The fact you have to spell out these most basic of moral principles, as if you were teaching Martians, only highlights the moral depravity of Craig and his ilk.
@@jackdispennett744 I dont doubt that CD is a part of the psychological process at work, but whatever is going on in their head, the end result is moral depravity: "a voluntary violation of morals, values, customs, or manners leading to an aberrant style of personality"
But what if the culture as a whole is thoroughly corrupt? How should God deal with it then? What Randal a lot of modern individualists have a hard time recognizing is that a given society as a whole can incur a collective guilt, and that practically the only way to get rid of the corruption is to get rid of the society. This was especially true of the Canaanites, who posed a threat to the integrity of Israel's own religion. "For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants." (Lev. 18:25). And what will God do about modern America? Read what Kamela Harris has to say about abortion and the LGBTQI+ agenda on her campaign website and draw your own conclusion.
Good points, but why is it you stop there? The horrendous actions, words and intentions of Donald Trump should be an affront to every person that is a follower of Jesus Christ.
This is why we have separation of church and state . I never even heard of any of this , until after 9-11 . Is this the making of an American "Taliban " ?!?
Lol, the last line of the 'bestiality' text also says '[She conceiv]es and bears a boy.' You either have to accept then that hybrids were possible by having sex with a cow or indeed that this a certain kind of literature. Plus Baal was himself a bull isn't it? Makes perfect sense actually as a literature text.
This reasoning is directly applicable to God sending people to Hell. The difference is that as long as you believe in that doctrine, you can’t apply the same conclusion as at the end of this video. For a long time now, I’ve wondered why the New Testament is exempt from the criticisms of the Old Testament.
The genocide passages just show how different the cultures were in the time of the writings of the Bible. We know now how bad genocide is now but at the time it was OK. We can look at homosexual acts today. We as a society feel different about these things now but back then it was OK. The OT prophets maybe did not feel like they could argue with God to that extent. Just like you could not argue with your father about any and all subjects you like perhaps they did not feel like they could challenge God to that extent?
@@BibleTalk419 The Bible-the prophets-also describes child sacrifice as something Yahweh commanded them to do. As punishment rather than ideal worship, yes; but it was still Yahweh who told them, and the best the prophets could do was renegotiate and recontextualise this fact, but not deny it.
On Clay Jones's article: I'm not saying it's a good article really. But all of the sins he listed are also listed by Leviticus 18. This is god-breathed evidence that the Canaanites committed these sins. Any archaeological evidence or other historical sources is a nice illustration but unneeded. Now I don't think their *sin on its own* is what cause God to tell the Israelites to drive them out, as I mentioned in the previous video. It's about its context within the bible's story of salvation. Therefore there is no modern-day application on nations like America, even if Clay Jones is right.
Archeological evidence and historical evidence is needed because the men who wrote the bible could have lied or wrote down political propaganda. You cannot assert that the evidence is god breathed when the said evidence is the one being questioned.

I notice that you prefer the euphemistic "drive them out" to the more accurate "commit total genocide", which is what the Bible actually describes. If you're going to defend something as morally reprehensible as genocide on the basis that your religion is for it, at least have the guts to admit it.
Because I don't think it was total genocide, they were using hyperbole. Randal uses the word 'ethnic cleansing' in this video, I think that is accurate. Also driving out the Canaanites is biblical language.
So you’re pre-supposing scripture is from a god to defend a different scripture laying out god’s commands to genocide the Canaanites? The entire problem here is an internal critique of the Bible and how Christians label it as the word of a morally perfect being

A better explanation than moral depravity is cognitive dissonance with respect to their sacred texts.

Don’t be silly. Craig defends himself well on the debate stage. That’s where it matters.

The ancient Israelites also practiced child sacrifice.
but it's important to note that the Bible (the prophets of Israel) condemned them for this wrong action like the pagans did
