    IN THIS VIDEO
    Dr. Neal Guymon discusses dry eyes and one of the biggest contributors to dry eyes, meibomian gland dysfunction (mgd) and blepharitis. Dr. EyeGuy talks about the four best advanced dry eye treatments at home that can help get rid of dry eyes. Dry Eyes can be very overwhelming and sometimes complicated to treat. Dr. EyeGuy has put together his top four Dry Eye home remedies and treatments that can work for most people. High Quality Omega-3 supplements or fish oil is very important. Keeping eyelids clean is also very important. Blepharitis can cause serious inflammation to the meibomian glands, which leads to dry eyes. Using a hypochlorous acid solution will help control bacteria on the eyelids. Heat Masks, warm compresses, and eyelid massages help keep the meibomian glands functioning.

    Thank you Dr. for sharing this information. I have been experiencing the lightly smudged eyesight in my right eyefor about a month, sometimes better than others and definitely light sensitive and have just purchased the recommended eyedrops, omega gels and the eyelid cleansing spray; so, hopefully i'm on the right track. I"ve never experienced this before. Thank you again!

    You are so spot on and very grateful to you education and help. This has been the worst of my dry eyes and I was getting really scared thinking it was my eyes itself. Never thought it would be my eye lids until I was doing the research for any kind of help. Last night I saw your first video I have looked at. I did the warm compresses, light massage and hard blinking. That alone made a huge difference. I was told that using eye drops for tears was damaging to the eyes. I have been using Refresh Tears Lubricant Eye Drops that was recommended by my eye doctor few years back. It does help but I saw a new one I never saw that you recommended. I have a hard time taking pills so I am eating foods with Omega in it and hopefully it will help. Thank you so much for your video's because they have put my mind at ease and working on better health.

    I have a cornea condition that causes severe dry eyes. I am also alergic to most of the preservatives they use to make most products that are supposed to help. After countless doctors & all their recommendations that actually made things worse, I decided to try my own idea & use the same thing I use for any topical application to the body...cold pressed virgin coconut oil. Just put a dab in the bottom eyelid and blink several times to spead it around. Not only does it work wonders, but is extremely affordable. I will never use anything else. Last trip for followup the doctor asked if the "Cequa" was working. I told him my insurance would't cover the $600 and told him what I've been using. At first he was appauled, but after seeing how much of an improvement I have, he actually told me to keep using it. You'll never hear a doctor tell you that!

      Btw...tried mct in a dropper, but it doesn't have the same hydrating capabilities. Just carry a small glass container or jar (kind of like what tiger balm comes in) of coconut oil in a baggie so you always have it with you. You will be amazed!

    1. do skin booster injections around the eyes, which contain amino acids and hyaluronic acid, affect the meibomian glands and if so in which way?
    2. do patches for the under eye that conceal the surface of the skin to bring moisture to the surface affect the meibomian glands and if so in which way?
    3. do you think PRP injections around the eye area can help with meibomian glands disfunction?

Bruder mask + eyelid massage 2x a day, Omega 3 + GLA Omega 6 supplementation, a serious preservative-free gel drop (Celluvisc), and improving the air quality by reducing PM2.5 knocked it out for me and got my eyes in good enough shape for SMILE. @@DanSmith-pr1zt Nordic Naturals for the omega 3...I still take it to this day. However, I also eat a lot of seafood, so it's hard for me to quantify which might be helping more. For GLA, I was using Now Foods. I have since discontinued this. Half a year after getting SMILE, my MGD has improved substantially because I am not wearing contacts every day. I continue to take the omega 3 for heart health (even though there is some question as to if such supplementation has benefit in that area.) I also still do the Bruder mask and scrub, but once every few days instead of twice a day. I also did not note in the original comment that I take a high dose of turmeric. I started taking it for arthritis, as it is a potent anti-inflammatory. However, I think it likely played a role in my SMILE recovery and MGD management because it how great it is at knocking down inflammation, and both refractive eye surgery recovery and MGD entail inflammation.

    Thanks Dr, very useful info👍 I like that you recommended an electric heat mask. I’ve been looking for one, and there are so many online(very hard to know which would be safe/effective), and I don’t own a microwave, also, electric ones seem great for work and travel.
    However, do you have a more affordable recommendation/alternative to Electric Heated Eye Masks?😬It would be really appreciated if you had a more affordable electric mask to share with us🙏Or if you could tell us if any available on the market would be good for dry eyes or what to look for.
    Also, useful to know it’s important to use artificial tears in the morning. I assumed eyes should be more moist since they were closed for hours; so good to know that it’s good to start of the day using them since I always waite a while after I start my day/begin working on the computer(trying not to abuse their use).

    Dr. Guymon, great video! You’re doing a wonderful service. As one OD to another, may I suggest that you consider the underlying cause of dry eye? I believe dry eye is part of a syndrome of inflammatory metabolic disease. Omega 3 helps greatly with inflammation, but if you reverse insulin resistance, you will see massive improvement in patient success. Unless we correct the cause, we are just managing symptoms.

    Hi my friend. Can you make a video on wearing contacts for mono vision? What to expect and not to expect, etc? I was told not to expect perfection wearing these lenses and would love to hear your take on it and some tips. 😊

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  3 роки тому +1

      Multifocal and Monovision contacts are on my list of videos to make. 😊 But I can give you a quick condensed version. It's almost a 50/50 for my patients. 50% of my patients love monovision, 50% of them hate it. It depends on how well your brain can adapt to switching eyes for their focus (one eye for distance, one eye for near). It also affects your depth perception a little bit. It's hard to know which patients will love it or not. Usually I have patients start low, with a low monovision difference (meaning their near eye has a low add power). Then if it looks promising, then we bump it up to where we need it. I would expect it to be a little weird visually for a few days, but the brain will adapt if you are in the 50% that like it. You are right, don't expect perfection, but I have a lot of patients seeing better in monovision than they did with multifocal contacts.

    • @GigLifewithLexi
      @GigLifewithLexi 3 роки тому +1

      @@DrEyeGuy Wow, that's interesting. So far I really like them but I'm only on week two. She also bumped me up in the near-eye, as I was putting glasses on over my contacts to read. So now I try for a week and see how it goes. It's still not like wearing reading glasses though, as the strength is only for one eye. Do you think I should ask her to bump me up more? I went from 1.75 to 2.50 in that lens.

    • @GigLifewithLexi
      @GigLifewithLexi 3 роки тому +1

      Also, I feel like my eyes are always watery when I wear them. Is this normal for first-time contact lens wearers? Will look forward to you making a video. :)

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  3 роки тому +1

      @@GigLifewithLexi You can always try to bump it up. It's a fine balance for sure. The higher power you go, the closer your focal point will get as well... meaning you might have to hold things closer if it gets too high. Also you will have a bigger difference in power between the two eyes, so it will depend on what the brain can adapt to.

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  3 роки тому +1

      @@GigLifewithLexi Yeah, it can be normal. The watering could be from the slight foreign body sensation from having the contacts in your eyes. Your eyes will try and flush them out. Or it could be a sign that your eyes are more dry, and your eyes are kicking in their protective mechanism to water and compensate. If they continue to water, then it might be worth it to try a different brand of contacts if possible.

    Eyedrops is supposed to give instant relieve/result for blurry due to dry eye, am I right? But using it will cause blurry due to the sticky ingredient (same goes to natural tears when we cry). If we wait long enough, then our vision will be less blurry but that also means the eyedrops has become lesser/dismiss. So what's the point? Or am I the only one who get blurry vision after putting eyedrops?

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  3 роки тому

      Depends on the person and their tear film. Some people get immediate clear vision and better feeling eyes. Also, if you have dry patches, punctate erosions on the surface of the eyes, that can cause blurry vision. Using eye drops can help heal those dry patches, or prevent them from happening, and clear your vision.

      I had a lipiflow treatment as well. To be honest, I didn't feel any improve either. I am taking restasis to, which only after 6 months of using, it seems to be good results. But, there are good and bad days. I am going to try to change my diet to gluten and dairy free. Warm compresses help me a lot.
