I think it's what used to be called "Talking Blues." Arlo Guthrie is a master of it.
That brings tough love to a new level!
This is old school country. A lot of older country songs have this style, where the story is told in more of a talking formatthann just singing.
Johnny did this rendition at a frenetic pace. I'm used to the slower version.
Потрясающе.
Another great spoken style Johnny Cash song with a great message is Don't Take Your Guns To Town.
His song man in black is a must hear. Very deep and very relevant even today.
Johnny Sings😎 a very descriptive Ballad..
This song was written by the author shel Silverstein he wrote some great books ✌️
This is actually called a country style Talkin' Blues. Great reaction!
There is a a better version where Johnny sings it to prisoners at San Quentin. It was his first version. In fact he had to read parts of it because he said he had several versions that he rewrote. The prisoners loved it.
That's my favorite version.
I'm with you, Mug. He sure was rapping here! That tempo was crazy fast though. Other times he's played this it's quite a bit slower than this. I'm sure someone has mentioned it by now, but he performed a concert in a prison - I wanna say San Quentin but not positive. He does this song and several others. It's killer. Never was a big Johnny Cash fan until the past decade or so. Legend
All songs told a story
It is really amazing, how much crossover in music genres there is, and the further you go down this journey, it becomes really clear, there is not much difference, from one side of the earth to the other!!!
Great reaction; TY! 👍👍
Thank you, I had so forgotten how much I like Johnny Cash, please review more of his stuff, he always has such a good message in his songs.
Johnny is a story teller and there are a few.
A storyteller that can make you cry is a man named Red Sovine Start with Teddy Bear or Phantom 309.
May your channel be blessed, and grow.
The Blind Man in the Bleachers. Kenny Starr. (Have the tissues ready).
My favorite by Red Sovine is "Giddy-Up-Go"! That is always the one I recommend first, but Teddy Bear is right up there too! Thank you for mentioning it to him and I hope he reads our messages and listens to our suggestions! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
Приятная музыка)))))
I actually remember the first time was my Dad singing and playing guitar, he played this and Johnny Paycheck's Take This Job and Shove It
1:50 the more I see of your actions, the more I really like them, I think what hooked me in the first time was in Elvis Presley reaction but I have watched easily six or seven by now and yeah the most iconic performance of this is when he performed it at either San Quentin or Folsom Prison, I think Folsom Prison, he did multiple concerts in prisons and he actually did a short stint in one himself. But I remember watching him on TV with my dad when I was a kid and later when I became a player and a honky tonk band not really loved his stuff and I like basically everything he's done very many decades. Talk about a rabbit hole.
But anyway, I take exception to the fact that you're saying well you can't describe it like y'all probably want me to but you're describing in terms of cadence and flow and believe me man, that's exactly how I think of it even though I'm 60 years old but I've been around so much music including a lot of rap, and I think that even stuff that is a lot less obvious than this, whether it's Old Country singing where they phrase like way off the beat for storytelling and emotional impact, like George Jones day, and so forth, it is all about Flo and bars and double entendre and switching it up and all the things that we think about today with rap. So I love when you draw those parallels personally. Go for it man, I'm really enjoying your reactions for sure.
Johnny Cash did name his baby boy John Carter ✌️❤️
Подсветка огонь
Great 👍 I love itv
You are doing great and it is rap of a sort....love watching you
I was brought up on this song. My sister is called sue because of this song.
First time I remember hearing it was on the radio in the garage while I was watching my dad work on the car (1970?) I was five or six💃
Какая красивая музыка
Исполнил классно
Super 🎉 Perfect 👍🏻
very cool transmission
You got to A Boy Named Sue. ..oh yeah lol. This is a great one. Thanks Mugs!! 🔥💜
This is a style known today as “talking blues”. It goes way back before blues and country, back when “folk music” was just music played by folks. A great example is Todd Sneider’s “Talkin’ Seattle Grunge Rock Blues”.
I first heard this song in 1969. The summer of Woodstock. I was 9 years old.
The original "tough love" song.
The original last like line was "Im gonna name him...... BILL! GEORGE! ANYTHING BUT SUE!" ;)
I liked your reaction to this song.
I am a long time Johnny Cash fan and he has got some awesome songs.
In regards to your comment about there not being a lot of songs about fathers.
I'd like to recommend that you check out these awesome father related songs.... He Didn't Have to Be by Brad Paisley, That's My Job by Conway Twitty, Love Without End, Amen by George Strait, Watching You by Rodney Adkins and Tough Little Boys by Gary Allan.
Майкл, ты в наших сердцах)
Subscribed found you one of the most honest reactors/ Country folk
Крутое исполнение
I remember it on the radio in 1969 all the time when i was a kid - it was a #1 country hit..
Very good

Amazing
Вы супер
Good old country music
Yesss
Интересное исполнение 😎😎😎.
Great Reaction 👍🙏👣
You need to listen to the radio version now that you heard him live! It's better, I think! Great reaction!
To me it's old school, country ballad where they tell a story.
This song was written by the same author that wrote the children's book The giving tree . Shel Silverstein. A damned legend .
Yes
I call it a story song which country has a ton of,
Отличная музыка
We call it country. Country doesn't have to be in one little box. It doesn't have to be sad and it doesn't have to be my woman left me and took my dog with her and it doesn't even have to be all singing, it can be talking, but it's still country. Dolly Parton does several songs where she talks the lyrics through part of the song, "I Will Always Love you" for one and "Coat of Many Colors" for another but they are country. Johnny flat ripped everyone's heart out with his version of "Hurt" and that was country. "Boy Named Sue" makes you smile and it's still country. He has two other songs I can think of right off the bat that will make you smile, "One Piece at a Time" and "The One on the Left is On the Right". He also has great story telling songs like "Cisco Clifton's Fillin' Station" and "Here Comes that Rainbow Again" and "Sunday Morning Comin' Down" and they are all COUNTRY.
The birth of country
A good "dad" song is by Brad Paisley and titled "He Didn't Have To Be". He has some great songs that have a lot of humor in them too. "I'm Gonna Miss Her", "Celebrity", "Ticks" and many more but I recommend watching the official videos because they're very funny. Johnny Cash has a song called "I've Been Everywhere" that I feel you would like based upon your reaction to this one.
George strait- Love Without End
Another classic by Johnny... one piece at a time....
i grew up listening to johnny Cash and he was one of my favorite artists. still listen to him from time to time even though my tastes in music have shifted more towards heavy metal. he has lots of great songs and it would take to long to list them all to you. some are silly "One Piece at a Time" while others like "Hurt" that you already reacted to are far more serious.
but yeah as others have said already its that old school Country story telly style
(side note would love to see you react to some 'Sabaton' as they are one of my go to bands now days)
This was a very different version than the one I'm used to, you should view the original at San Quentin Prison, this version sounded more like the rap you are talking about, this was not the way it was originally intended! It was played too fast and so he had to sing it faster. Please check out the other version! Thank you!
I truly like his versions that is a little slower.. but I will always love thiis song
Супер!
You are right. Not enough songs about fathers.
Great react and insights - I haven't heard much Johnny Cash before either so I'm going on this adventure with ya!
As far as other react content I think you would have a good time with "Atmosphere - The Waitress" or his "Yesterday" if you've never heard 'em!
😊😊😊Love your reaction!!!
Thank you!! 😁
Your creativity is great
Please also do the San Quentin. Prison version live video which has a slower cadence ,love this song
This was written by the fabulous Shell Silverstein( many Dr Hook hits, The Giving Tree ect)
Приятнооо просмотра
Сколько драйва !😂

Veru good
Хоорошая реакция
First time I heard this I was a little kid. It was a long car trip with my dad and i rifled through his old tapes. I was about 7. I absolutely loved it. As for music style, it's old school country. I think by today's standards it would be considered alt folk. I'd also suggest checking out El Paso by Marty Robbins, real ooold school.

Liked and subscribed! This is only the second reaction of yours that I have watched, but I can really relate to how you view songs..... the flow , change up , hook , cadence and all that , a good beat is a good beat, no matter the genre.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
It's just country you should listen to Phantom 409 and teddy bear
Все круто
Увлеченный молодой человек
The style is called "Talking Blues" (although really just rap): Two other great examples are "Hot Rod Lincoln" (Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen) and "Uneasy Rider" by Charlie Daniels. Great Channel. Thanks.
Супер
The original country rap. Outlaw music!
To hear more of Johnny actually singing, try our 'Ring of fire' or 'Walk the line'. This one & 'Hurt' are great for different reasons, however, they do not showcase his voice. LOL He used to end the song with 'I'm gonna name my son Bill or John or anything but Sue'. This time he said 'John Carter' because that was his real sons name by this point.
Круто)
🤗yes
The giving tree works in interesting ways.
