Being a cashier at a grocery store is the easiest job I’ve ever worked. I say this as someone who has extreme social anxiety. Sounds kinda opposite huh! Well to be honest I’m quite a nervous wreck the first few days and within a week or two I’m doing just fine. Out of all the jobs I’ve worked I’d say cashiering is the most tolerable job I’ve tried so far with my limited options of course. It ain’t so bad! You have a few bad apples when it comes to dealing with customers but most people are decent. I always try to see the best in people. You just can’t let the bad ones bring you down. Whatever they say or do they that is negative should be shaken off the moment they leave. I have social anxiety but I love to talk once I’m comfortable with people. I believe exposure therapy works. And what better way to do that than by working as a cashier at a busy grocery store?! I get paid to heal my mental health. I do realize it’s minimum wage but I’m fine with that because I share my rent with other people. I don’t live alone but I live comfortably with the people I do live with. And I don’t try to keep up with the clothing trends or anything materialistic really so money is never a problem for me because I enjoy the simple things in life anyway. Give me a couple of beers, and some good friends to laugh and hang with and I’m good.
Thank you! I was looking for a job and I do have some sort of social anxiety and I was hoping that if I start I’ll get over it from exposing myself to other people. And still get paid. But thank you so much! I needed this.
+Salem Mileena I just had orientation yesterday and I have a 4-hour shift in a couple of days. I stayed on the registered with a veteran for about 30 minutes then I got off. I know the basics but I'm nervous af.
+Yamally Beautyme It was pretty good, actually. I now work at the fitting room...and I actually don't mind getting on the registers when the front end needs help. Been working there for almost 3 months now.
I just started at Walmart and no one is training me there and my manager just keeps yelling at me like I should know everything. This is my first job I was just trying to know how the machine works and how to deal with other options for paying. This really didn’t help me it’s made me more anxious.
There's supposed to be a training mode on the registers but I don't know if any stores actually use it. They should have you shadowing another cashier and reviewing the laminated training cards. Bring a small note pad when you're shadowing someone and make notes about the kjey sequences.
I was CSM. I'm so sorry u got yelled at. Train your CSM. Come to your shift about five minutes before your shift when u clock in. Talk to your CSM that this job is important to u and you want to do your best. Take notes when you do your cbl's on cashier training. Csm are to assist and train u find one that is nice and calm. Get some 3 x5 cards and a plastic holder. Go online and Google upc for fruits and vegetables. Write down the UPC number for each fruit or vegetables on each card. On the back write the name. I did this to remember. It works when I was a cashier. Make sure you print out the codes for what you need when u get to work to get more money, stamps etc. If u have the new system there is a chart on the screen u can use for fruits and veggies but it slows u down when scanning. Memorize is better. Just memorize the ones u use often ie 4011 banana etc. If u have any more questions just ask. Paula at moongazer43@yahoo.com. happy to help🤩
Same here so i quit after 3 weeks (They don't wanna show us but they expect all from us wtf) They lost a good worker tho.. And the coworkers are asses too.
As a person who worked at Giant Eagle for a decent amount of time...99% of the time will be you pressing the same 4-5 buttons over and over for every customer...not hard at all so don’t worry (I was before my first day but it’s so easy)
oh, this is actually pretty good guys. everything she said is actually very important. this is cashier training, but I was looking for just the specific cash register operation. I think this is for specifically a deli cashier
Omg this is a lot to remember who else wishes people came out with a technology that just spits out the change for you without you having to do anything. That would make everything so much easier 😩
I just started as a cashier. It was only my third day, and they expect me to do this job by myself. Is this normal? I feel really overwhelmed since there's so many different payment types such as WIC, god do I hate those vouchers lol
+Deep Poetic Society I just starded as a trainee right now at a local grocery store and they wanted me to try out work the counter. I expected to have a supervisor alongside at least a few days or so but I got to learn much of it all by myself and when I messed up I had to call for help, which resulted in a few annoyed customers. I mean I guess it's a good way for me to learn and to get into the job quickly but it doesn't feel right to be the reason that so many customers get annoyed whenever I do something wrong. I'm also a bit overwhelmed by all the hundreds of PLU codes, but I'll get used to the most usual ones eventually I guess.
+CS:GO Hub i am starting in two days and there have give me a training paper to look at,trying to rememberize everything on that paper along with looking at some video. i suffer from real bad social anxiety so hopfully this will make me calm before i start
Cameron Hall Fortunately, it does that for you. However, there were a few times when the system would glitch and not show you what to give back. These instances are rare, but they do happen. Just try to remember what the customer gave you and be aware that some customers will try their damnest to short change you, so be alert.
I know this is 2 years old but lmao. When I go and redeem my wic checks, I always separate each of the foods that go with the checks. The cashier girl was so happy I did that. Guess many don't

I think the one that made the video is still going through one or the other, maybe both from the sound of it. I wondered if she was slow or just couldn't read.
This is very helpful for this company, mind you all, this person was able to record without customers demanding our services!!! And yes, we are arrogant.
This is Hawaii. There are buttons for Lei and Orchid. A reminder note said "Mahalo" . I think that means Marijuana.. The girls voice is so soothing and sweet...... This is very old because of the prices. .. Now the employee meal is $50.00 with discount.
I have a question I want to work as a cashier but am terrible at counting coins. Does the machine tell you exactly how many coins you need, like would it say you need 1 dollar with whatever cents which would be 2 pennies one nickel etc.
Which position, in addition to the manager / supervisor and front-end assistant, is responsible for providing money for change, makes product cancellations, refunds of purchases, returns of registered values by mistake, withdraws money from the cash register to the safe, performs substitutions between cashiers, opening, closing and checking cash registers. When the customer has a question about the price, validity and quality of a product and goes to the sales area to check the correct information? In general it provides assistance to cashiers. What if each supermarket has its treasury and what is the name of the position responsible for this sector?
I am working in a grocery stores . My training was 4 days mainly doing bagging and scan the products. the 5th day I was alone doing all the tuff i did not know: like how to override lotto tickets, gifts cards, avoiding items , greetings cards , price check etc.. I am ovewelmwd if i call my supervisor she do it for me and saY; Do not worry this sit his like this , press the bottom and that it etc, but I seldom have the option to practice or somebody teach me. My co worker are annoying if I ask them: they assume if they shout ove their till what to do and I will be fine. Some of them yell at me at front of the customer. They cannot handle stress. I wonder if I can find a tutorial how to train yourself in a grocery store in Canada. I need the job unless until summer. Does anybody have a suggestions? Any help will be appreciate it. thanks.
