"Pick of the Day" - 1953 Gibson Les Paul Custom and Maz 38 Senior

  • Today we have special one for you, one of the earliest Gibson Les Paul Customs, from very late 1953! This one is in fantastic condition for its age, with a bit of wear and some marks but otherwise fantastic. Starting its life with low frets, these ones have been played even lower but as you'll see in the demo, it still plays great. A combination of P90 in the bridge and Alnico V pickup in the neck, you've got a lot of tones to choose from. This guitar looks so cool with its black finish, gold hardware, and nicely aged binding... it all comes together in its old age. For the demo we're using a Dr Z Maz Senior head with a 1962 Fender Bandmaster cabinet, and putting it all in the hands of our talented friend Nick Mardon!
    For more information about the guitar or amp, please check out:

    Awesome indeed. When ... when is Gibson or Epiphone going to make a proper reissue of this? With a proper DEEP DISH CARVE! I can't speak for the rest of you, but my whole loins are craving for this to happen. Demo shop guys please! Sneakily set the CNC to deep dish carve for the love of humanity and send us the grail with staple goodness.. triple staple black beauty w bigsby! Big love from Australian Byron Bay band - The Minky's ❤

      Meh, I’m not bothered. I have one 3 pup guitar, a St Vincent and the middle pup interfere with fast picking.
      I just bought a 2010 re-issue and it keeps my loins happy.

    • @davidkieltyka9
      @davidkieltyka9 5 років тому +1

      All Things 11 AFAIK it’s uncertain whether or not there were any LP Customs shipped in 1953, though there may’ve been a small number made. The earliest ones, as stated in this video, don’t have a serial number, adding to the uncertainty.
      Duchossoir’s Gibson book states the Customs were introduced in ‘54…but the book is over 20 years old now and may lack info uncovered since publication.

    • @hkguitar1984
      @hkguitar1984 5 років тому +1

      @@davidkieltyka9 & All Things 11
      Yeah, early model builds can sometimes be difficult to surmise as far as what was actually happening with the Factory and Gibson in general.
      Still a very cool guitar, and like the early Les Paul Standards, no serial numbers.
      I'm just trying to put myself in the mind-set of Gibson's management back in 1953. Like I said, how could it be justified as a good idea to ship early Goldtops and Black Beauties with no serial numbers!

    • @davidkieltyka9
      @davidkieltyka9 5 років тому +1

      HK Guitar My guess is the lack of serial number tracks with the ill-suited trapeze bridge/tailpiece that required wrapping the strings under rather than over the bridge: Gibson didn’t expect the LP to sell and so didn’t care about such details.
