These budget/garage builds are infinitely more interesting than the high end stuff.

@@flipped68 do it, the most aftermarket of any car I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned Toyota’s, 80’s git’s, the bug always had a kit or part for anything I needed.
@phxxr650r This is absolutely a budget build relative to some of the other trucks show on Terra. You could build this bug for just the cost of the front shocks on Nick Isenhouer's F150

For some reason this is one of my favorite builds you guys have shown. Probably for it’s simplicity and the fact it can shred!

PERFECT realistic Blue Collar Build every guy can relate. I remeber when it wasnt like " Ooo i have 13" and 17" of travel as if thats not enough. lol. my first race truck weighed more and had les travel.. this chasing the number game is outa control. Nice Build...

These are the guys and builds who really matter. They show what’s achievable for the money / skills / tooling of the average car guy. The mega bucks pro builds are great but this is the stuff to motivate you to go build your own. Big respect to you guys.

I can’t wait to have the cash to build one for my wife! Her dream vehicle is an old vw bug , but I’m from California, her Costa Rica and I showed her my high school 92 yota single cab long travel prerunner & then a long travel vw bug and she melted!😍 Now this is her dream vw bug if feasible ( God willing) 🙏🏽

I don't know anything about this stuff, but seeing how that rig handled those whoops I think I'd be more than happy with that setup, especially at what seems to me like a very reasonable price for the front suspension.
As much as I love a beam setup, that's a nice looking front suspension.

3L V6 is overkill, but I guess it skips needing a turbo !

Hell yea!!! Love the front suspension. Building a budget Baja bug myself. Using a J35 A6 Honda engine with an 091 bus transaxle.

Baja bugs have always been very bad ass in the capability department!
I live in western oregon and been running deep rutted mud roads for 30 years. Running big tired full sized,or Toyotas.,jeeps. I have witnessed good running bajas with 31 s and a heavy right foot handle obsticals that 44 inch tired 400plus hp rigs can't touch! This build is very very cool! I want one!

Hey, you guys, I just want to tell you thank you, hopes and dreams, one day to have a Baja Bug, and I'm going to save this video because you definitely got yours dialed in!!!
Every time you guys post a baja bug vid it makes me want to sell my prerunner for one!
My husband had given up on his dream to do a build, but then he saw this. He’s 66, on disability, goes to the VA for his medical care, and spends most of his days counting the “specks” on the bedroom ceiling or “tubing”. He basically has no mechanical skills as his career was in the medical profession. Money is tight, and meds are expensive, but this MIGHT be doable. We’ll see.

Nice build, love the front suspension, I used to build long travel rails. This looks to be a good middle of the road build that the average guy can afford! good call on a reasonable size tire to save the trans. Very cool ride!

Takes me back to when to when my dad and I did a similar build in the early 2000s. Almost same setup just 3 seater, fuel cell up front, and a 3.2 vtech. Still yellow and ripping around ocotillo wells.

Amazing how that bug rips with just a 002 transaxle. Of course the weak point is the transition from Forward gears to Reverse. Weddle makes some reasonably priced upgrades to make the 002 more durable under the more ham-fisted shifters occupying the LH seat.

My dad had a few Bugs when I grew up, I had a Type III.
That is probably one of the coolest bugs I've seen.
Very cool bug! I agree with the other comments, love the more home built stuff. I am far from the safety police, but you need a firewall in the back. If you get rear ended or break a hose, Oh man! ....Ask anyone with coolant burns.

Metric motors in Centerville UTAH has some knowledge on the Honda V6 they have quite a bit of experience with them putting them in sand rails

I have completely changed my mind about building a prerunner truck... im gonna build one of these now.
Killer car man! Looks like alot of fun. I didn't know a type 2 IRS trans could take that kind of power. I've been thinking of building a fun (80-100hp) street car and that'll save a bunch of money, being able to run a bus trans rather than performance aftermarket stuff.
Spoiler... It can't... Trans is a ticking time bomb. The rest of the car is alot of sound decisions and put together very well. 60 year old vw transaxles... not so much... Nice build again. 10 years ago I had your faith in vw transaxles. Weddle was the best money I ever spent.
80-100hp it can handle. That honda gonna go bad the first time it catches hard traction when it wasn't expecting to.
I've had two Baja bugs in my youth and I used to drive it in the pouring rain with no troubles while other cars were stranded on the side of the road. I just kept it simple and reliable. It was a blast to drive!
Maybe something to think about, way back when, some went the square back route for the storage capacity.
For what it is, it's PERFECT.

In Germany we would never be alowed to drive like this....there is the TÜV, its the control instance in our country and they are pretty strict 😬😅

Just watched this video on .5 speed so I can get a decent look at the suspension setup up front. At that speed, y'all sound sooooo drunk it's hilarious. Slow it to .25 speed and y'all are completely WASTED!... just watch the part just before the bachelor party...you'll see.
