Can't beat a well organized van. Can't understand how people manage with all of their gear just flung in the back! Being organized saves time and in turn increases profit etc.
Yep, my own van LOOKS a mess to outsiders... but the racking contains the stuff that is permanent. Other boxes and things are in the central aisle (as seen on Tom's vans, but smaller due to being a transit connect)... they're temporary. I got AMAZINGLY lucky with the van.. my fibreglass ladder fits with a roof clamp UPSIDE DOWN on the inside of the roof of the van. Clamp hooked through one of the roof crossmembers. Great spacesaver for a smaller van
Tom, just a thought every time you open the back door if it’s raining the mcbs/rcd’s are going to get a bit of water in them after a while they will become useless, maybe a plastic cover over them ?
Good call, had an MCB fail due to rust (water ingress from being stored before fitting). Fortunately the design is fairly robust, and they tend to fail 'safe' (won't reset) rather than jamming ON... but still sub optimal.
I will point out this, Some if not most customers love seeing a trades person or a company who takes pride in their appearance or vehicles, it tells someone you are organised and mean business.
Tom been watching you for the past Couple of years glad to see the regular content back and fair play with all you are doing.... Boy done good I'd say👍👍👍
I really appreciate the organisation in that van, super tidy and everything has a place. Also love the high spec of the driver cab. Never seen a contractor van with full leather before, proper posh !. Ive been in some vans where you have needed a full Hazmat suit before entering, but yours is lovely !. Guess you didnt consider an auto then ?, if i was still working in london i would definitely have an auto. You loose a few mpg, but saves those hips in traffic !.
Organisation in the work van is great. Im currently sorting mine out and fine tuning bits and pieces. It makes a massive difference as you aren’t looking all through your van for that 1 item
Speaking from experience as a electrical contractor we went with standard vinyl with Carhartt seat covers after the first apprentice got in the van with a screwdriver in his pocket the wrong way and a big rip appeared great truck though good luck on them
great to see your back in the groove with uploads and nice to see all your hard work starting to pay off PS. I also have a shit drawer at least that's what the wife calls my shed.
Vans looking 🔥 although those back doors are just begging for some livery. Overall love the low key livery a lot of trade vans are littered with way too much stuff 👍
I tend to go David Savery style, if you have anything you want people to see, slap it on the bulkhead rather than the outside of the vehicle. Then you can smile at them as they stare at your pornhub 'uber user' plaque...
Hi Tom, just a 2 questions, What brand of PTT radio are you using? How do you charge your battery generator's? Do they charge when your engine is running? Thank you for the great videos.
Tom, actually the leather seating is actually a smart upgrade... easier to clean and keep clean... leather doesn't stain and is more durable than cloth....and may improve its value when you go to sell/upgrade.
Tom the eyewash kit would be more cost effective if you got the small capsules instead of the large bottles as once the bottle is opened it's probably not going to be sterile any more. The capsules are easier to direct into the eye. Essential bit of kit as you only get one pair of eyes.
Love the comment about an eyewash station; you never know when you'll need one until you do. On that note, do you have a first aid kit/defib on the van? Maybe not on the smaller ones but I could see it being useful in the bucket truck; working in the trades and especially with electricity you might be well placed (heavens forbid) to use a defib, even though they are expensive.
I have the same van but longer the body version. I have had some custom seat covers made for it and i love them so much i have a seat cover for my seat cover on the drivers side !
I actually passed the UK's most famous Bucket truck last evening whilst on a magically sat Nav inspired mystery tour of London 🙄 Must say it looked the absolute dogs bollocks though, the branding is on point
Like it Like your design outside, nice and simple, not to much trash writing, It’s well organized and peaceful to work from. The quality of work can sometimes be taken from how organized truck is. A organized truck means attention to detail, sometimes it’s difficult to keep it clean after a difficult install or service call, this is from a person that works for Security and fire alarm company in USA.
I agree about having a backpack, I have a McAllister backpack and it has all my usual bits, screwdrivers, etc, can never go back to any other type of tool bag
Great piece of kit, love all the storage units, that hand wash station is genius. What's wrong with tele-steps incidentally?, I use them all the time, mostly because they're so quick and easy to grab out the van.
I was very confused by the intro music as I had just finished watching a Lawful Masses video and they have used that theme music for years. Oh, and really nice van set up!
Might be worth getting chapter 8 chevrons on the back of the bucket truck bucket. It’s all good having it on the van but if there blocked by the bucket they are useless.
Nice tour, nice van :) Are the yellow light on top enough for highway work or do you have (or are you allowed) to fit more (backwards strobes for example) for better visibility?
Was wondering about the radio system... thought it was PMR... being 4G is a killer for us, we're in southern hampshire, loads of 'shite signal areas' around :(... or does the system work better with that, having an external aerial? Colleague managed to break my adjustable stool the first time I said 'look what i got'... managed to get the little lugs to pop out of their slots... :\ He's a bit of a bull in a china shop. RE MR16s, we tend to delete the Tx and MR16 holder and simply fit a GU10 holder and LED lamp (assuming it's a decent fire rated can) With regard to the EICR thing... i laughed at wiping your feet on the way OUT... true... And the eco thing of dumping the handwashing stuff down onto the road... I personally am very environmentally concious...I even considered joining the green party. But they need to get a grip. Washing your hands produces far less dirt that washing your car and the stuff running into the road (which ALWAYS happens) Bigger problems in the world my eco warrior friends. (I know there will be people who hate ecowarriors... i don't, but sometimes their heart's in the right place and their mind... well.. who knows) All the e-waste that happens because nobody has the ability or knowledge to repair stuff anymore is more of an issue imo
great video and description. Im currently racking out a combo Vauxhall, reactive maintenance etc. Love the vice idea, any chance of a link to where I could source that extension pull out vice? KEEP THE VIDS COMING, GREAT SOURCE OF INFORMATION!!!
I think that package you have here with the Renault Trafic really is the ultimate Van. You said they come with 160hp so I assume that you got the 2.0 dCi diesel engine in them which honestly is one of the best Diesels you can get here in Europe apart from Volkswagens 3.0 TDI V6 but they cant be arsed to put that one in commercial vehicles except for the VW Amarok. Which is pretty overpriced and underspeced for a Pick Up so most people buy Nissan, Toyota and Isuzu.

Tom might be an idea to get dash cam in the vans just incase anything happens. Speaking from experience :)
It looks like he already does. From about 02:50 onwards, and in the closeup of the radio, you can see what appears to be a dashcam on the windscreen.
Unexpected B.Js should be filmed.
£120 for nextbase camera and hardwiring kit and yea, would likely help with insurance policies too!
