If you plan to include Chronicles characters while wanting to stay consistent to the 19th century setting, I suggest them cross-examining a librarian regarding what books each characters borrowed. Soseki might fit the role due to his love of books....or Herlock for maximum chaos possible. But it is your work. Do whatever you want.
