Thats what I like about you Rich. Always thinking about a new way or new tool to get a job done. I've been a mechanic for 30 years and enjoy watching you work. Thanks.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart including naming the bulbs "heater control bulbs" and #74. While replacing the shift cable I noticed both heat and AC bulbs were hanging down and I couldn't see where to install them. Also, good tip on the hose for removal. Strange fun fact: I bought my 1997 SW2 brand new in CT in 1996 as a factory order then moved to San Diego in 2000 where I continue to drive the car. In all those years the ONLY bulb to ever need replacing was the dome light (would get forgotten in the ON vs auto position for a week or more many times over the years. The head lights are dim but still work.

Richpin, do you know the part number for the heater/AC control bulbs in a first gen? The ones that are up on a plastic pedestal? They are different in a first gen than they are in this second Gen example.

My bulb was in there so tight I had to cut the hose and use several ends, one after the other, since they weakened from my wiggling them around. Killer tight bulb. Next time I may rough up the bulb and drill a quarter inch or so hole in the end of a dowel and epoxy the bulb into it, wait till hardens, pull out and discard. The guy at the automotive parts store tried to pull it out with fingers and just concluded that it is all one piece! Then I saw this video and decided to try using the tubing. I got it at ACE hardware store, the guy said here, just take some, no charge. :)

Now that did look nice to do :-)), although i did think someone had fitted an old mini music center in the car lol :->
I would imagine a bit of sellotape wrapped round the bulb would work for removal if you didnt have a nice bit of tube.
Sellotape can be a pig to remove, so it should work.

    Hey Rich -
Yeah those tiny bulbs can be stubborn to get out with out breaking the bulb into tinny pieces .

Your videos have been very helpful. Using them I've replaced my starter, radiator, and front brakes. Do you know what kind of bulb the A/C and Air Recirculation buttons use?

+William Koenig I believe those bulbs are SW 21023369

“Bulb air conditioning (A/C) Control for Saturn” #21023369. Small stuff like this could be added to a list for your next Junk Yard visit. Prices at my local Chevy Dealer are crazy high - $5 +tx for the tiny retainer clip at the very end of the manual shift cable each! Also, when lost a bolt from my brake caliper my local Chevy dealer said they are only sold in pairs and two pairs was the min order which would have cost $20 for 4 bolts that would have to be ordered. I went to my local JY and got 2 (just in case) and the entire order was $15.

Are all the bulbs you showed the same? The only light that works on my 98 sl is the re-circulation button. Thanks I've learned a lot of watching your videos.

Good afternoon, Rich. I have an issue with my 1995 Saturn sl1 heater. The heater was working perfectly fine until today. I turn the heater on 1 2 3 but it doesn't turn on, then i turn the knob to the 4th, that's when the heater starts to work again. What could it be?

@Richpin06aWhat kind of lightbulbs are you using in this video? I was hoping to do an LED conversion in my 1998 Saturn SL2 and my 2001 Saturn SC2

Any ideas on what the replacement bulb number would be? I couldn't find any numbers on mine when I removed them

Those bulbs look similar to licence plate illumination bulbs. In fact, that would be a good richpin video for the future. It's the law, I think, to have your licence plate illuminated at night while you're driving.

+100,000 Mile Tune-Up I think the 2 plate bulbs are 194/168 also known as t10 bulbs and there also 5 of these bulbs to light up the gauges aswell as a bulb for each warning indicator light, plus 2 T5 or #74 for top 2 gauge lights

If the tubing slips off of the bulb, try cleaning the bulb with some hand sanitizer (alcohol) on a Q-tip. Also, once the tubing is solidly on the bulb, double the tubing over (like trying to stop a hose from flowing) and grab the doubled over tubing with pliers. The pinched tubing makes a vacuum lock on the bulb so you can pull it out without letting go of the bulb. .

And a hot glue gun could be used. A small amount of dielectric or "bulb grease" would help the reinstall.

Hi Richpin! I had success with the right side bulb. the left side bulb has broken. I'm trying to figure out what to do. I've been contemplating taking a tiny drill bit and hollowing out the socket of broken glass. I'm also wondering if i could replace the socket, but i can't come up with the correct search terms for the socket (with lead wires) Any info or advice would be a great help. it's a 1999 saturn SL1, and the sockets are exactly like yours in this video

too different from my gen 3 which needs bulbs. the unit is full of cables and pulleys, its a little too intimidating without a video to tackle..
