    Always cut trees between 6-8 meter lengths! That’s what’s worth the most, and also why you don’t get paid very well for a load of full length trees…

  • @norsehawk
    @norsehawk 4 місяці тому +34

    Personally, I'd drill the field you created from the forest with grass, that way you can still work on it without destroying the crop, and it provides a clean area to manage trees, the grass of course can be used for silage and sheep food

      @@DoctorFish10 I started with just mowing the meadow grass, turned to silage, then immediately turned the field into ariable crops. I bought my second plot on Day 3, same thing mowed the meadow grass, silage now end of Day 5, ready to sell that lot. When I get sheep, I will keep some of the meadow grass from a new field for the sheep. I am not planting grass or waiting for meadow grass to grow again to mow it a second time.
      And I have bought all my soil samples, a basic lime spreader, got my PH to perfect on 2 plots, seeded mostly soybeans, but some wheat, and rolled the seed bed. Those 2 plots are now just growing so back to tree work for me unless I do buy my 3rd plot on the 6th game day, then its mowing the initial grass again and getting some fields in.

  • @wcrb15

    You can buy the soil information from the map. It's slightly more expensive, but I look at it like I paid some expert to come scan my fields for me

    • @klonkimo
      @klonkimo 4 місяці тому +4

      Max value if everything is plowed, not sure if that's the case. I prefer that too, but I haven't done a survival map save, heck I started a new one on Calm Lands and first thing I did was sell everything and find all the collectibles 😂

    • @klonkimo
      @klonkimo 4 місяці тому +4

      Basically if they do that, that removes value from clearing more trees in that plot, and corners them into buying another plot, which money and lack of equipment is their problem. Getting the equipment is a more permanent solution that enables them to expand progressively by working from the ground up.

    • @MrGeneralScar
      @MrGeneralScar 4 місяці тому +2

      side note, if you have only plowed/created a field on part of the field, it will charge you for that portion, you will have to buy soil samples again for the new field on the same plot, but it will only charge you for the difference. My samples for 1st 2 fields (like what Dagger and Chainsaw now have seeded) was about 1800. I have now bought my second plot, and extended a field, so I bought samples for that field, for 1500, then when I created a 3rd field in the rest of that plot I had to buy samples again but they only charged me 500 for it.

    Hey guys.
    Dont worry about the repetitive nature of cutting trees. Our forfathers cleared forests to create land for crops. It wasnt easy work and it didnt pay well. They wouldve sown their first fields by hand. This series will remind us where we came from. Patience and hard work with basic tools.
    Go for it Chainsaw and Daggers!

    Well, i feel like you 2 should maybe sell the both of the small Trailers that you have, and replace them with a Logging Trailer.
    Also, you could use the Cultivator to mark the Propertyborders you have currently, making it easier to estimate how much wood you can still take

  • @MrGeneralScar
    @MrGeneralScar 4 місяці тому +2

    I would recommend investing in a forage wagon, simple windrow, and mower, as well as a cheap silage pit. When you buy your next field mow the meadow grass as it has no effect with precision farming on the nitrogen level on your first crop of the land. Soybeans will always be over nitrogen target, most other crops will be at 0 nitrogen levels, or at max 10kg nitrogen which for the most part is way below what other crops want and you need more.
    I mowed the meadow grass on the 1st plot for the area of the two fields that Dagger and chainsaw had now, on Day 3 I sold the silage for about 100,000. I bought the second field and immediately mowed all the meadow grass. Next game day (January Year 2) I am ready to sell that, and it will give me close to 140,000 in profit. Enough to buy the 3rd field, and mow the meadow grass and probably get chickens too, maybe even a storinator silo in that budget as well. I think the first purchase will be a stump grinder though.
    I have just completed December, which I think is Day 5. And I am playing solo, which means I have half the efficiency, although I am playing a bit more of the game day, about 12 hours play (in game time) but my game time is always on 6x. I noticed Daggerwin changes the game time every episode. 1st Ep it was 5x, second and 3rd it was 6x, now its 3x.
    So to be at the end of Day 5, and be contemplating buying a 3rd plot I feel like I am a reasonable amount ahead. I have all soybeans except 1 field which is wheat (food for the upcoming chicken farm)

    Love this series idea! Always a slow start from zero, but you'll have more work than both of you can do in no time. I'm excited to see it! I think it would be cool to set a goal so we know how things are progressing and the series has a definitive arc to it. That's my only suggestion.
    Keep it coming!

    Still think the left side of the forest over the bridge would make for a great yard area , it is raised up from the new field on the right and looks like it feeds onto the bridge nicely.

    When cutting trees, you should probably have someone cutting and stacking and let the other person load and cart the logs back. Alternatively, get one of them logging winches for pulling the trees out as they are cut to have the other person cut and stack.

    The reason thar orange forestry mulcher has such a high power requirement is because it doubles up as a subsoiler/plow. If you run it in the ground it will create a new field, which will obviously bog down the tractor in terms of power.

I'm planning on just cultivating the patches in the grass and replanting as grass to get rid of it.

    Just a thought, but what if you guys sold one tractor and its attachments and bought a counterweight for the other one as well as a self loading logging trailer and one of you cuts down trees while the other picks up the felled trees and takes them to the sell point? Could make a pretty good amount of money quicker than what you are doing now? When the time comes, take the tractor to work on the fields while the other fells trees.
    Just a thought is all.
