That "darn you all to heck" line is actually a reference to the original Planet of the Apes from the 60's! Which, for its time, was pretty dang good. Wait until you understand the reference, it changes everything!
I'm surprised they didn't get it. I've never seen the original movie, but that line is literally one of the most famous movie quotes in pop culture ever.
That line is the only reference I got as a kid, not that I’ve ever seen Planet of the Apes but simply because it was too iconic and memorable just like “I am your father” line.
Fossa aren’t quite cats, but they’re very closely related. They’re native only to Madagascar, being the largest mammalian predator on the island. They are currently considered “Vulnerable” by the IUCN Red List (basically a list of animals that are endangered or at risk of becoming endangered)
It’s kind of funny that you say that Skipper’s (the lead penguin) voice is perfect, because I’m pretty sure the director, Tom McGrath, was only going to voice him until they found a voice actor for him, but people liked his performance so much that he officially became the voice actor for Skipper!
Thats so crazy to me like how could he not hear iconic and perfect his voice acting was for Skipper. Skipper is my favorite I love the penguins and him voice acting for Skipper is also comedy gold how didn't he not see right away lol but maybe he's humbling and didn't think too much of it lol but absolutely perfect lmfao
1. The Madagascar movies and its spinoffs are so suprisingly solid in retrospect, with the 2nd one widely being considered the best. 2. The Penguins and King Julian are absolute standouts. They literally steal every scene they're in.
@@poro9084 The voice actor , Sacha Baron Cohen, also loved playing the role so much that I think he went out of his way and demanded they call him back if Julian was in the sequel, which of course they did. He also came up with the character's personality and voice on the spot. Just a shame the 2nd movie was the last time he played the character. Mainly due to working on several bigger projects.

I appreciate the scene between Marty and the police horse. It's one thing for the animals to understand each other inside the zoo and even in the wild (it would be expected), but I feel that the police horse added another layer to the language/communication detail. I also appreciate that it was clear he was a veteran police horse, even though he only appeared briefly.
Fun Fact: King Jillian was originally only going to have 2 or 3 lines and be essentially a cameo but the director loved Sacha Baron Cohen’s delivery so much he beefed up the part
Idk if you caught it, but when the lion was pouncing on the zebra, that fanfare playing was the classic national geographic theme, because whenever they show predators, they like to include footage of a kill.
Fossas are cat-like predators native to Madagascar. They're distant relatives of mongosses and meerkats and are about the size of a fox. They're primary prey is lemurs.

24:48, Fossa are not cats, they're their own group entirely but just happen to have cat like features. Due to being separated from the main land for millions of years, all the plant and animal life on Madagascar are completely unique to that island.
Super funny, I used to think my mother was insane always watching it and talking it up, but then I watched without falling asleep and it was the best. I love it when animals still act like animals rather than like people like in Zootopia. Don't get me wrong I really like that movie too, but I like the writing and scenarios when animals behave as what they are.

The fossa is a slender, long-tailed, cat-like mammal from Madagascar. They have a cat-like appearance but are Eupleridae which is a group of carnivore family found in Madagascar. The fossa is related to the mongoose, not the feline family.

14:12 This isn't the only time the Hawaii 5-0 theme is used as a joke in a DreamWorks movie! It's used in Shrek 2, when the royal announcers arrive at the swamp to tell Fiona and Shrek that Fiona's parents want to bless their marriage. It's the theme Reggie starts playing before the guy reading the scroll smacks him upside the head and tells Reggie to stop.
Ahahahhahah yes these movies and the spin offs are literally so good, it’s really impressive how consistent they were able to be with the quality almost getting better each movie Also they had no reason going this hard for the soundtrack, so much nostalgia for me, my family used to watch this all the time and I still quote from all the movies way too often King Julien, especially is such a scene stealer, I just love him
The lady liberty statue was a reference to Planet of the Apes (original), where at the end of the movie (spoiler) the astronaut finds out that the planet he landed on after awaking from cryo was actually a post-nuclear Earth. Which earned me deep respect for the movie. I hate it when movies have other planets with humans or English-speaking beings on it without explanation. The astronaut gets down on his knees and curses the humans who destroyed the planet as they knew it.
You should look into watching "All hail King Julian" (1) and "All Hail King Julian: Exiled" (2) they depict the lives of the Lemurs before this movie; they should still be on Netflix...
The Liberty “darn you all to heck” reference is fron the original Planet of the Apes! You guys should watch it, they have crazy practical effects and vfx for their time
Don't know if you caught it but when Marty and Alex reunited on the beach Marty basically said, well... Sugar Honey Iced Tea Very clever way to input curse words into your pg kids movie.
If you're looking for more iconic animated films that were popular around that time (~2013, 2014): - Alvin and the Chipmunks (the movies. really interesting to see how animation blends in with live action film) - Big Hero 6 (im guessing u guys have already seen this but i would LOVE a reaction from u guys) - Wreck it Ralph (my 9 year old self cried in the theatre... it is underrated but cool af) - More Ghibli!! (on your anime channel!)
What I love about movies like this, is that there’s always going to be details that you probably missed out on from your childhood past to the recent present! Also, my condolences to the kids who got into trouble for reading along Alex’s help sign.
19:33 yeah, this is a reference to the original Planet of the Apes (1968). I won't spoil the context of it though, since it's a pretty good movie for you to watch, even if you don't react to it on the channel.
@whitenoisereacts those predators that always hunt the lemurs are called fossa's, they look like they are cats but they are not cats at all they are more closely related to mongoose and hyenas than cats. Fossa's are an example of convergent evolution which is when a species occupies the same niches and adapts to have the same physical characteristics as another animal that's not related to it.
You commented on the zebra enclosure. The truth is, older, big city zoos don't reflect modern thoughts of animal comfort and health. They were built at a time when keeping a large animal in a small, square space was the norm. Most of these zoos work hard to improve the living conditions and to expand their enclosure spaces but they are also limited by the small amount land they already have.
oh this is gonna be fun!! gonna grab a snack and settle in and enjoy this one! fun fact - it came out my freshman year of high school and my religion teacher we were all so terrified of played it for us one day the week before finals because he said "we deserved a fun/no work day" we all adored him so much after that and he remained one our favorite teachers all the way through senior year.
I rewatched this film for the first time in years just a couple months ago. Yeah, even though I felt like the animation was a little choppy at times, and that Melman, and Gloria weren’t quite as well developed as Marty, and Alex, I still loved this film for the most part from beginning to end. I thought there was still heart in it, the jokes were funny, and surprisingly even symbolic at times (i.e. when Alex is sitting in front of the HELP sign, and part of the last letter falls, and makes it spell HELL, and Alex is sitting there super pissed, while, Marty, Melman, and Gloria are on the other side having more of a fun time). Oh, and I loved the “Darn you! Darn you all to heck” joke (which I didn’t realize was a reference to a scene near the end of an older Planet Of The Apes film that was released apparently in 1968). Oh, and I loved “Oh sugar on iced tea.” Anyway, thanks for reacting to this film, and I look forward to watching your reaction to the second Madagascar film, and hopefully even the third one, should that come out fairly soon.
When Marty is in Grand Central and mentions taking Metro North to Stamford I can verify this is a true statement. I live in Stamford CT and the Metro North rail line does indeed pass through the Stamford Transportation Center on its way to Bridgeport and New Haven along Connecticut coastline heading east.
I remember when my dad took us to see this movie in theaters. I was 4, and this shit was the pinnacle of comedy to my family for most of my childhood. I distinctly remember hearing how much my father laughed at the New Yorker jokes (we're all from Long Island, about 1hr drive from Manhattan - and, yes, New York traffic is atrocious. You always have that one relative who tells you that you MUST not take this route {usually the BQE}, you have to take that one, which contradicts what 3 other people told you when you drive for the first time in NYC. Driving is a nightmare, don't recommend. Walking and the Subway or LIRR are fine, if you understand the alphabet soup of directions on NY train maps) while we sat in the theater and realizing that he thought it was ridiculously funny. We were really big into the arts and theater, were raised on local and Broadway productions thanks to our very lovely uncle taking us out to shows, so Alex's very New York-theater-based character just hit home for us. My sister and I shared a bedroom for many years, and I know at one point in our childhood we had a TV in our room and I would play Madagascar over and over and over. I liked replaying familiar things that were comforting, and for a lengthy period of my childhood (probably aged 8-11) I would watch the movie every night, sometimes several times in one night. I'm not exaggerating. That being said, this movie being something I rewatched literally every day for that many years due to an obsessive tendency to fixate on a passion/various passions is actually one of the missed signals of autism from my childhood that I'm finally seeking help for. Weird, how this movie ended up as a part of my symptoms/traits list. I have so many emotions about this movie that would be too annoying to keep talking about but basically I'm excited y'all are watching the films. They fill me with uncontainable joy.

Ahahahhahah yes these movies and the spin offs are literally so good, it’s really impressive how consistent they were able to be with the quality almost getting better each movie
Also they had no reason going this hard for the soundtrack, so much nostalgia for me, my family used to watch this all the time and I still quote from all the movies way too often
King Julien, especially is such a scene stealer, I just love him
I love this franchise, especially the Penguins. They got their own movie 😄
Which They Are.
Madagascar 2 is my ultimate favourite and Madagascar 3 a close second.
The "darn you to heck" line is a reference to 1960s Planet of the Apes movie. Great movie, you should watch it.
The Liberty “darn you all to heck” reference is fron the original Planet of the Apes! You guys should watch it, they have crazy practical effects and vfx for their time
Darn, y'all cut out the Silence of the Lambs reference. Their expressions when the penguin says "We killed 'em and ate their livers" is hilarious! 😂
Don't know if you caught it but when Marty and Alex reunited on the beach Marty basically said, well...
Sugar
Honey
Iced
Tea
Very clever way to input curse words into your pg kids movie.
I remember watching this with my dad it was hilarious so many good jokes now as and adult I get
If you're looking for more iconic animated films that were popular around that time (~2013, 2014):
- Alvin and the Chipmunks (the movies. really interesting to see how animation blends in with live action film)
- Big Hero 6 (im guessing u guys have already seen this but i would LOVE a reaction from u guys)
- Wreck it Ralph (my 9 year old self cried in the theatre... it is underrated but cool af)
- More Ghibli!!
That was an OG Planet of The Apes reference when Alex was on his knees in front of Lady Liberty.
Fun fact: despite looking like hyenas or coyotes, fossa are actually closely related to mongoose.
So much fun thanks a lot!
I promise you guys the first two movies are honestly gold 🙌🏾
You guys should react to Surfs Up. That movie and Madagascar are both on the same level, so hilarious😭
Gotta love the penguins and baby Mort 😭
oh this is gonna be fun!! gonna grab a snack and settle in and enjoy this one! fun fact - it came out my freshman year of high school and my religion teacher we were all so terrified of played it for us one day the week before finals because he said "we deserved a fun/no work day" we all adored him so much after that and he remained one our favorite teachers all the way through senior year.
👆👆👆 Congratulations you have been selected among my winner of the week massage me to acknowledge your price 👆👆👆👆
The Penguins Carried the whole Franchise
Madagascar is a Pop culture, iconic!
There’s a series on Netflix based on king Julian and his kingdom
@22:10 [Alex dreaming about hundreds red steaks flying around.. Marimba or similiar wood instrument playing hypnotic music.]
This is a reference to the 1999 movie *American Beauty.*
19:25 - that's a reference to "Planet of the Apes" original movie. You should react to it. It's a classic for a reason!
that "darn you all to heck" was a reference to The planet of the Apes. which you guys should def react to!
Foosa are a part of a family of animals that are only on Madagascar. However the closest relative would be the mongoose.
i got attacked by a lemur just over a year ago and had to use king julian to clarify what exactly a lemur was to all the er doctors! these were some of my favorite movies growing up too so it's just so ironic to me that that event happened. still of course love the movies, not so keen about king julian anymore though unfortunately lol
For me, the penguins are clearly the A-Team, with their namecode and everything, but they're penguins xD
Madagascar is one of my funniest movies of all time. I love the characters especially the penguins, awesome adventures and funny moments
P.S. Just smile and wave everyone! Smile and wave!😁😁😁👋👋👋
💥💥💥🤣🤣🤣
I used to watch this movie all the time, it was one of my favorites.😊
omg that penguins sequence reminded me of when DVD's had the games on them, I remember playing the one where you escape as the penguins when they're on the boat 😂
👆👆👆 Congratulations you have been selected among my winner of the week massage me to acknowledge your price 👆👆👆👆
Absolute best movies, watch it with my little ones every single time, and I'll be sure to watch the reaction with them as well.
I’ve watched this movie SO many times, since my parents owned it when I was a kid. I could probably recite this off the top of my head, along with The Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Toy Story, and a few others
Madagascar always cracked me up as a kid, even today 🤣
Can you guys do more Q&A's in future videos ?
Not Wicker Man, it was a reference to Planet of the Apes. Great reaction, great movie x
Yaay🥰, this movie is so joyful, been a while since I watched it and I'm glad you're reliving it🙌🏽✨
If you like this movie’s deliberately cartoony style, its over-the-top zaniness, and its self awareness, please consider watching ‘Hoodwinked’.
The animation is low-budget, and it shows; but if you can get past that the script and cast are stellar.
The Penguins are my fav lol there like Mission impossible times 10 and visiting NY is so fun defiantely a fun film the creativity and comments on NY is great and even better how the animals have their own human ish traits like one of the monkey's does sign language lol
Madagascar is one of mine most favorite childhood movie franchise . For real I got both DVDs of the first movie and second film both of which I got as a kid, also I still have so many fond memories of watching this movie growing up. It's still one of my top favorite movies from DreamWorks to this day.
Fossa aren't cats, they are closer to civets and have convergently evolved to fill a similar niche to cougars! Cool animals
Madagascar really is a great and funny movie.
The statue of liberty and the darn you all to heck is part pf another movie involving apes but I cant say too much more because of spoilers
How have you not seen these yet?!!! They are amazing!! Also I really like the third movie too
Though it is a bit weird for me to watch these reactions when the movie is in English. I'm from Finland and I have always watched this movie in Finnish. So the voices sound a bit weird for me XD
Been a while since I’ve seen this but it’s every bit as fun and crazy as I remember. 🤣 Can’t wait to see your reaction to the sequel!
The penguins actually have their own show! And so do king julien
The penguins one is called,, the penguins of Madagaskar,, and the king julien one is called,, long live king julien,, i think
I remember so vividly waking up on the couch with the menu screen of this movie playing on repeat when I was a kid 😂 it was so nice to revisit it with your reactions!! ❤
sugar honey ice tea lol that was so funny
the darn you to heck on the beach with the burning statue was a planet of teh apes reference. if you havent seen that its a classic. also the prequel trilogy they did like a decade or so ago was really really good.
19:18 is a reference to Planet of the Apes, it’s the big twist😂
