Inspired by you, I started my own solo Mork Borg campaign. So far, I am enjoying it tremendously. Thank you for leading me to this wonderful experience:)
I've started my own solo campaign inspired by this series and absolutely fell in love with the game. During my character creation, the story sort of presented itself. My name is Belsum Kratar and I'm pretty good at protecting myself. But I can't hurt a fly, and I'm the absolute worst at ranged weapons. What has he started with? A crossbow. This poor pacifist fool is forced to leave his village due to the growing goblin problem... His first goal... Find a new weapon. Local legends speak of an Occult treasure buried deep in the swamps to the east. Perhaps that is his solution?
I love how the abstract nature of OSR rpgs when generating surroundings for example lends itself to interpretation. When you rolled a "burning swamp" and described what might be an acidic bog with the smell of aggressive chemicals in the air, in my head i imagined dead and dreary mire with a marsh fire in the distance, the strong cold winds blowing the fumes of rot into my direction. (basically southern Louisiana in the winter when some dickheads set off a fire to chase animals out of the bayous)
Love it!! I absolutely agree that having a structured gameplay cycle in a Solo RPG is great for us boardgamers and is probably the best way to start Solo RPG. Also love the use of Dungeon Degenerate Board, probably the best map to use for a Mork Borg solo RPG :)
I just got Mork Borg and both of these supplements in PDF form and am itching to playing my own solo game with them. Your videos are tremendously helpful in seeing an example of what this play can look like, thank you so much!
Really cool! At the end of this Mork Borg adventure you could go deposit the Beast head next to Bruttelberg and start a regular game of Dungeons Degenerates! The map is really a neat idea to give you some hint about what you encounter! Really curious about the social dynamic in Pigskin Port! Thx for the vid!
In a similar vein to most of the comments here, this video inspired me to pick up the necessary supplements for Mörk Borg and plan to run a solo or co-op campaign as soon as I get the material in. I love year-long planned out campaigns of the modern TTRPG style, but I'm excited for the nostalgic feel of rolling on so many tables and just seeing what chaos ensues.
another great vid! SD is one of the best "osr" zines to come out recently (imo) and I know its author is pumped to see it getting some play! congrats Daniel on making a bunch of folks jealous they don't have the D Degenerates game!
When you rolled for going off the road you read the result off of the night camp event chart... So instead of getting robbed by a wolf, It looks like you were suppose to find a village of cannibals. Oh well.
I love how you implemented literally two things that I like the most :D Btw, I have a question, do you remember the manufacturer of the dice you are using? (the yellow and the magenta one) I do plan on getting myself couple of sets to fit my Dungeon Degenerates and Mork Borg themes.
@@TheDungeonDive Thanks for the reply! I will have to do some digging to find something similar tho. :D Great content! I am a recent sub, and all I can say is that I feel sorry for not discovering your channel earlier. Keep up the great work!
This is a great system. I also think you would really enjoy Harper's Quest 2. It is it's own self contained solo dungeon crawl / questing game with oracles and dungeon as well as quest genetation. But it can be applied to running pre-made adventures solo. It provides conversion suggestions and the like. And I know you like a game that is rules light, this is only 27 pages. I fell in love with it in one evening! I would really like to hear your thoughts. Hopefully it can sneak into your schedule!
So, I really enjoyed this and am tempted to give it a go. Something i'm struggling to get my head around though, if you're playing this by yourself, and not recording it for a video, are you still talking yourself through the story? Are you writing it down instead? Some other method?! I have next to zero experience with tabletop RPGs so apologise if that's a stupid question!
Not a stupid question at all! It all depends on what I’m trying to achieve. Usually I would at least do some light journaling for a solo RPG. You can keep a note book and add to it from game to game. When I’m playing I usually do talk out loud to myself. :)
Loved the video. I just recently purchased Mork Borg and wanted to watch a few videos on how to run it before starting a campaign. My question would be, where did you get the map? Would love to have a visual reference like that for when I start. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.
Having never really played D&D, watching you do this is very intriguing but also intimidating. Would you say you are able to do this all from prior experience or can a new solo player learn to do this just from reading Mork Borg, Feritory and Solitary Defilement? Does it have a steep learning curve for an absolute beginner?
I was thinking about that. MB is pretty unique and SD is tailored for it. However, it could probably work for an OSR style game with a bit of work. For other games, I would use Scarlet Heroes.
SD takes some ideas from Ironsworn, I think you can easily refer to that in order to create a custom experience. If you add the expansion Delve, you also get the 'dungeon crawl' experience covered as well
My only apprehension with solo play as it feels like constant book keeping and looking things up. There's no natural breaks and it feels like I'm following a list of instructions in the form of if/then statements.
@TheDungeonDive I've played solo wargames with minis to interact with in between decisions but all mind theater is intimidating but I guess the appeal is a complex choose your own adventure.
It's not really a CYOA though, because I'm making it all up as I go! There aren't really any A/B choices. :) It's more playing make believe with rules to handle conflict.
Luckily there are games for everyone these days! Sometimes I like playing a cute little rabbit on a quaint quest for some carrots, and other times....this! :)

Right on! Glad you are enjoying it.
Tremendous is such an underused word!
I know you did this 2 years ago but thanks so much. This session really showed me the value of Feretory. So I picked it up!! I am a solo player.
Glad it was helpful!

This was my kick in the butt to grab my version of Sölitary Defilement and start my Solo campaign. Thanks for that. It’s awesome!
I really need to carve out some time and get back to playing MB.
@@TheDungeonDive indeed. The simplicity and the whole setting is something I adore!
Yep. And all the great content for it. It’s a never ending world of stuff. I love it.
Holy crap I always knew mork Borg was wild but finding that puppy was a whole other level 😂
That was a fun touch.
@@TheDungeonDive would have been more concerning if you character slept no problems after that 😀

In solo RPGs the only thing that matters is fun. Did I have fun with this? Yep. Success!
I’m going to give this a try using the three boards from “A Touch of Evil” as my map.
Those would be perfect!
This looks absolutely amazing and fun...love the mood and descriptions.

Those dice I got in a couple of cheap card games years ago.

Thank you! Appreciate it. I also want more brightly colored dice. :) Need to get some sets of bright florescent dice.
Finally picked up MB and some supplements to try out solo. Loving it so far and can't wait to try out Cy_Borg
Another rpg very good for the solo/coop mode is old school essentials.
I just ordered the first box set with the latest KS.
@@TheDungeonDive bravo!
Thanks!

Maybe I missed it. Did the map come with one of the books? It looks really awesome.
It’s from Dungeon Degenerates.

The map is from the Dungeon Degenerates board game.
@@TheDungeonDive Awesome. Thank you. Will look that up so I can get a copy. Much appreciated.
@@TheDungeonDive I had another question. If the map is for another board game how can it be used for Mork Borg?
I use stuff from different games in other games all the time! You just use it however you want to.
This is epic
These dices are GORGEOUS where I get ones like these??
Where do I acquire dice like that, the yellow and pink dice with black number? They are so Mork Borg.
Pretty sure I got those on Amazon.

I think Scarlet Heroes might be a better introduction. Hard for me to say for someone who has zero experience with RPGs.
Helig means Holy in Swedish.
Wermet sounds very Germanic, so it might be an archaic name. (It is at least not a name I've heard.)
Thanks for that insight! :)
Sorry i am new to physical solo rpgs, why do you role 2 d20's instead of 1 when doing a check?
It’s part of the Solitary Defilement solo rules.
Thanks , great vid ! What si This dope color Map ?
It’s the board from Dungeon Degenerates.
Great video, thanks. Do you think Solitary Defilement can be used with other rules systems?

Kickstarter. Easy enough to print the PDF though.
My only apprehension with solo play as it feels like constant book keeping and looking things up. There's no natural breaks and it feels like I'm following a list of instructions in the form of if/then statements.
That’s a good assessment. The procedure is part of the appeal for me. It’s contemplative, and slow.

Looks like a fun game. Did you have to give up your intro on the stairs?
I constantly cycle through different intros.
@@TheDungeonDive Ah, that’s good. I really like that illustration. I did a Google search just to see where it came from.
I can't believe you killed the dog 🐕- 😦 it was just hungry. You could not sleep because of your conscience! 😉

They say misery loves company. Frustrated Inc.
any chance you can put these on your podcast feed?
I probably can. Need to move all the solo RPG stuff there.
@@TheDungeonDive would be great, I like to listen to podcasts, including actual play, at night with headphones.
where can i get one of those Maps??!!
Dungeon Degenerates.
Where did you get Solitary Defilement printed?
Kickstarter backer.
@@TheDungeonDive I keep coming back to this video. I love the aesthetics so much. Can you tell me where you got the dice.
Where did you get the map?
Dungeon Degenerates.
God, I just can't like meatgrinder OSR shit. The book is a really cool art piece but the game, no thanks, you can stay in the sewage tank.
Luckily there are games for everyone these days! Sometimes I like playing a cute little rabbit on a quaint quest for some carrots, and other times....this! :)
Where do you get the solo rules and adventures?
Lots of places! Just go a google search for Solitary Defilement. The adventures I make up on my own.
