  • Hey guys! Ross here back for another Daily Shave! Today’s shave was a change-up in that I reviewed hardware in the form of the Simpson Duke 1 shaving brush featuring Best Badger hair.
Simpson has long been renowned as one of the best brushmakers in wet shaving and it is not hard to see why. Celebrating their 100th anniversary of producing world class brushes, they’ve continued to offer some of the best quality hardware the hobby has to offer. From various handle shapes to a plethora of knot options, Simpson has really provided everything you could look for in a brush tailored to your wants and needs.
The Duke 1 offering in Best Badger, I find, is a great travel brush option. At 85mm in total height, you can easily fit one of these brushes in a small travel container or even something as small as an empty pill bottle. The 19mm knot has a medium amount of density to it with very minimal (if any) scritch. It is quite a soft brush and takes little time to soak and be prepped for a shave. Whether you really like to work up the lather or utilize painting strokes to apply the lather, this has you covered for both avenues depending on your preference. This is a great brush that I couldn’t recommend more.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop them below and I’ll get to as many as I can. Happy Shaves!

They can be a bit pricey. You're certainly right about that.

I expected the first pass to do more damage. Looks like it could have got closer. Beautiful razor though.

The best Shave Brush on the market today is my Simpson Trafalgar's T-3, better then boar cheaper in the long run, it is 29mm. i mic it' it's like buying a $275 Badger hair brush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, NO SOAKING, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a Badger Hair or boar can, cheap to buy, I have owned it for 5 Years with no hair loss with no problems wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas

Good shave bro! Do you hone that razor yourself? Im just starting to learn how to hone..its such a fun journey. There is no better feeling then getting that perfect hone and blowing your own mind when you shave with it ...lol. Being constant in that process is what i strive to achieve.

I have not gotten into honing yet. I'm sure it will come soon enough though! Thanks for watching!

Simpson says to use the brush as a paint brush with to and fro motions. Circular motions like this damages the brush.

There is something about using wet animal hair on my face. Can't do it.
