We used your video to clean a fridge bought almost 30 years ago for a log cabin in Northern WI. It had stopped lighting, but now it works like a charm again! Thank you.
RizRon, Thanks for taking the time and effort in getting this video on UA-cam. It's just awesome!! Well done!! It's extremely relevant to a problem we're troubleshooting with our Danby.
@@janewalsh777 I want to keep it. I took it to Sunrise RV Refrigeration Ezra Miller in Holton, Michigan near Grand Rapids. He had a lot of propane fridges at his place. He might or might not have some for sale.
Wow, Great video. I have an RV fridge that wouldn't stay lit. I thought it was the thermocouple but had to wait to get the part. When I blew the dust and dirt from the area I came up with an extra part and couldn't figure where it came from. Now I know it was supposed to be in the gas control valve where the thermocouple connects. Not having it there caused a little fire ( which I quickly put out). Your video also showed the importance of cleaning the flue. Thanks again for explaining the system!!!
This was a great video! You did a great job on cleaning & explaining how things worked. I have one of these that has been sitting around for awhile. So glad that I viewed this first before hooking it up & trying to fire it up. The thing was packed full & clogged in several of the areas that you showed on here. thanks to you it will fire up when I touch it off. Curious though (you did such a great job of thoroughly cleaning everything) who the hell cleans you up at the end of the day, lol.
Hey, Thanks so much for the video....You gave me the balls to take things apart and get the thing going again....cleaned it all up and presto....a recently bought supply of a months worth of food saved...Thanks from the woods of Maine...
Thank you for your video very, very knowledgeable and helpful. I thought I'd give you a little pointers on thermostats. Thermostats are never right. I used to 32°. It melts to 33. If you put your thermostat in a glass of ice, it should rain 32°. If it doesn't adjust it when you adjust it, it will be right.
This is amazing. Thank you. I have flame but the fridge and freezer will not cool down. I will go thru all these steps and see if I can get it working.
Mines the opposite. I have flame but the fridge and freezer won't cool. I'll go thru the steps too and see if it solves my problem. Did your get fixed?
You did a great how to on this . Just a lil fyi though . On threaded fitting only one type of sealant is needed . On the flare fitting the sealant is not needed at all , the bell or ball of the brass fitting is where the seal happens .
Thanks for the video, I have two, my issue is the new electronic gas regulator will not stay lit, it will light with the push button and sparker but even after five minutes of holding the push gas button it goes off, any adjustments to regulator to help solve this? Thanks for the video.
Hey Riz Ron great video was wondering if you found a replacement or compatible thermocouple for that one fridge? I have the same fridge and am desperately trying to find a replacement as parts are discontinued….
I love this design and I love the concept of a frigerator that doesn't need electricity to run. My only real objection though (I guess) would be that you have to replace the propane tank every 4 or 5 days during the summer months which is probably expensive after a few months- or at least that's what I've heard.
Thanks for the helpful video. We bought a camp with two of them. We only use one and it's worked well. This weekend we noticed an odor in the closed up house like 'burned propane exhaust.' Went to bed and the freezer was -10 and the fridge was 34. At noon the next day, the freezer was at 32 and the fridge at 48. Found your vid. Mine does not have the three bolts holding the exhaust stack on. It's got a self tapping screw near the top of the exhaust stack that keeps it in place. Undo that one screw and the stack comes right out. The strangler assy was completely coated in carbon. I didn't do the complete field strip of the burner assy, this time. I needed a working fridge. I'll do that in the fall when I put this place to sleep for the winter. What I did do was cover the burner orifice before I brushed the coils down because any soot falling off the coils, into the burner, wasn't going to anybody any good. Brushed a shot glass of soot out -it was pretty dirty- rubbed everything that I could reach with a crocus cloth, reassembled it and fired it up. Talked to the previous owner. He said that odor was from carbon monoxide being generated. Sounds like I don't have a CO monitor. No big deal. Now that I know how to clean the thing, it'll be a 20 minute job in October.
Thank you for very good information, I just have a question, when you clean the thermostat, do you blow high pressure air directly into the thermostat? And the filter came out at this time ?? thanks again
Did you cover burping the gas if there's a vapor lock, or whatever? you have to roll them over to clear it if it's not making cold. That fixes it in a lot of cases.
Have so e problem with my refricator consul... Don't know if u can help.....so the flame start but when i let free the flame button there is no more flame....what is that problem my friend???
I moved my propane fridge now it won't start I don't even smell propane I tried the tank on a heater and it works I don't see any kinks in any of the lines . Before I moved it it wasn't freezing my freezer do you have any ideas
We have a Consul CQE22A fridge that is set to the warmest setting but still freezing everything in the fridge. Any suggestion what might be causing this?
I have a weird one I can't figure out, Unique 8. It will light and stay lit on defrost for days (and cools). When you set the temp the flame rises and stays lit up until it reaches temp then loses flame. Set it and leave the doors open it will run for days. Close the doors and within a couple hours you lose flame.
Thanks for this video. My Unique propane refrigerator won't light. Bad electrode. The original part for the Unique electrode is not made anymore. I'm going to try the gas grill electrode that you used.
Just wondering what your set up from Bottle to Fridge was? I also have two fridges but can only hook one to our system. Would like to run a drink fridge on a propane bottle.
I have the same refrigerator. It stays lite but is giving me whispy carbon build up on the diffuser. It’s also giving off a smell. I have cleaned it, but still no luck. Any suggestions?
I just got a used unique fridge, about 5 yrs old and the only fitting on it for LP hook up is the union fitting. Do I have to buy a "main valve" and can anyone direct me to one? Cant find one that looks like this.
Now tell us how to fix a consul that the flame burns and I hear gurgling in the back but it only drops the temperature a degree or two over night from room temperature
@@TaylorLivingston I tried everything and everywhere and nothing. All I know is that if there is any discolouring on the outside of the pipes on the back, it indicates a leak in the system and the fridge is junk
Found a maintenance DVD with a google search - they wanted $49.95 for he DVD - bull . I do not have one of these , so sending you money is a little off , I did the search because I found one on ebay and the seller said it needed service . Thanks
I imagine it would be fairly simple to convert the fridge to oil, coal or even solar if you wanted... From what youve shown me heat is all you need to fuel the exchange...
Often you can have a good thermocouple but the flame won’t stay lit upon release of pilot button. This is due to a faulty carbon monoxide monitor. A good Consul fridge carbon monoxide monitor will produce 3.5 v. At white connect just above plug into thermocouple. A faulty one will read zero or 9v. The monitor is $250 and the thermocouple only $50. Monitors should be replaced every 7 years. Hope this helps you diagnose why your fridge won’t stay lit. My monitor was a model 9SS over 12 years old.
I'm guessing you measure the voltage beteen the plug and the housing or fridge chassis? Is there a way to bypass it for testing? Can you also tell me the pressure required to run the fridge? Thanks for the great video!
I have a very similar fridge.. A manual I foung on line says " 11 inches WC". {water column).. I've used a regulator and hose assembly from a propane bbq.. To run the fridge.. Works fine.. The bbq regulator was stamped 10 inches wc... Just for info purposes.. It takes mine approx 3 hours to cool down from "startup" to operating temps.. Fridge... 5 degree C... Freezer. Minus 4 degree C
Don’t even have one of this fridges but still stayed and watched this video.😂 good job man
Thank you so much for this video! You’re a great teacher and I’m going to follow all your instructions to try to fix my old off grid propane fridge!

You should be using yellow tape made specifically for propane. I think the white is made for water\plumbing.

That teflon tape doesn't look like yellow gas teflon tape.
Always use propane Teflon. Never never use white Teflon
I just bought one it like new i paid 375.00
Teflon tape for propane is yellow . Just sayin
