Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 180
In this episode of our boat restoration, we drill the last holes through our hull. We almost managed to finish that task without a single mistake but... sh* happens! Besides that, our third bilge pump gets installed as well. ENJOY!

💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

WHO'S ENJOYING THESE DAILY VLOGS?! 🙋🏻♀🙋🏼♂
EEEEEEEEU
a miiiiiiiiiii
I love it!!!! Except for the fact that you are using a precision tool as a hammer. No man!!!!
Yo!!
Very cool work you guys.
If the bilge pumps have a long hose going to the through hull, you may need an 'anti-backflow' valve close to the pump to keep the water in the hose from draining back into the bilge once the pump shuts off and raising the switch enough to restart the pump, causing an endless cycle of pump operation that can drain your batteries...
Yes!! Definitely have check valves on your bilge pumps! You only want them flowing one way. Of course, bilges should be discharging above the waterline anyway so it shouldn’t ever be an issue, but I would still put check valves on them and all through holes they check valves and not interfere with functionality or cause problems with.
YABA isn't designed to 'Heel' when under sail, so check valves aren't meant to keep the sea out, just to keep water in the hoses from flowing back into the bilge when the pump stops.@@srcastic8764
Any day that begins with Yaba, Ben, and MP is a good day
My day ends here Down Under with “Yabà”
yup wake up, make me some coffee, put on Yaba ^^ (i am really sick right now, my sleep rythm is all kinds of F'd....)
I’m getting used to hanging out with you guys every day. 😂
Loving every minute. Looking forward to finding out what’s going on with your dinghy. 😎💕💕💕🥰
Love the daily episodes thank you both. Carnt wait to see yaba a float. Been a long time coming
Us too! Thank you!!
@@SailingYaba Maybe you should start numbering these daily shows ?? just saying 💪🙏👍
So good to see you guys are still so enthusiastic after these years of hard work admire you both
If you have not already, you should wire or chain a plug of appropriate size to each thru hull below the water line for emergencies. You can buy them.
And a cheap mallet to drive them in is a great idea.
I love ❤️ your work, you are getting so close to splash. Congratulations to all involved in this fantastic project 👏 😊
My heart goes out to Ben, but I see a business opportunity here.
I think we should start taking bets on whether or not he starts checking both the inside and the outside of the boat, before he cuts a hole in it. 😅
Hi guys, all these bilge pumps are great. Hope you will also carry a large portable motorised pump and plenty of hose as backup. Always remember safety first😊
Another fantastic video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊😊🇬🇧👍🏻
All of you have been working so hard ...Great work it won't be long before your in the water
You're getting SO much done!! I can't wait for splash day!!! MP is so cool (pun intended) to be working in that hot a** hold.
Tip for using holesaw:
When you do the first cut so you can see the inside edge of the hole, drill a hole right on the inside edge with a regular bit so that the sawdust from the holesaw has somewhere to go!
Continued progress!! As always, thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Thanks for watching!
Boa noite Ben e MP.😊😊😊
Geezus. It's a holy boat 😂😂😂❤
Huge props for working through the heat 😮
12 days of great work. Keep being awesome team.
I understand the need to rush whatever needs doing to allow Yaba to be launched so that she is out of the way of incoming boats to the yard, and any further work to be done while moored alongside a pontoon. So good luck with that. However, one cannot avoid noticing that the continual foot fall appears to be undoing a lot of the finishing paint and varnish work, as in some views there is either unfinished or worn surfaces. I am wondering when that will be on your agenda, so that she will be pristine before setting off on your adventures?
I LOVE the daily vlogs! I was only once able to open as first so may people are same like me waiting behind the screen. Today I went out for diner with a friend so ... LATE LATE LATE 😉
Hi Louique (unsure of spelling). Good timing-arrival-and lucky for Ben and MP you seem to like the work.
Look forward to watching each of your daily episodes until you splash Yaba,
Cheers from Vancouver, BC, Canada
UA-cam iiss a pain. I’ve been subscribed fire the last two years. In the last week I’ve had to re-subscribe 5 times!!!
Loving your videos by the way😁😁😁😁
You can definitely say that MP is the Chief Engineer on Yaba. Ben you're just the deck hand. Caillou is the captain and his mate is his first officer.
Yaba is coming along brilliantly.
Can't wait soon enough for the relaunch.
Hopefully you are going to treat all of the shipwrights to a voyage on the river as a thank you for their hard work in the rebuild.
you seem to be keeping the production quality high on these daily's - well done
It's really great to see the progress every day, so enjoyable.
Thanks Team Yàba..!!
Every morning I grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the work progress. Keep up the good work!
Love all of them you two!
❤ from 🇨🇦
I'm really enjoying the daily videos. 👍
Glad to hear it!
tu andas a mil kilometros á hora desde que os vídeos são postos diariamente 😮 chill Out man , you stressing me out 😮😮
Have watched from the start. Admired the focus to the project.
It’s weird that it’s winter here in the U.S. and I am freezing my ass off and you guys are the complete opposite about to melt. At the same time. Really makes ya think how big everything actually is and so much for you guys to explore!!!
A Brazil shipyard every day on you Tube working on youre very well known ship Yabá. Thanks for sharing the good work. Fantastic!
Thank you very much!
Really enjoying the daily video. Thanks for all your hard work!
Fantastic job, watched all your vids, love it... before drilling the hole get a wax candle, spin the drill and put candle on the sides of the hole cutter and it will help when cutting the hole ,you can do it as you drill
O M G ! #180 and still land locked phewwwww GO YABA GO
For testing electronics or for that matter anything else that requires two people it is very handy, time and energy wise to have some "walkie talkies, and the hands free headset ones are even better. Especially on a boat.
Love it every day.. Sundays too long to wait
It seems like not so long ago you were placing those planks. I bet it’s a little scary drilling through them! “Keep Going!”
Otimo video todas as bimbas funcionando.😊😊😊😊😊
MP working harder than anyone tbh ... much love
Practicing with the LEGOs really pays off!😁👍👍
I have to say that I think Empe’s (please forgive the spelling!) father is so very sweet, patient, and proud of her! I truly enjoy watching Emperor and her father working on the wiring! Again the crew of workers (and friends) are awesome, and Yaba is really looking great!
MP - So much better music selection for this video. Good shots, also.
Glad you liked it! Ben chose them 😅
I do. Can't wait to see her float.
The excitement is growing with every completed task ! You've shown what hard work and a dream can do , from the sad sinking boat to a solid ship . Yaba will be a great boat to live aboard while sailing to many adventures .
I LOVE IT!!! Great work & music
I hope you remember to install one way valves on the bilgepump hoses. If you get heavy, listing, rolling, and they are close to the waterline, you could take in water there 😊
Many people have commented on this problem , but as yet there have been no answers
I don't understand this persistence, to my knowledge all current bilge pumps have an integrated non-return valve.
Don’t forget to get check valves for your through hulls. So what goes out stays out.
Bravo, I'm getting a bit spoiled here, thank you so much,, I know it's hard,, boat work/filming.. Shout out to the boatyard workers. true craftsmen.. This has been a remarkable series, Yaba is back 👍⛵👍
Ben, you and MP have learned some great shipwright skills from the crew that have helped you along the way. Rather than specialized tools you’ve learned to use what is at hand to get the job done. Amazing build!
Thanks for that!
Another terrific day for you all. Loads of hard work despite the heat. I don't know how you keep going !. Keep well and safe. James.
you guys still having enough sleep? good job! with the daily vlogs ❤
I love the daily episodes!! So much is getting done!!! ❤
Through hulls are too close to the waterline when your healing over you will get water in.
About working in the shade, the shadow side of the boat.
You know that “posh” is an abbreviation?
It stands for: Port Out Starboard Home.
It refers to what side your cabin should be sailing to and from India.
Important to put anti siphon bends on your bilge pump discharge lines. Very important!
Must be challenging but enjoying the launch countdown/up daily blogs. Tough working in all that heat and humidity. Brief spell of relief when it rains or is overcast or work on the opposite side of the boat.
Great to celebrate victories and milestones with the yard crew.
You guys are truly amazing!
MP and Ben, thank you for all the great videos. MP your father is a very good man to give of himself for you and Ben shows His love and commitment to the both of you and to your futures. it also reveals the secret of what a great person you are MP. I wonder if Yabba will say aahhh when she hits the water, it is hot there, right! Keep on keeping on❤
Thanks!
You all are kicking butt. Keep up the great work.
Thanks guys😊
Dont forget 1 way check valves for your thru holes and piping...including fuel line fill....
That was a bussy work day lot's of things done.... and a perfect ending of a hard days work
verry nice👍👍👍👌💪
greetsz from friesland...max
I follow you both from the time you appearance in Odd Life, so that is a time ago. I’m looking forward for launching Yabá. Hope you wil ready for it. Keep on the good job
I never did see how/why it happened that you decided on this style of boat, as opposed to a traditional fiberglass (read low maintenance) sailboat. Not saying it won't look good in the water, but, man-oh-man, so much maintenance with all the wood. Keep up the good work. Where did u find all those wonderful skilled workers?
Parabéns pelo bom trabalho!
Um abraço carinhoso de Portugal!
So enjoy your Videos - sooooooo good
Well just to say in reply to your question. Yes but it is because I want to see Yaba back in the water. Daily for a limited time for an outcome seems good. And timely being this time of year, heading into the year ahead, wahoo, let’s go!
Love the Daily news LOL God Bless Y'all Ben and MP
May I suggest that you test all those 40amp resettable circuit breakers to make sure they actually trip. (the black ones)). I found one this week that did not actually trip.
MP, You and your dad are making elect, system so professional and in order, beautiful work. And Ben has put about a thousand if not more in through holes For brass fittings installing 4 major pumps. so nice
Happy 12th day guys it has been awesome following you along on this 3-year Journey
Another great episode for the Yaba family.
what a great Rodizio barbecue at the end , bilge pumps done one more victory closer to launch day!
great job guys!
I think the daily episodes are awesome !!!!!... verry adictive😊😉
greetsz from friesland...max💛💙
I am loving the daily videos ! Can’t wait to see this boat launched !, the suspense is killing me because I don’t know how much more needs to done. It is getting close to beer 30 ! Way closer than in the beginning !!! You guys rock !!!
Bro, you are drilling countless through holes. I've never seen a boat with so many through holes 😮
I am. ❤ An Aussie from Down Under.
All roads leading to a successful launch day for Yaba... yayyy
Great video thank you! I have found that holding a small scrap of wood up against the hole saw teeth while it's turning cleans the sawdust out quite well.
Another great video well done the Yaba team 😊😊😊
Eu estou curtindo muito, não vejo a hora do lançamento, feliz por vocês, sou de São Paulo
Muito obrigado!!
brilliant channel ))
Hi,I definitely am enjoying the extra viewing, cheers ,Roly🇬🇧.
Looking good guys!! See ya tomorrow. Your doing great!!!
Ben and MP are working really hard. They are SO lucky to have MP's dad wiring the boat... and teaching her skills as his apprentice she never knew she needed until now. Ben has learned a "boat load" of skills, too... some by watching others and some by his unique mixture of common sense and problem solving, hands-on abilities. Soon, Yaba will be back at sea, and Ben and MP will show us their skills as sailors!
This boat rebuild has been a life changing experience for both of them.
Beleza! Yabá is almost floating!
Great work and channel .Great team of shipwrights and. You are a great team .
Thank you very much!
I wish you had shown the bbq and the people enjoying it.
Great job the the electrical work. Very clean wiring!!
I didn’t realize y’all were going to have so many holes in the hull. But is a very large yacht. It’s going to be a good home.
That's a strong well built beautiful boat. But are you going to change that horrible engine control lever for a nice traditional one. It looks like an outboard motor control
Great update 2x👍 see you tomorrow.
Hello! From Los Angeles, CA. I have caught all of your daily videos and enjoy them. I know the feeling of working in the middle of the Brazilian Summer. In particular, Maria Paula and her father work in that enclosed area.
I am looking forward to the final day. Your luxurious yacht turns out to be gorgeous with a white color. Good choice.
The first thing I do each morning is watch the daily video.
MP your're so fucking awesome doing that electric boat work, with a little help from your dad.
I enjoy the daily vlogs, and thank you.
Glad you like them!
I'm supper happy with this project. Thank you for making my day every day.
