    really wish there was a woman in this convo, esp on the sexism topic, but also because women are essential in broad conversations like this aiming to discuss the definition of an entire culture that involves women just as much as it involves men. that said, it was a good thoughtful discussion.

    Love the conversation. I work in the Death Industry and mainly with death certificates. There is one specific area that asks for Hispanic origin. Within that section there is a line that reads, Mexican, Mexican American, Chicano. When my day comes I know someone will click this line for me. Much love ❤

    Chicanos were people born here in the United States & were labeled that because of not wanting or being excepted by the Mexicans from the other side of the border, they were anti establishment & in the late 60’s & early 70’s Chicano was bad word (derogatory) as Webster’s dictionary defined it then.

      Hi 👋 ,,, nope ,, I think you have the wrong perspective about the negative side about what the word XICANO OR CHICANO 🇲🇽🇺🇸 MEANS ( Primary based in the Webster dictionary definition , of course Webster dictionary denotes it as a derogatory word ,, it’s an ANGLO SAXON edition book ,, no wonder why of it’s wrong interpretation and definition of the word CHICANO OR XICANO 🇲🇽🇺🇸. 🤷🏻‍♂️ but in our correct meaning CHICANO OR XICANO 🇲🇽🇺🇸 it’s all about being unique and proud of it 👍🇲🇽🇺🇸 . ) … 🙏 ,,, But By Real ,, it means or denotes a person born in USA 🇺🇸 from MEXICAN 🇲🇽 , Descendant ,,, it’s nothing negative or derogatory about it ,, all contrary it’s something to feel proud of it , it’s a blend of two worlds THE MEXICAN 🇲🇽 AND THE AMERICAN 🇺🇸 , but always tending more on the side and lovely MEXICAN way of life , Customs And Traditions , this is an Identity transparent and original of a self acceptance and pride exhibited by 🇲🇽🇺🇸 THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT CHICANO OR XICANO 🇲🇽🇺🇸 MEANS AND ITS ALL ABOUT IT 🇲🇽🇺🇸 , ALSO IT ALWAYS BEING ACCEPTED AND SUPPORTED BY MEXICANS BORN IN MEXICO 🇲🇽,, ALWAYS MEXICANS 🇲🇽 AND MEXICAN AMERICANS 🇲🇽🇺🇸 SUPPORTING THE FIGTH AND STRUGGLE ALL THE WAY UP TOGETHER FOR OUR HUMAN RIGTHS AND EXISTENCE 🇲🇽🇺🇸👍 … Derrogatory it’s the terminology POCHO … POCHO IS THE ONE THAT REJECTS ITS OWN IDENTITY OF BEING CHICANO OR XICANO , … GRETINGS 👋😎🧢🇲🇽🇺🇸 .

      According to the Chicano social studies. It’s both people those who are born here and those who grew up here in the states. It’s a person that don’t fit here and don’t fit there. And it’s the voice our parents or grandparents never had. Meaning we stand up for what’s right.

    You are day in and day out.
    I also believe chicanosmo is also something we inherit partially do to social economic and political pride and this is because most Hispanics that do not relate to chicanosmo are economically removed from the masses of the Chicano pride environment.
    I also believe that Chicanosmo is based on Mexican/Aztlan ancestry.
    As being Native American I don’t think you can be Filipino or anyone with Chicano tattoos are another form of cultural appropriation.

    A Chicano is one who racially identifies as Mechica (Mexica) indegenious and american nationally. They recognize that they are not european, and not mexican they are descendents of the original inhabitants of these lands. That is what I would say a Chicano is. Chicano culture is a different question, anyone can identify culturally as chicano if they grew up in the Barrio and or have been raised with chicano ideologies, customs, values, and beliefs.
    IMHO

    The Tejano defines from Texas so what is Chicano is 1st to be from the southwest
    2nd a shared History 3rd daily life is filled with the mixture of Mexican n American in language, food,music for the Tejano somewhat similar but daily life more texas, n Mexican So a tejano in CA is still Tejano a Chicano in TX still a chicano

    I wanna add one more thing yes this conversation needs to happen again, but I think that in order for us to understand who we are as of people Chicanos, we have to look back in history all the way to the Mexican American war and what happened to our people and that’s where Chicanos come from so in order for people to speak on this I would like you to bring someone who has studied the history of Chicanos way back from the Mexican American war I recommend a book called Bad Mexicans and it gives us quite a bit of an insight from around the century and how laws came to play against Mexicans. These laws were very specific to Mexicans and blacks who were freed from slavery or direct descendants of slavery so that’s why it’s important to tell our history as it is and not pull other people in just because they want to be in the basket, we appreciate that they support us and embrace us, but let’s be clear who we are

    There are two conversations to be had when discussing women selling their image vs having a man sell it for them.

    • @BrandonLoranMaxwell
      @BrandonLoranMaxwell  3 роки тому +1

      No woman is forced to be on the cover of a magazine. She is selling her image the moment she agrees to pose in front of a car for money.

    • @k.2358
      @k.2358 3 роки тому

      @@BrandonLoranMaxwell yes they sell thier image but that doesn't mean they are asking to be objectified. It's a similar conversation to sex work. People should be able to sell thier body but that doesn't mean they become an object for everyone's satisfaction. So a person with an only fans has a much better understanding of what this is like. Women painted on cars are being shown of as an object. That's the argument. And it's true.

    • @k.2358
      @k.2358 3 роки тому

      @@BrandonLoranMaxwell I think that people who paint people on cars can use it as a form of appreciation like you said. But I really don't think that people who are talking about misogyny and sexism are talking about this. They just don't want cars to be decorated with women the same way people decorate with colors or other inanimate objects. It's weird. Women don't need to be painted on the side of cars to be glorified. It's like when people get a tattoo of thier mom. That tattoo of a mom is not the same as having a pinup girl tattooed on. One is a real person and the other is the objectification of someone.

    • @k.2358
      @k.2358 3 роки тому

      @@BrandonLoranMaxwell I liked the conversion you had in this video. I went and checked out some of your articles. I really like what you write about and will definitely keep tabs. It was a great video but when you started the topic there was that short discussion about there being no women there to talk about machismo and sexism. Anyways if you see this I would really appreciate some recommendations of where i can learn more about the chicano movement of just Mexican-American history. The only author who I have started looking at was Gloria Anzaldua and I really like her work.

Food? Man I see it like this don't forget this land was indigenous native people brown pride sounds better because the original look is brown eyes straight black hair brown skin so try uniting our people not breaking them I think this would help black straight isn't curly and it's not straight blonde God created us a certain way so try to be greatfull at the end of the day Chicano Chapin Mexican is a beautiful culture and color there is up and downs in our race but what we have to do is make it better peace ☮️ people love your ABC's

    The cholos today are a pure definition of chicanos chicanos are people who face the oppression if you don't go through the stigmas or grow up in neighborhoods of oppression with family history here for generations you are not a chicano. These are not cultures! Mexican Americans are not all the same. Not everybody experiences life like we do. It is our duty to uphold justice in our communities. Chicanos are people in low class barrios in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah & California. We are descendants of the originals it is not a movement and not everybody can identify as one.
