@@nyebartlettNo, bittersweet. Even while being shut down, they still used the last of their creative freedom to show us something that I'm sure most of us have been hoping to see growing up with the franchise.
It also always strikes me how _DIEGO_ (of all people) is so quick to notice. Like, right away, he nudges Sid to shush. I feel like that was the start of his turnaround; Manny saving his life more or less completed it, and possibly the baby walking to him with his first steps, reinforced it.
Well if you think about it, when Manny confronted the two trying to kill Sid, he specifically says he doesn't like beings who kill for pleasure. Not beings that kill in general, just those that don't warrant it. That implies that Manny knows the hunters can't truly be blamed for killing his family. Because unlike the tigers who were trying to kill for revenge and the rhinos were trying to kill for self satisfaction. The humans were only hunting for survival; for food and for materials to keep them warm and make weapons out of. Manny knows that to hunt for survival isnt a malicious thing to do; the world is kill or be killed. And humans back then weren't at the top of the food chain so they had to be very vigilant in order to survive. Manny probably doesn't hold a grudge against the humans for merely surviving. Obviously he's in pain over the fact that his family was lost but a group of tigers could do the same thing and Manny would probably feel the same way. Besides, he knows Roshan's tribe wasn't the ones to kill his family so why take his pain out on them? Thats like saying a poc shouldn't help a white orphan find their family because a family member was killed in a racist attack.
In the original cut, Diego was supposed to actually die in the final fight, but they left him alive because apparently it was too emotional and sad for some kids in the test audiences. Great reaction guys! This movie is a classic
Well, Thank god. If he really died I would have been left traumatized as a kid :( He was favorite, I like saber tigers (I remember the first time I saw it and really thinking he was dead...awful lol)

You have opened my eyes. I've watched these movies a sh*tton of times - especially the first one, to the point I could quote it word-for-word - how did I NEVER put that together????????? Mindblown.
I enjoy how similar Sid and Manny’s first encounter is to Shrek and Donkey’s. Sid and Donkey both run away from danger and bump into a grumpy Manny/Shrek who helps them out and end up annoying them but stick together nonetheless!
One thing that is really dark but was confirmed by the movie’s staff was that Manny was going the wrong way of the migration in the beginning of the movie as a way to die on his own, after losing his family. This and other movies by BlueSky are big here in Brazil because of their Brazilian director, Carlos Saldanha. My old nanny used to work for him and my therapist knows him and he seems like a really cool guy! Ice Age was basically his life’s work and it’s really sad that Disney ended up buying it and milking it for stuff like the new spinoff that just came out focused on a character from the third movie, which was terrible. They bought all their IPs and BlueSky ended up having to shut down. You can tell that the movie has a lot of heart and I’d also really recommend the movie Rio from the studio, that also was directed by Carlos Saldanha, it also has a lot of heart and is a love letter to Rio de Janeiro, where Carlos and myself are from! Don’t watch its sequel though as it’s not as good and a bit all over the place Thank you so much for watching Ice Age! It means a lot to me and other Brazilians!
The other ones are definitely not as good as the first one but they're funny tho. I think they should watch them. (Ou era só a dublagem br fazendo o Sid e a avó serem iconicos haha)
I thought Manny was the baby instead of the father for a long time. Him being the dad is even sadder because it's how he ended up so serious and bitter before he found Diego and Sid.
Manny's flashback also gets some pretty dark context to his appearance at the beginning. Literally everyone is migrating away from the incoming ice age, but he was going the opposite direction ^The first time, you might ask why he's going the other direction, but you soon forget because of everything else happening from then on. Yet on a rewatch? Yeah... it hits different
Manny truly does have a lot of emotional depth. To go from a happy loving husband & father, to grieving the loss of his family to the point of depression & suicide, only to overcome all of that to save an innocent sloth, and an innocent human baby. Bond with said sloth, baby, and even a sabertooth tiger. Heal from his grief and depression. And reunite that adorable human baby with its grieving human father. Saving another family from suffering in the way he suffered. Which is all the more incredible and astounding when you realize it was humans who killed Manny’s wife & child. Yet that never stopped him from doing the right thing.
Yeah, it's amazing how much depth you can find in Manny. Knowing that though, I can't help wondering if this may also be the reason he was near that cliff's edge and facing the drop when Sid bumped into him...
@@whitenoisereacts yeah, this series is great. One thing you got wrong though in your final talk tho. That bond between manny and the humans is even stronger than you thought. Manny didn’t lose his parents, he was the dad mammoth in the cave painting, so that means he lost his wife and child to the humans.
Did you know that scrat was just a fictional animal but 5 years later a paleontologist had discovered a small extinct mammal that resembles a shrew with 2 long fangs
Throughout the movies, Scrat is always after his acorn . Even when it's right beside him he can't leave it alone , he has to touch it constantly and it has to be in his line of sight at all times , it's a perfect metaphor for an addiction or a obsession
This movie is so amazing, especially two things I like the most: First: Manny is such an incredible character: humans killed his wife and his child and he still brings a human child back to the father, just fantastic! And second: when the father gives the necklace of his wife to Manny. He gives the only thing that reminds him of his wife to the one who has brought him the most important. I don't know, but even as a kid I always found these two facts magical and just wonderful! But one thing makes me really sad, everytime I'm thinking about it (little SPOILER for the next movies): Manny won't wear the necklace in the other movies :( If he would, that would make my second favourite scene much more heartwarming!!
Another thing about the necklace that I recently noticed is that the small figure on it is very likely made from Mammoth ivory- potentially from Manny's first wife's tusk
I also misunderstood that as a kid, thinking Manny was the baby and lost his parents. But then, after watching The Meltdown, where Sid and Diego asked why Manny wasn't pursuing Ellie at first, and he mentioned "... My family," I rewatched the first Ice Age, and it became more clear that Manny had been the father and lost his wife and child.
I feel like in one the sequels they made, they shouldve showed an encounter with the baby all grown up and he's trying to kill them, but then remembers when he sees the bracelet from when he was a baby
Manny instinctively saves others even when he couldn’t save his family. It’s just his nature. Glad they showed depictions of his life instead of making it a movie we’d all cry from😭
8:20 -- actually-- while it isn't addressed in this movie, it turns out, yes he is (not sure which Ice Age film). I reeeeeaaaalllly *_LOVE_* what they did with Diego's character arc (as well as Manny's backstory too)! ...I think I've heard they were originally planning to have him die for real. I'm so glad they didn't. Wait, no-- Manny didn't lose his _parents_ to humans; he lost his _wife and kid._ ...which makes the dad-to-dad moment when he returns the baby to the father that much more powerful.
It really shows the strength Manny has to forgive the humans for what they took from him, as well as the kindness the man showed to spare what his people thought were just dumb animals. As for Diego, this journey showed him the camraderie with creatures he originally saw as mere enemies or food had more loyalty and trust in him than his own pack who were willing to turn on him or cast him out for failing to kill an innocent child not responsible for actions against Diego's kind.
Fun fact about the glacier/train stop moment: Here in germany we have trains called ICE (inter city express). So yeah. That was quite literally an ICE train passing right there.

Also it was only in rewatches in adulthood did I understand why Manny risks his life for others -- it his way of dealing w the past when he wasn't able to save his own family. This movie holds up as one of my favorites growing up.

He dubbed Jeremy Irons (Appaloosa, Night Train to Lisbon, The Lion King), William Hurt (The Incredible Hulk, Damages, The Challenger), and Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Cinderella Man), among others.
My only regret about Ice age is there is not a single thing about the first one (expect their group) in the next ones. Every time they announced a new movie, I was hoping to see the baby human all grown up found them again and be able to talk to them. But no... Many don't even have the necklace anymore :/
When I saw this in the theater when it first came out, I never laughed so hard the first ten minutes of the movie, in my life. Such a great animated movie.

Idk if anyone’s commented on this already, but the guy who voices Manny is literally none other than Ray Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond! (My favorite sitcom) Rewatching this actually surprises me at how good he actually did with the voice acting, considering how little of it he’s ever done Especially before Ice Age became a film series
I love this movies went to see it with my parents 20 years ago! Blue Sky Studios was bought out by Disney and haven't released any animated films since 2019.
i'm hoping it doesn't take a decade or longer to revive the studio, i saw it had much potential, especially for they're would-have-been upcoming movies
Disney bought the studio only to shut it down later on on April 2021. Blue Sky made a farewell video that shows Scart the squirrel finally eating his acorn 😭

Been waiting for this one ♥ looking forward to watching with y'all when I can, love you guys. This series is so wholesome and funny and sweet. I adore the characters too!
I remember seeing this as a kid. Saw it at a theater in Roanoke VA. Was the first theater I went to that had multiple seating levels with really comfortable chairs that reclined. I'm getting old...lol
I remember this was one of 3 movies I would constantly borrow from the neighbour as a kid and just watch all the time, the other 2 were Shrek, and The Road To El Dorado.
I forgot how good and funny this movie was, I low-key shunned it because my mother wouldn't stop watching it. It drove me nuts, max volume too. Very annoying but I have recovered. Yay. I love the togetherness of it all, and the style is cool, sometimes ice looks cheap, but the had layers with distortion. And it's a kids aimed movie, they don't have to try that hard, but they do and it's dope. I'm looking forward to Anastasia, NT.Brush can hopefully tell me how they got the jewelry to sparkle like it does. 🤔 Recommends.. The original Brave Little Toaster
Manny’s backstory was tragic. But at the same time I can’t be mad at nor blame the humans that killed his family. Like any other creature thousands of years ago, the humans need the food and fur from the mammoths to survive.
James: "wait did Diego really just DIE" Me remembering the next 4 movies that came after this. with Diego haha Anyone else get some serious Shrek vibes at the beginning? Sid being Donkey, running from danger, follows a more intimidating character around for protection. Even though that character clearly wants to be left alone., and Diego being Puss N' Boots, meant to be an antagonist but switched over to the good side midway through, if we include the Shrek sequel. I never noticed till I saw this reaction.. .odd
this is a great movie for rewatching. There always seems to be some parts that will make you giggle though you know whats coming. You didn't include one of my favorites. When Diego is trying to get the baby when they all first meet and he says 'I see, you two cant have one of your own so you adopted'. :)
I will forever stand by the fact that this is one of the funniest movies ever made. I may be 19 years old but this movie makes me crease up laughing every time. Just stupid humour 😂
Bruh I relate to Sid so much as an adult 😂 For real though, this movie made me cry (silently) in theatres when I was a kid realising Manny’s backstory. Also, I love how Ray Romano was just playing himself basically lol.
This movie still holds up aaaa. I think the dated animation adds to it too, tbh. It's almost stylized. It's good to see more people enjoying this film 💙
I normally like to watch movies in their original language(English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, etc.), but the voice actors in the Norwegian dub is litterly so good, I can not watch this version without missing the Norwegian voices actors... Its actually crazy because in almost any other movie I prefer the original language it was created in...
I have so many fond memories of this and the second movie. My sister and I still quote the second movie all the time, and I think it’s probably my favorite of all of them.
I've been waiting for this! I didn't think I was gonna be sick (covid) watching this but anyway I'm happy to see it finally. ❤❤ Ice Age is my childhood, I grew up watching this. Me and my dad would quote it every day and laugh.

Ice Age is one of the absolute best cartoon movie series there is. Especially since all the voice actors don't change throughout the movies. I own all of them up until Continental Drift and love them! I would most definitely watch all your reactions ro them.

Idk if anyone’s commented on this already, but the guy who voices Manny is literally none other than Ray Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond!
(My favorite sitcom)
Rewatching this actually surprises me at how good he actually did with the voice acting, considering how little of it he’s ever done
Especially before Ice Age became a film series
15:23 : "He looks like he's about to get sacrificedon the rock.
Me: *clears throat * who's gonna tell them?
"Iceberg right ahead"! You guys should definitely react to Titanic!
I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw this comment
It would be a commentary and James has mentioned that he's not a fan. So, doubtful unfortunately.
@@moonlitskylight5740 aww bummer
I love this movies went to see it with my parents 20 years ago!
Blue Sky Studios was bought out by Disney and haven't released any animated films since 2019.
i'm hoping it doesn't take a decade or longer to revive the studio, i saw it had much potential, especially for they're would-have-been upcoming movies
Disney bought the studio only to shut it down later on on April 2021. Blue Sky made a farewell video that shows Scart the squirrel finally eating his acorn 😭
@@ButtersMiiCharacter I to say this vut Disney is not going to revive it.
They already have a replacement for Blue Sky
@@Dashiell777 if you don’t want me to give you hope, then don’t give me doubt
@@ButtersMiiCharacter I just don't want you to excited only to be disappointed at the end because that happened to me before I get excited about something and I was disappointed at the end.
2:48 love y’all’s reactions😭😭 and honestly best title drop ever
I love this series sooo much. Named my cats after characters in them.
I remember lying in bed terrified of the baby's face
I remember the internet bashing tf out of this baby lmao. The "I hate the baby from IceAge" trend..
I remember this was one of 3 movies I would constantly borrow from the neighbour as a kid and just watch all the time, the other 2 were Shrek, and The Road To El Dorado.
Manny lost his wife and child to humans, not his parents. Which makes him amazing for looking after a hunter's child
19:58 Sid: No Thanks, I Choose Life? 😂
"Hey Lord of the flames. Your tail's on fire." Is my favorite scene of this movie
The animation improvement is so amazing for these movies. I just compared the first one to the last one and I'm amazed
James: "wait did Diego really just DIE"
Me remembering the next 4 movies that came after this. with Diego haha
Anyone else get some serious Shrek vibes at the beginning?
Sid being Donkey, running from danger, follows a more intimidating character around for protection. Even though that character clearly wants to be left alone., and Diego being Puss N' Boots, meant to be an antagonist but switched over to the good side midway through, if we include the Shrek sequel.
I never noticed till I saw this reaction.. .odd
My favourite prehistoric creature of the Ice age is... the Saber tooth tiger.
it would be so cool to see you guys do all playlist of ice age movies
I remember it was around this time when they stopped releasing movies on VHS.
I grew up on movies like this (also I feel so bad for scrat)
this is a great movie for rewatching. There always seems to be some parts that will make you giggle though you know whats coming. You didn't include one of my favorites. When Diego is trying to get the baby when they all first meet and he says 'I see, you two cant have one of your own so you adopted'. :)
YESS I WANTED TO BRING THIS UP BUT I COULDNT REMEMBER THE LINE little moments like that always stand out to me in this movie it’s so sweet
Wonderful! Thank you. I see you watched Anastasia! I will go watch that now! :D Yay!
I will forever stand by the fact that this is one of the funniest movies ever made. I may be 19 years old but this movie makes me crease up laughing every time. Just stupid humour 😂
Where are the other Ice Age films? Just kidding, continuing to enjoy your reactions and discussions overall, can't wait to see more.
Ice Age is one of my favorite movies growing up. Sorry I haven't watched in awhile life has been crazy.
I used to watch this movie aaaaall the time as a very little kid. It's nice to see it getting some love. :)
And these movies about ice age get better after any movie. Great reaction guys. Always one of the best 😁😁😁
Oh yes! Three men and a baby, Prehistoric animal edition.
This movie holds up no matter how much I age. I also quote it …far too much
“Manny’s a natural dad”
Yeah and he was one once 😬😭
(But he has his happy ending in the end, which is good 😊😊)
You guys need to watch Disney's "Fantasia" and the 1976 Italian tribute to it "Allegro Non Troppo"
Bruh I relate to Sid so much as an adult 😂
For real though, this movie made me cry (silently) in theatres when I was a kid realising Manny’s backstory.
Also, I love how Ray Romano was just playing himself basically lol.
Omg wow I forgot how amazing this series is and how much I loved it!
I'll always love the first 3 movies. Saw the second one in theaters with my mom back in 2006. Good times
Diego was always my favorite but If I had to pick ANY character it would be that poor squirrel. XD
Ray Romano as Manny was pure genius 👏 👌 🙌
Good thing he was the protagonist in all 5 chapters.
playing the movie at a doctor’s office just unlocked a memory 😂😂
Please react to Rio, Legends of guardians the owls of ghoole, Tangled, Flushed away, and Rush hour 2
hoping you react to the rest of the films!! as well as both 'rio' films if you haven't seen them already:]
I have so many fond memories of this and the second movie. My sister and I still quote the second movie all the time, and I think it’s probably my favorite of all of them.
In the dvd opening 21:59 - 22:06 was how the movie play button would show when "activated"
I've been waiting for this! I didn't think I was gonna be sick (covid) watching this but anyway I'm happy to see it finally. ❤❤ Ice Age is my childhood, I grew up watching this. Me and my dad would quote it every day and laugh.
Ice age & shrek are the best movies🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
please continue with this series, these movies are good
I always wonder how the series would have turned out had it stayed with the tone from this, and to an extent 2
Finally, I was literally thinking of requesting you to watch this. My favorite animation series by far!! I cannot wait for you to watch the remaining parts!!!
Ice Age is one of the absolute best cartoon movie series there is. Especially since all the voice actors don't change throughout the movies. I own all of them up until Continental Drift and love them! I would most definitely watch all your reactions ro them.
Omg I had this on VHS as a kid, which means I watched it to death! Nostalgic
That's good winner 2:45 ❤
Even though this isn’t Disney, this is one of my favorite Blue Sky Studios movie
For sure!!!
This isn’t DreamWorks
It’s Blue Sky Studios
@@Luke-3281 I just now edited my comment as soon as you said that
Can't wait for you guys to react to the other Ice Age movies!!!
I think you should give the others a watch! I love every single one, the 4th one is kinda off the rails but it was my favourite as a kid bc I loved Shira 💀
It has a great cast Ray Romano as Manny Dennis Leary as Diego
Have you ever watched Happy Feet? I really recommend you to watch that movie 🤩
