    If I didn't know anything about Elden Ring I'd assume this was all done by the developers. You've done such a phenomenal job that you actually made the Crucible Knights all the more interesting than they already are.

    So he is the captain of the knight, that mean he is second command after Godfrey right? Man If this is alternative lore story for this mod, I would say Godfrey is so to they knights.// But I which at the First phase If we use Godfrey axe or Wear Godfrey Armor, Captain will try to resist dead root so we have time to attack for a time to time. And the in 2 phase after he clear all death root he will do Bow for thank us and challenging us as a real Captain of Titan

    I would like to share with you my vision of the lore of the Knights who were supposed to RETURN WITH GODFREY as he returns from exile WITH his most loyal warriors. These warriors should be called LOST GRACE KNIGHTS and they should be located in the final location of the game - Leyndell, Ashen Capital. These should be unique enemies that do not respawn - something like mini-bosses. They should be 20% larger than the Crucible Knights and they should have special, heavily ruined (but very elite) armor, because they are Godfrey's main retinue. Their armor should be shining gold but badly worn and half-destroyed. They should have a move set something like the Crucible Knights, but more aggressive and skillful. They often use attacks related to grace and fire and they have magical wings. There should be a total of 6 knights at the location.
    1) With sword and shield
    2) With a huge sword
    3) With a spear and shield
    4) With a huge spear/halberd/glaive (optional)
    5) With two curved / hammers / flails (optional)
    6) With two claws

    Would've been interesting seeing some crucible knight with wings sprouting out of a ram like horn in it's helmet by the nature of the crucible

    3:54 no, that's a reskin. Don't try to complex lingo around what is clearly obvious. No amount of fire effects is going to hide how mirrored the boss' moveset is to normal crucible knights. The effects will certainly make the fight more interesting though, will give you that.

      I made the fight so naturally I am biased. But I am curious at what point something stops being a reskin. As a disclaimer, Creta was my first ever boss and at the time I did genuinely not know how to retarget (make other characters' animations work on her), and if I knew how, I would've totally given her other animations. So it was a skill issue moreso than just creative vision.
      Is that the threshold? Having new animations?
      What about changing the AI of the boss? Bc I changed (within limit) a lot of their combos and added alternate versions of existing attacks (like two different sword drags, one fire/one not with different tracking and root motion to incentivize different player responses. Although this was before I started making my completely new AI code for bosses so it only changes an existing base. Does creating new projectiles count? The fire AoE is a really simple one, but the transition bullet is a decently complex bullet and is, I'd say, to an extent unique. I drew inspiration from Spearcaller Ritual for it so I would lie if I said I just thought about the idea randomly.
      Adding delays/root motion multipliers etc. in existing animations is probably too insignificant for them to count. It's fine if you call the boss a reskin, I'm happy with how much I've learnt making it and how much I like fighting it, but as a person that doesn't rly play mods or spends time around these communities, I do genuinely not know what counts as a reskin or not lol. Either way I do think Garden's tone when talking about Creta was unnecessarily defensive. Sorry for the wall of text, just asking for feedback I guess.

      I apologize if I came across as rude before. I'm always interested in discussing boss design, and I appreciate you opening up the conversation about what makes a boss feel distinct from a reskin.
      I agree with your starting point: a reskin is essentially a palette swap on an existing asset. This can make the boss feel uninspired and repetitive, especially for experienced players who have already faced similar enemies. While alterations can be effective, as you've shown with your impressive work, sometimes they're not enough to overcome the underlying identity of the base enemy.
      The Erdtree Avatar is a good example of this. While the light beam attacks add a new wrinkle, the core gameplay loop remains largely unchanged from the Asylum Demon. This can lead to players feeling like they've already seen and conquered this challenge, even if the timing windows are slightly different. And the fact there's light beams here and there.
      In your Creta design, I can see that you've taken the approach of building upon the existing Crucible Knight foundation. This is a smart starting point, as the Crucible Knights are well-established enemies with a distinct visual identity and moveset. However, I believe that focusing solely on adding fire attacks and stomps might not be enough to differentiate Creta from its brethren. In fact, at times, it feels like Creta is walking around leaking gasoline, burning my screen with orange. It doesn't vibe with arena as crimson is chucked around like confetti.
      I think an extended moveset is integral in differentiating the boss from the generic enemy. Sp yes... Expand the moveset beyond simply reusing existing Crucible Knight animations. Introducing new attacks or combos that chain together in unique ways would give Creta its own combat identity.Consider how Creta's abilities tie into its lore or backstory. Is it a fire-wielding general, a corrupted Crucible Knight, or something else entirely? Leaning into its unique narrative can help to inform its combat design.Think about environmental interactions. Can Creta utilize the arena in interesting ways? Perhaps it can summon flaming pillars or trigger environmental hazards, adding a new layer of strategic depth to the fight.
      Or perhaps maybe instead of, for example, using the crucible fire breathing spell as it is, Creta does the small on a small scale. She breathes the fire at the player and player dodges. Depending on if the player dodges back or to the side, she can reorient herself, unfurl her wings and flap them to push the flames(in a line) forward at the player. As the player adjusts, Creta can then surprise them eith the Onyx lords staggering swing attack.
      That's not to say a moveset must expansively be overhauled to pull the boss away from reskin.
      Remember Gael and Beastman of Farum Azula? Same moves, right? But Gael throws them in with this primal fury, like a hurricane compared to Beastman's deadly ballet.
      When you look at beastman, the swagger he has makes it easier for us to detach him from Gael, which allows us to be receptive to other things he does like the chomping and the claw swipe. In this case, the moveset having its unique, shall we say grace, grace allows for us to pull away from just pointing and screaming "GAEL!!!".
      You can change the timing and A.I script lf Malenia but the fact she will swing her sword as stiffly(prosthetic sparks when she about to swing, usually) as she normally does doesnt make it any different for me, in reality. I'll dodge the attack all the same, even if timing switched up if the way she swings and approaches still the same, despite differing scripts. I hope you get what I meam.
      Here is something you can do that could help improve your boss, in my casual opinion. Take Varg from Thymesia, A Crucible Knight, Tower Knight from Dark Souls,and maybe Laxasia phase 1 from Lies of P. Start with 3 moves from the crucible knight then try to incorporate one unique swing from each of the following bosses before capping off with a magic blast.

      @@notdeus3834 Hmm, this is an incredibly well put together response, thank you very much! Later on I did start doing exactly what you're describing towards the end (making completely new combinations of attacks on bosses like the Godskin Dragonslayer or Devonia and Cambria), but at the time that I made Creta I didn't even know that was a possibility (or would've considered it necessary, really). The extremely positive reaction the Dragonslayer got really made me change this perspective though. Also some of your bullet/attack ideas are really really cool. Unfortunately with the current workflow I'm not sure when, if ever even, I might have enough time to revisit Creta, but I do want them to be a reflection of the quality I bring with other bosses as well. We also won't do animations from non-souls games as far as I am aware.
      The fire AoEs for Creta are all meant to be jumped over (even the transition fire rain will not hit you if you jump at the right time) and if you do that, you get huge punish windows. I imagine this ended up being maybe a bit unintuitive for players (since other jumpable stomps usually look a lot flatter). Revisiting Creta one day would be really cool, though I have to admit, after Cambria and Devonia I'm a little bit tired of making knights. Naturally next boss will be a giant sorcery-casting squid.
      And don't worry about being rude, I appreciate honesty and you were being fair and true to your beliefs.

    I'm curious. Even though this is just awesome seeing these 4 Crucible Knight bosses along with the Commander here. There's just one thing that feels missing. You said back in the Creta video that there would be 16 unique Crucible Knight bosses. I'm curious where the other 12 are.
    Aside from that nitpick. This is just awesome.

    Would love to ask you to do a Hoarah Loux bossfight but with more reallistic move pacing. What I mean to say is, is there a way to change his awkward anime move pause whenever he does his moves but still be balanced?

    at first im like, turn it off? thats like mindlessly making it harder, no good. Then as I watched, and noticed how there is strangely enough gap for dodge and counter in between the attacking knights.... ah man. Great stuff, its like you are ahead of fromsoft, the players really know best.
