@@Family.UA-cam.account Actually at the beginning of the series (about 1773), Sarah is 15, James is 14, and Henri is 8, so towards the end of the series (1787) Sarah would be about 29, James 28, and Henri 22 which doesn't make sense LOL but also Ben Franklin died in 1790 so he would still be around at the end of the series.
Surprisingly the show was told from a wide variety of perspectives from Africa-American slaves to the British soldiers witnessing history. It was incredible historical fiction that truly taught young kids like me back in the day about the American Revolution. It inspires me to write this quote: "True patriotism is not based on blind loyalty to the state nor its worship. It is about embodying the virtues and morality that make this country great. At times, it is a duty of a patriot to turn against the country itself if it fails to live up to the expectations of their citizens who invested their trust towards the government."
This show was the thing that made me love history, and the American Revaluation. I'm currently in a history bachelor's program, and love to write time travel.
i honestly can't believe there are people other than me who know this show, my mom bought all of the discs of liberty's kids when i was really young. I remember always putting in the disc to watch my daily episodes of that show, the nostalgia i get from just hearing the opening song☺
Yeah I had the same thoughts. I used to watch that show all the time when I was younger and I'd dress up as best I could as a British soldier as I watched it lol (I think I sympathized with the British more than the Americans tbh) But it's a real good show and I would like to find out or even see what happened to all the characters after the series
The first draft of the Declaration Of Independence called for the end of slavery. Unfortunately this angered the delegates from South Carolina and Georgia to the point where they threatened to not join the other colonies. So it unfortunately was removed.
It was under the assumption that the need for slavery would die down starting in 1800, which actually was the cutoff date for importing new slaves. If it wasn’t for the Cotton Gin, likely it would have died down on its own and become obsolete.
Exactly, the founders were basically pressured into keeping it around. Unfortunately the schools and media these days try to manipulate people into believing the main reason the revolution happened was to protect slavery, despite England not even being close to abolishing it. It’s centralized around this thing they call the 1619 project or something. It’s essentially one massive pile of reinterpretations and outright lies that try to make America look like the physical embodiment of racism.
There where supposed to be more episodes but apparently the 2008/2009 recession threw a wrench in it and what makes it even more frustrating is that Reo Jones (the voice actress for Sarah) confirmed that Sarah and James were supposed to end up together and we never got to see that! 😑 Im curious to see if there is any lost media from this such as scripts and storyboards, if anyone from the crew still has any of that I hope they upload it to the internet some day for everyone to see.
11:05 Wholeheartedly agree! What makes characters (& historical figures) relatable is how they deal with their FLAWS. Having Franklin actually admit to his past prejudices and that he was wrong for thinking that way would've actually made him more compelling and even make you root for him more for where he is now in helping others like Moses.
This was my favorite show in 4th grade; now looking back at it when I’m older, I still experience the same entertainment watching it while gaining a deeper understanding of the messages that I didn’t get when I was younger.
my 1 other issue with the show - our main trio does not AGE! The show covers events from 1773 - 1787 Sarah was 15, James 14 & Henri 8 or 9 at the start of the series, yet not once in the 14 years over the course of the show do they look any older! Showing the trio grown up after all the events of the show would've further shown their growth from Liberty Kids at the start to Liberty Adults at the end. I would love to have seen Sarah at 29, James at 28 & Henri at 22 (or) 23 😩
clearly all three of them are actually eldritch gods taking human form to witness the revolution first hand and that's why they never age and are always in the right place at the right time.
YES IKR. I did wonder do we start at 1773 or 1775 bc I know it begins with the Boston Tea Party but I tend to think that they are 15, 14, and 8 in 1775. I did the same calculations you did and I got the same ages they would've been at the end of the series.
Here is my story of my love for Liberty's Kids. I remember it as if it was yesterday... It was an August afternoon and I was only 8 years old. A package arrived that afternoon and my mom said it was for me. She knew I was really into the American Revolution and all that so I assumed she ordered it for that reason. We opened it and it was a case of 4 dvds that said Liberty's Kids. I'd never heard of this show before, but I was curious to see what this show was actually about. When I put the first Dvd into the player, the main menu popped up on screen and I pressed the "Play All" button. Then the theme song came on and I instantly loved it. The first episode I watched was The Boston Tea Party. I loved everything about it, especially the British soldiers as I was usually a British sympathizer and would always dress up as best I could as a British soldier. My favorite characters were James and Henri, and I thought Sarah to be annoying. Moses was really good too. After watching that episode I watched a few more, but I think my favorites were The Shot Heard Round The World, United We Stand, and Bunker Hill. I continued to watch the show until I was about 11-12. I was getting into the early teenage years and I was growing out of history and all that and getting into video games and all that. But just until maybe about a month or two ago did my interest in the American Revolution revive itself. I decided to watch some Liberty's Kids bc I hadn't watched any in probably 5-6 years (I'm 17) for nostalgia purposes and afterwards, I really saw and understood the messages the show was trying to present. It was a big part of my childhood and if I ever had kids in the future, I'll be sure to have them watch this. Overall a great, underrated show and I'm glad there are others out there who are just as interested in this show as I am.
Even though I was too young to watch it on TV, it being available on UA-cam certainly helped (giving me great nostalgia in the process). Same with a lot of the stuff I watch online nowadays. I only watched the series because I like history.
I remember watching this show on PBSKids when I was like 6 years old. I think it was also on KidsWB at one point, because I remember watching two versions of it. One with commercials (KidsWB) and one with some kind of quiz game thing (PBSKids). Anyways, I'm so happy you made this video. Probably the most detailed explanation of the show I've seen so far.
I'm not kidding you, until you said it I thought it was "Liberty Kids" not "Liberty's Kids". I can't believe I never noticed that for the past 15 years.
I still own the series on dvd. It was and still is an important show and i plan on sharing it with my kids and grandkids if the day comes- aka if i find someone lol. But i may rewatch the show again for nostalgic sake
i never watched it before, but i remembered it being on pbs kids but i saw bits of it. i thought it was dumb, but it might teach me about history. i learned history through videogames. i want to watch it by myself someday. too bad i didnt watch it as a kid :(
I never watched this series, but watched a video of someone talking about it and reviewing earlier this year or last year, and it made me interested in this piece of animation I never gave a chance to. Your coverage was great, and I learned things I didn't know before regarding history and the cartoon.
This was good thank you! I really like how detailed you got into it, and your right! I've wondered how Moses didn't get in trouble or someone putting a finger on him for being with 3 white children nonetheless, it was a great show to teach us about all these things. Just can't find these types of shows anymore. Keep it up!
I’m in the 5th grade right now! We have been watching this show in our class since last month, my whole class loves it, (My teacher is in fact old school, I have to say this show really breaks down the American Revolution) HENRI IS THE BEST CHARACTER❗️
I loved it! Many kids do not enjoy learning about History and teaching kids to just memorized dates names, and places doesn't always work. This show needed to continue to teach major and important facts in our History. It ended way too soon. ❤
Oh man, I remember this! It's been forever since I've thought of it! If this show were brought back from the halls of obscurity, I would be so happy! A breath of fresh air, too!
This show literally awakened my consciousness and curiosity. Nowadays I cry whenever I think about the show especially the theme song. “Feeling the pain as innocence dies” means nothing when you are 6…. But everything when you’re 26
You did forget that they did an entire episode about how Jefferson was a slave-owner. It was how I learned that some of the founding fathers owned slaves and was, imo, the most important episode.
One character that’s burned into my memory is John Paul Jones, in his episode, his determination to keep fighting even when defeat was certain really stood out to kid me. In particular, there’s a moment where British prisoners are about to escape from the burning ship but he stands over them with 4 pistols in his waist and tells them to help fight or die; SO BADASS. Later I would find out he’s considered the father of the US Navy.
This show was the bomb when I was a kid (for me at least). I remember playing a game on liberty's kids over and over again and becoming more and more obsessed with the american revolution. Then I found all of the episodes on UA-cam. This was around the time I was 10 or 11. I loved learning about Nathan Hale and Ethan Allen. And the swampfox down south. Was I the only weird kid of my generation? Lol I asked my classmates in college if anyone remotely saw or knew of the show. But all I got were blank stares. I did get a few who played the Oregon trail game so that was at least a relief.
You're not the only one but most of the kids I went to school with in elementary school were the Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network type of kids. Like most of them seemed to hate PBSkids for some reason. So they would only watch those cable, action-packed TV shows. It was so sad I couldn't relate to them since I didn't even have cable growing up.
@@professional.commentator omg that was so me. I never grew up with cable and felt so out of place cause all the other kids would watch SpongeBob and etc. Haha I grew up on pbs and qubo. Arthur and Jane and the dragon 😂 Liberty's kids and redwall were those one in a time kinda cartoons on pbs cause the didn't seem to run with the same frequency as the traditional pbs shows.
@@adamferencszi797 Yea I think they actually cancelled Liberty Kids on PBSKids after it finished airing because I never saw it again on that channel. But I did see it airing on KidsWB for some reason. Oh and btw the weirdest part is most of the kids in my elementary school didn't even watch KidsWB or 4Kids which were more in line with channels like Nickelodeon but I don't know they were cable-obsessed for some reason.
Yeah I love this show still and I'm in my mid to late teens and I still occasionally watch this show for nostalgia. I only know two people who watched it as kids but they probably barely remember it anymore if I asked them. It is pretty underrated, but it really helped me gain an interest in the American War for Independence. I also grew up mainly on PBS (and Qubo occasionally). There is also a Liberty's Kids YT channel where you can watch the episodes and they upload about 2 -3 reruns a week so I'm glad people are still interested in this show
Bruh this show was good af. i watched it only a couple times but over the past 15 years but all the ones i did see were good. thanks for making a video on it.
I remember watching Liberty's Kids when I was about five and six years old. PBS shows from the early 2000's was a great teaching source for my mom who homeschooled us. The show gave me a love for American history that I still hold today. I'm glad to hear they included exact quotes from historical figures instead of trying to modernize the speech. I feel like a lot of children's shows today water things down for kids. I agree the show did an amazing job, however I wish they aged up the characters a bit to show the passage of time. On a fun note, I shipped James and Sarah. I thought they would make a cute couple. I was six by the way.😅
A sad part for those who know what happens next is that Henri moves to France with Lafayette. Just in time for a small event called the French Revolution to start...
I love Liberty Kids and It’s because of this show that when our 7th or 8th grade history teacher gave us a test I got all but one question right. It ended up being me and two of my classmates that got to sit outside of the class the next day while everyone else retook the test. Funny thing is is that while I had 1 question wrong, my classmates had 2 & 3 questions wrong. My dad ended up buying me the entire series on dvd in high school. I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving Liberty Kids.
I feel like this show should be OK the air on PBS kids now than back then which is probably why it didn’t really get that much attention back when it first premiered because at the time it seems like it didn’t fit well with the other shows that were airing at the time like Barney and Teletubbies so I can kind of see why this probably wouldn’t fit on PBS back then
I lived and breathed this show as a kid! To this day I'm still incredibly fascinated by the life of the Marquis de Lafayette and it all started because of this show
I’m about to enter 6th grade and in 5th grade we watched liberty kids to learn about the American Revolution. And Man the whole class was so happy when our teacher put it on and some people knew how to sing the intro song (best song ever ) which is shocking.
I was 1 and 2 years old when this show was on but later on I did see a few episodes and then when I found it on UA-cam in the early 2010s I binge watched it.
I really feel like the aging issue isn’t as big a deal as everyone’s making it out to be. The whole point is viewing the events of the Revolutionary War in a relatable way to kids and teens, and watching how the characters react and grow. If the characters are jumping multiple years, we’d be missing a baffling amount of development and also losing the relatability our characters may possess.
This show is seriously underrated. I remember watching some of this show in 5th grade by my 5th grade teacher, and I finished watching the rest after 5th grade. After watching it I became even very interested in learning our nation’s history.
Thank you or saying that they are complex people and that you can't say they are all good or all evil. I've talked to too many people who were only 8 years younger than me who just want to demonize them and not take any of the good they did into account. Humans are flawed, they change over time, and sometimes compromises must be made. You must look at the good and the bad.
Liberty’s Kids was my Saturday morning cartoon. I don’t remember the channel (some slogan about Cookie Jar??) but I can sing the themes song like there will be no tomorrow
I completely forgot this show existed. The first time I watched it was in elementary school our history teacher would show us some clips or full episodes when we were going over the American Revolution and I don't know if the show was ever popular as when I first watched the show it had been over for 11-12 years after the final episode aired before reruns. However I rewatched and it's surprising and interesting that they made a dark topic into a kids show while keeping the elements.
✨I see the way for liberty for alll, the world at the while, just making changes , red , white , blue✨-Theme song of libertys kid all’s watch episode 145 it pretty good

It moved to 5:30 PM and stayed there until October 8, 2004 when it no longer Aired on PBS Kids. However until July 4th of Last Year, the Series Aired on Starz Encore Family as a Series Long Marathon on Independence Day. When the Show aired on the other Networks after the PBS Kids Run, they didn't air the LNN Segments. I liked how they cast Walter Cronkite as Benjamin Franklin. Maria Schiver Arnold Swartsnagger's wife is in this (close enough with the spelling) I miss this show 👍& I also believe some tv announcer, was Benjamin Franklin..🤔 I really liked this show!!
This is still one of my favorite shows. It showed how both sides were wrong in some aspects and right in others. It humanized each and every figure and taught extremely hard topics, like slavery and war, in ways that were historically accurate and easy for a young brain to digest.
I have a question do you think this series knew how long it was going to be cause we the people felt pretty final to me maybe I would of liked a little more than 40 episodes although im used to cartoons running shorter lengths I think its for the best
This is just another example of why I am surprised so many older generations who wonder why we're so empathetic and justice seeking... like this was our KIDS SHOW
This show IS criminally underrated. It was not only educational but somewhat entertaining to watch, I originally watched it to laugh at it but ended up loving it despite me not really being in the age range of their demographic LMAO crazy how they made me patriotic for a good 20 mins despite me literally not even being an American.
How could they cancel such motherfreuding gold like Liberty's Kids, while garbage like Bluey gets a big fan base and subreddit but the best part about bluey on is that there's a hate club about bluey. anyways back to Liberty's Kids, I'm sure all of us 5th graders have watched Liberty's Kids even fifthies this year like me love it and there's some ytp edits on 17 of the episodes.
After i got done watching this show, i had a dream about James. I had a dream that he reunited with his parents, meaning his parents didnt actually die. But, it was just a dream.
I guess a little bit of a funny observaion with this show is that so much time in history passes in this series and the characters don't age at all
They must have the same genetics as Dick Clark.

Liberty's kids and redwall were those one in a time kinda cartoons on pbs cause the didn't seem to run with the same frequency as the traditional pbs shows.
There is also a Liberty's Kids YT channel where you can watch the episodes and they upload about 2 -3 reruns a week so I'm glad people are still interested in this show
Great video! The part at 7:45 had me rolling!
I wonder if they ever had the duel of Alexander Hamilton and Arron burr?
That would've been cool, but the last episode ends with Washington's inauguration which was over a decade before the duel
Bruh this show was good af. i watched it only a couple times but over the past 15 years but all the ones i did see were good. thanks for making a video on it.
Loved the theme song in that show. I watched it on original run
Omg I love this show
Great vid man! Def gonna stick around the channel!
I love this show was so good
this show was FIRE (im going to rewatch it now bc you just gave me hella nostalgia)
I was six by the way.😅
At 6 or 7 I also shipped them and was sad to find out there was never an episode where they became an official couple
A sad part for those who know what happens next is that Henri moves to France with Lafayette. Just in time for a small event called the French Revolution to start...
Wow! Walter Cronkite and all these other celebrities were involved? I can’t believe I never noticed.
Yeah its cool! Especially Billy Crystal as John Adams
My family still has our 40 episodes liberty’s kids DVD, I’m gonna watch it soon for the nostalgia cuz it was genuinely great.
Through My Own Eyes was a bop
And they somehow lost the studio version because the parent company got sold
I still love this show
I love Liberty Kids and It’s because of this show that when our 7th or 8th grade history teacher gave us a test I got all but one question right.
I remember finding out about this show way later after it aired and loved it. I think I was in my mid 20s.
This show was my favorite when I was growing up.
Dis man 🤧 did a magnificent job of presenting this masterful show.
To this day I'm still incredibly fascinated by the life of the Marquis de Lafayette and it all started because of this show
Personally Sarah i could not get rejected like that😂🤣 i remember watching that episode as a kid and i rolled on the floor dying 😂😂
I’m about to enter 6th grade and in 5th grade we watched liberty kids to learn about the American Revolution. And Man the whole class was so happy when our teacher put it on and some people knew how to sing the intro song (best song ever ) which is shocking.
My Favorite Characters on the Show were Sarah and Henri
Liberty's kids forever❤❤❤❤
Yes!!! 🔴⚪🔵 (
I was 1 and 2 years old when this show was on but later on I did see a few episodes and then when I found it on UA-cam in the early 2010s I binge watched it.
This show was underrated.
I really feel like the aging issue isn’t as big a deal as everyone’s making it out to be. The whole point is viewing the events of the Revolutionary War in a relatable way to kids and teens, and watching how the characters react and grow. If the characters are jumping multiple years, we’d be missing a baffling amount of development and also losing the relatability our characters may possess.
true true
Although they could've maybe made their voices sound a tiny bit older...
This show is seriously underrated. I remember watching some of this show in 5th grade by my 5th grade teacher, and I finished watching the rest after 5th grade. After watching it I became even very interested in learning our nation’s history.
While they did make more cartoons after this, Liberty's Kids was the final hurrah for DIC Entertainment IMHO.
5:08 this guy right here I think that's Goku's voice actor
Liberty’s Kids was my Saturday morning cartoon. I don’t remember the channel (some slogan about Cookie Jar??) but I can sing the themes song like there will be no tomorrow
Well done man 🇺🇲
I completely forgot this show existed.
✨I see the way for liberty for alll, the world at the while, just making changes , red , white , blue✨-Theme song of libertys kid all’s watch episode 145 it pretty good
I feel like I missed out on so many kids shows all because I didn't grew up in the US.
Kayla also voiced Sybil Ludington in this show
Recently watches it and went trhoguh it to understanding how it happened. Im amazed the main characters never aged.
When Liberty's Kids Premiered on PBS Kids on September 2, 2002, it Aired at 4:30 PM on GBH 2. Then on September 1, 2003. It moved to 5:30 PM and stayed there until October 8, 2004 when it no longer Aired on PBS Kids. Liberty's Kids also Aired on The DIC Kids Network in September 2004, 2005 on Spacetoon, 2008 on History, This TV's Cookie Jar Toons Block and on CBS' Crookie Jar TV Block from 2012 to 2013, Starz Kids And Family in 2017 and on Starz Encore Family until August 2019. RIP Walter Cronkite I think my Favorite Characters were Sarah and Henri
3:43 yes and no he did at one point but he hated the idea later in his life
This was one of my favorite show
my sister used to watch this on saturdays when she was 7 it was one of her favorites she understood it
I love the show! I was in the 4th grade when the show aired, so I was learning about the American War at the time.
Omg background music from mario sunshine!
I used to watch this show when I went over to my friends house after school to do our homework in like 5th grade
Maria Schiver Arnold Swartsnagger's wife is in this (close enough with the spelling) I miss this show 👍& I also believe some tv announcer, was Benjamin Franklin..🤔 I really liked this show!!
I think you're thinking of Walter Kronkite..but, you are right.. :) 👍
Of course it was the only guest star who felt like Arnold Schwarzenegger commanding the American Revolution. He was.
This is the show that came on after the Saturday morning cartoons were done you either went to go play or kept watching this lol
I watched every episode in class. Its amazing show. I know the entire intro. Its so firrrrre
Damn this was 20 years ago when I was 7 watching this after school cause we didn’t have cable
I remember seeing some episodes of this in school (I can't remember which grade).
I was so so so so SO disappointed they didn't also do this show for other periods of American history!
This tv show is half the reason Im going to get a doctorate in some history degree
Best show
How could they cancel such motherfreuding gold like Liberty's Kids, while garbage like Bluey gets a big fan base and subreddit but the best part about bluey on is that there's a hate club about bluey. anyways back to Liberty's Kids, I'm sure all of us 5th graders have watched Liberty's Kids even fifthies this year like me love it and there's some ytp edits on 17 of the episodes.
@nothingness12332 I'm pretty much willing to defend liberty kids
Hell fucking yea like I got the box set
Ohio Wilderness
I love this show.
Anyone rember the boobahs?
After i got done watching this show, i had a dream about James. I had a dream that he reunited with his parents, meaning his parents didnt actually die. But, it was just a dream.
Sad
Liberty's Kids is THE show for the American Revolution HANDS DOWN.
My teacher shows liberty's kids for social studes
