block diagram for the PCI lanes, maybe some better doc’s on the board and systems; Move the power button and USB’s from front to rear. This is supposed to be headless, so backside only please; Maybe a rack case that can hold 2 of these?; Drivers/kernel updates for XCP-NG; Something other than a bt/wifi module, maybe a 4th m.2 ssd. I like the option but it’s a hard no in a server. All in all, a real win for miniforum. Way to knock it out of the park.
So many ppl bashing. This boat has been around decades already and been just fine. Settle down arm chair boat builders. Ben has stated already that the mast system doesn’t even require chain plates, so i doubt these are gonna fail, it is extra!!
Have you considered adding a box or enclosure in the chain locker for the chain to sit in. I think I would rather have a sacrificial enclosure that can be replaced easily

Great comment =) . at least change them with doom head screws.

Lag screws not lug
I, for one, am very impressed with MP. She is such a smart and valuable person to have as a partner. God bless you MP!
My day is complete. 😎 (Ratlines would look amazing on Yaba!) 😎🥰💕💕💕💕💕
It would be great to see a side by side picture of Yaba when she was first hauled up and when she's just about to splash. 😊
Hilarious ending Ben!! Victrunk!!!
It is a 'victree' .
Great update on the daily build. Keep.up the good work.❤
Poor MP looks so tired !! You guys are amazing I’ve been watching since day one and never get board of it
Ben you need to put carriage bolts on the anchor thing the chain will automatically grind off those bolt head's. Have a good afternoon.
@sailingsjofagel in time yes it will. And the carriage bolt head is rounded on the top and flater so the chain can travel over it without catching.
Boat ownership = The never-ending to-do list!! As always, thanks for taking us along on your journey.
A hole in the water lined with wood, metal, glass fibre etc. into which you pour money.
I agree with the comment about the destroyed nuts if the chain is running on the metal - it would be better to use countersunk heads or even rounded. Great channel !

A video from my favorite UA-cam couple. Can’t think of a better start of the day.
👏👏👏👏
Your so close after so long, great commitment seeing this big job through. Can’t wait to see splash day guy’s congratulations
She looking beautiful well done to you both ❤❤ok then and MP .
Thanks!

beautiful job on the electrical...love the chainplates.
Hey, I enjoy watching all of this series.
From work I know that the Orion will get really, really hot. It is always pretty good to make sure there are no wires or else touching it.
still with you everyday always.
Getting closer and closer to the launch! Thanks for the daily updates, much appreciated!😍😍
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
By Golly MP is becoming an Electrical Engineer, GO MP!!!
De beste stuur lui staan aan wal😅😅😅. I think you are both doing a great job. Keep it up.
Same as many comments, it's a pleasure to see the neat arrangement of the electrical projects by MP and Pop! That will make life aboard a joy as time goes by! Been there, done that!
From #1 to #29 so far and trying yo watch them all
Becoming more and more impressed with MP. She's a definite keeper.
Good morning Ben hey Ben, just an observation from somebody that’s been watching from the beginning MP seems a little tired today might be the heat or she just doesn’t feel well. Take a couple minutes off your schedule and go give her a big hug. Keep on keeping on.❤😊
This was a full production day on Yabá. Welldone! See you tomorrow !
We call them lock washer, I’m so amazed at what you guys have accomplished. I hope you have many years of enjoyment on your new home.
Under water lights super cool❤
I'm not a structural engineer But Ben I would not worry about the chainplates you've done a great job those massive lag bolts grabbing that much wood will definitely hold up that mast . Don't listen to this guy.
Can't wait to see the cool stuff you guys do to the interior. fish carvings
MP IS A ROCKSTAR IN THE ELECTRICAL DEPT ! SHE IS AMAZING !
Parabéns MD e seu pai pela parte eletrica.Vc.aprendeu bastante e também com o motor do YABA.Parabens ao casal❤❤❤❤
Having watched this journey from the beginning, I can’t wait to see Yabá floating again. How much longer do we have to wait?? What a dream ⛵️
david storm uk. iv watched every episode from day one when you bought the boat i just want to see her in the water finished sooo i ain't going to miss these day episodes am i lol keep up the good work you to, dave storm.
MP, YOU ARE A VERY CLEVER YOUNG WOMAN DOING THE ELECTRONICS SO BEAUTIFULLY. I HAVE A JOB FOR YOU IN SOUTH AFRICA ❤
It's been fun to watch yaba turn back to it once was all theses years really can't wait to see the beautiful ship sail again
Hi Ben IMPORTANT!!! please consider the weight and scouring that the anchor chain is going to put on those bolt heads in chain guard section, that chain is going to destroy the bolt heads and those 2 x nyloc nuts...really hope you read this....
They don't reply to any thing of importance very concerned for their safety once back in the water
Perhaps not ideal but the could put several axles across the channel with rollers on them? An add on rather than re engineer the mount. As an alternative they could add a slider plate above the mounting nuts

Great work on the electrical system. I would consider putting the Victron display either at the helm or at a nav station if you have one.
Saya sangat salut dan bangga kakak sangat ahli dalam merakit alat elektronik ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thank you SO SO MUCH for supporting our journey!
Love your boat! And of course you two!
LOOOOOOOKING AWESOME Guys. We are SOOO Excited to see your DREAM boat is ALMOST done. ⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
Your chain plate caulking on the rail is really smart!

Ben, those chainplates definitely aren’t going to move.
MP’s sorting out the electrical. Everyone’s going full tilt. Splash day here we come.
What a great job you all are doing!!! Also I love that music you are playing. Makes you want to go go go!! What is it? Ed C
nylon locknuts should have three threads showing above the nut for proper installation.
Keep it up guys. You can do it!! Thanks for posting.

great work on the chain plates and electrics. Bravo!
The bolt heads on the chain guide won’t last long or will damage your chain , you will need to counter sink them 😊
Awesome effort again from everyone, MP, you are your father’s daughter.
More great progress. 👍
Boa tarde MP @ Ben Feliz Sábado à Vcs tenham um ótimo dia e excelente semana
I think this is a never ending boat restoration show. I mean, that's a big boat and it needed almost everything.
Those 'Spreaders' are likely just mounts for instruments and/or lights. 🐶💨👩❤👨
You are getting so much done!!! It's exciting becausecthe day is approaching!!!❤
Smashing video 2x👍
you need to bottom paint before the water.
Looking good, keep it up, the finish line is getting closer
MP there’s no way around it. You are just adorable! Ben… your friend looks like that guy from “sailing into freedom “. I think they were both made in the same factory. Haha. Anyway. Be sure you two give yourself a little time off 😊
Another great episode you guy's... thanks for sharing!!
greetsz from friesland...max...
Yaba is really looking nice with almost everything done.
I'm playing catch up with the videos again so I don't miss anything.
Have fun you guys!
Yaba is looking so great!
Morning
GOOD MORNING!!!
Please look into getting a victron battery balancer. You need one of these because your battery bank is series in parallel. @@SailingYaba
Great tunes
Good morning
Love watching you guys grind it out!! You can do it! And if you miss this date, don't worry you gave it your all, and that is something to be proud of. ❤
Just do what is below the waterline and the engine and go for the dock!
Nice!
It's coming along youba lot more to go,but feel the excitement, and getting her back into the water
Take care c and have a wonderful day, guys
Great work guys.....another day closer to launch! 😊

While working on the anchor you could think about adding awash down hose for the anchor chain. I really think you’d enjoy having that I know MP would.
