- Cuphead - Chef Saltbaker Final Boss (Expert, S Rank, No Damage) This was my run of Chef Saltbaker on Expert with an S rank and no damage. Chef Saltbaker is the final boss of DLC Island in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course.
The fact that a salt shaker is harder than satan himself is mind-blowing
Idk man I still think the devil and king dice are harder
I guess you could say he’s one salty boss.
@@papelhat4265 king dice certainly isn’t. the minibosses aren’t challenging at all and his actual fighting phase is very easily completed / cheated.
The devil is a hard fight but I honestly think Chef Saltbaker is harder
@@ethanisdrowning Not everyone is the same. People take 67 tries to beat sans while I can beat him on my first try
Fact:He is the real satan of the game
The animation in this is genuinely amazing, I feel like I’m watching an old Disney movie.
A very twisted one. Plus, the animation here exceeds the quality of even those, at least in this one fight.
That 2nd stage gives me major Coachman vibes from Pinnochio.
worth 4 years
I really love that they changed animation style for this fight
Aw hell nah chef Louis went too far
Cuphead. The only game where a salt chef is more terrifying than the Devil himelf
I mean, the salt itself is devilish for the eyes and wounds.
They want to burn you and then have you pay extra to put salt in your wounds and make sure that it leaves you salty
I actually had more trouble fighting the devil than with this guy
@@TheRealMagicMan yes, because you are better at the game now, you were fighting this guy AFTER you defeated all of the bosses, so you obviously gained experience
When you think about it, a chef in a world full of sentient food would be considered monster
I expected saltbaker to be the boss, but more like "In order to achieve this power, you must defeat me and prove yourself!" Instead of "I murder people for the sheer thrill and power."
Apparently, as he said in the epilogue, the power got to his head. Just the idea of baking the wondertart and making his "finest work" drove him mad.
@@thedankgnasty1890 yes he wanted to be the best baker and when he saw the powers of the wondertart he constructed a plan
The first idea seems more fitting honestly
@@ellisp276 I think he was already the best baker, but yeah
Bro said: "I kill people because its funny"
I would've beat this guy much faster if I didn't keep getting distracted by the background animations that put multi-million dollar studios to shame.
I think that is the point to have you multitask and then they get you
No wonder it took half a decade to finish. Quality like this takes time.
This studio has officially beaten Disney in terms of animation. Disney's former claim to fame.
Did you ever get told all of the game's animations were hand-drawn?
@@pacifistichuman82649cuphead has more bosses than average game, i cant imagine the budget it took for the animation
Fun fact : the developer have to mortgage his own property just to make this masterpiece. It left me speechless- i can't imagine this man's dedication on funny old disney game
i adore how lovingly they animated the limes and sugar cube boy being slaughtered
Also the dough
And the juicy lemons.
@@arthurluna6189 What lemons lol
In phase 1, he’s abusing his food
@@ItsAOnyx R.I.P those ingredients
I love the magic sparkles wherever he brutally murders (or steals from) one of the ingredients. It really makes the fight feel like a twisted Disney cooking scene.
All of the ingredients literally look in pain with him
Tbf you are one that literally steals the ingredients for him with callus force
I still can't believe that in the epilogue after he tries to kill cuphead, mugman, ms chalice, and actually kills the ingredients he was just given community service by the judge
🎶Le poisson, le poisson
How I love le poisson 🎶
This boss fight was so much fun. I thought the devil and king dice were hard, but this guy is as salty as they come. It’s one of the greatest fights I ever had in a video game. Studio MDHR I applaud you all.
I see what you did there nice pun
It could have been king dice an devil for controlling him or told him stop cups
This game is great
@@tylermatthew349 how would the devil be able to control him without the contracts and power?
@@taraktaras7327 I don’t know it could be reason we did saw chef saltbaker trailer but he was nice than they didn’t told us information an bout he being evil or they probably call him his own phone to end cups who king dice or devil
Insane how this guy looks more evil then the literal devil himself
If anything he's good at manipulating other people!
@@jeremiegaming3034 Nah he didnt manipulate them, he just didnt tell em the secret ingredient
I think its cuz he is murdering food in the back which is disturbing. The Devil was basically just chilling on his throne watching his minions run around then he was crying at the end haha
I think I preferred the Devil over the Chef.
@@hsomega_something
He actually did! At the beginning of the game he tells you “but like any good bake, heart and soul is the secret ingredient!”
The Chef killing the block of sugar is genuinely upsetting lol. I love how they made him more sinister than the Devil.
I feel sad for the dough and the crate
The Limes had a more painful death…
It's surprising that even after all that, Saltbaker simply does community service and turns over a new leaf, while the Devil is forced to give up the contracts.
The terrifying saltshaker chef is redeemed, while the Devil stays a sour old jerk who had to give up everything that gave him power over Inkwell Isle.
Years Later, and I never want to play this game.
@@Kaijufan360 then why are you here?
Am I the only person who felt bad for the sugar? He was so terrified

I felt bad too, same with the dough, the dough was smiling before he died
@AndrewWithEase11 11
Did someone throw a large sugarcube at you in school?

I think it's just that there is so much going on in this fight. Can't tell you how many times I've died to one thing because I started focusing on another, or because the sheer amount of ingredients on screen managed to trap me into a corner 😭
Wait… the ingredients he uses in phase one are very ones you collected during the DLC! Man that is attention to detail!
Except for the Pineapple Mint - but I think those are the leaves he throws in phase 2!

The character trapped by Saltbaker also changes (if you have the Cookie charm selected, then it’s the PC you chose, if not, then it’s Ms. Chalice)
Ok
I lovre Saltbaker's character, honestly, even for how simple he is. He seems like he was always just a good guy, a humble baker. He states in the epilogue that the "power got to his head", implying that the idea of baking the wonder tart, allowing him to take over the astral plane and become the "greatest baker in the lands", drove him insane. Great character arc at the end, if even a small one. Glad that damned wondertart doesn't have hold over him anymore.
I agree
That and he was overworked
0:57 That animation of snapping his fingers is so clean. Incredible.
I noticed that his index finger got cracked when he did.
@@xtrafries123 same!
@@xtrafries123 ouch
*"AH HA HA! Hee hee hee hee!"*
it literally keeps me coming back lmao
Chef Saltbaker is FAR MORE terrifying than the Devil
Right?!
You know something wrong when you’re the literal devil and people find a salt shaker more intimating then you XD
Let us compare shall we?
Devil's attacks that use his minions are smiling, needless to say they enjoy working for their boss.
Saltbaker's attacks fully consists of the ingrediente you collected, and they are all seen screaming, crying, or suffering in agony.
The Devil is evil and he keeps that persona throughout, not bother to hide it.
Saltbaker is dark in the inside, but is nice outside, showing he is manipulative and can get anyone to do the work for him.
The Devil peels off his own body to enter a bigger body. Needless to say he hates you to the bone.
Saltbaker, even after you managed to shatter his body, the salt around him can be seen as his very soul, and if that isn't enough his heart later comes up, which in the Cuphead universe, is seen as their soul. The salt is the ghost, the heart is the soul. So he hates you, even after death and to the soul. It makes it sound like a Kirby Soul boss.
So who sounds more heartless?
@@raymaikeru honestly both of the Devil’s and Saltbaker’s actions were cold. For the Devil, he’ll stay cold-hearted throughout the series, for Saltbaker, he reflects upon his actions with a song playing in the DLC Epilogue, we eventually see Saltbaker’s change and character development as he “bakes for good.”
To answer your question both characters were cruel. But for who stays cruel throughout it’d be the Devil. Of course Saltbaker was actually manipulative as we thought he was friendly, but the Devil will stay evil throughout.
That's what I've been saying
I just cant get over how absolutely enchanting The animation is. Pure art all thoughout.
Sheer work it took is reason why Cuphead took so long to make and why Delicious Last Course took as long as it did as well. It did pay off because it looks gorgeous.
This guy deserves to be the final villain of the Cuphead animated series just because of how more sinister he seems compared to the Devil!
Well according to the end credits his time in prison doing community service actually convinces him to change his ways and be good, so I don't think that will happen.

You can see how well animated this final boss is, it's very smooth and very fluid. Like everyone said, this look like it's straight out from a some old Disney movie.
The song of the boss and the detail of each thing that's going around in the back and your fight are grand. I'm one of many who are glad that they took their lovely time with this DLC.
Props to the animator and everyone in the development team for theri hard work.
Those 4 years were 100% worth the wait
This boss fight has some of the best animation I’ve ever seen. You can tell so much love and care went into making this DLC, particularly so with Chef Saltbaker
I love chef saltbaker he’s my favorite bc he is scary is cool!
I was wondering why it took 5 years to make this DLC. And then I saw the sheer animation quality of this last boss. This is better than anything Disney ever made in terms of sheer presentation.
Saltbaker's laugh in the second phase sounds so cool and menacing at the same time
Ik, so damn cool and evil.
I love the detail that when he snaps int he 2nd phase, the middle finger gets cracked.
But I do wonder where the pineapple from the dog fighters is in this bossfight
It was pineapple mint, he throws the leaves at you after he grows giant in the second phase

@@Kiballui06 No wonder the fight feels so chilling and awesome. The concept! The expressions! THE 90's DISNEY-STYLE ANIMATION!!
@The Krookodile Hunter You're kidding right? I mean yes its similar but c'mon.
If you look closely, you can see he has a different animation depending on which pepper shaker hits him
(Edit: As someone pointed out, they're pepper shakers and not salt shakers)
Wait thats true how I didnt notice that?
They’re actually pepper shakers.
If they were salt tho, that would just be like attacking you father or something.
And his finger cracks when he snaps
He also progressively gets more cracked the more you hit him and that when does crack you can see the salt leaving the glass body
Studio MDHR did it! They Caught lightning twice. Cuphead was a crowing achievement, but the delicious last course was as much fun as the first game. If they never want to make anymore I don’t blame them, 12 years of hand-drawn animation is a lot of time.
All hand drawn and coded and tested.
This game must’ve been a NIGHTMARE to develop in terms of the sheer time it took.
He actually felt more threatening than the Devil to me.
Sure, the Devil takes souls, but we never actually see him commit murder on screen lime Saltbaker did with the limes. Also, that psychotic stare and smile of his is more menacing than any other villain in the game.
What also adds to it is how jarring the reveal can be for those who don't see it coming. What the Devil does, people expect from him and other characters who are similar to him. They don't expect the helpful, well-kown, and ambitious chef to be a sadistic, psychopathic killer.
Cup head: the only game where the gameplay looks better than the cutscenes
I actually never thought of that, but you're right. What an awesome game.
Omg ur right :O
@Bendu I mean, no...
In the first game, the cutscenes were just still images while the gameplay was fully animated.
It’s shocking how chef salt baker is the final boss
I honestly kinda expected him to be the Final Boss but it's still an amazing Boss in my opinion.
Fun fact:Right after the Dlc starts, salt says "The SOUL and heart you put onto it" refering to the wondertart
F o r e s h a d o w
I really wanted him to be good because of how happy he looked in the trailer. At least they did him good in the ending!
We all see that from miles away bud. The moment we saw him in the first DLC trailer we know this dude gonna be final boss.
But I never expected him to be this frightening and sadistic, my fucking god he look more evil than freaking Satan.
I just love how menacing they made the chef look in this fight, they turn his positive and happy smile into a threatening grin so seamlessly, and with the cracks he looks even more scary
The animations are so good. my favorites being in phase 1. the fact that he its killing the ingridients with no shame whatsoever and how every ingridient its sad or scared really sets the vibe. As always another W for cuphead
I have never played the game and I didn't even know that there was a story but I have to say even without knowing these things this was a fun boss battle to watch
The second phase transition along with that GOD DAMNED MUSIC almost made me whip my controller across my room in pure bliss.
It goes so hard. Like damn.
IKR, gave me chills the first time I heard it
Just the look in his eyes as he murders the ingredients. It’s terrifying.the wide smile to just brings it together. The devil can’t compare to salt baker! And they way your supposed to think he’s the good guy trying to help all this time turns out to be a sadistic salt shaker. Props to MDHR for this BEAST of a boss!

i feel bad for the sugar cubes they die so brutaly
Nah the lemons died more brutally
@The Krookodile Hunter never
The animation in this fight was stunning. 90's Disney quality stuff. So glad I can enjoy it peacefully in this video without having to worry about dodging an entire Touhou game's worth of bullets.
More like 40's Disney stuff, I would say. That's a high mark, mind you!
Even just watching it now my instinct has me get all anxious about the projectiles and attacks like I'm the one playing.

This is the scariest cuphead boss ever
I didn't notice this the first time but he literally used a mario mushroom to grow giant
Lol
Can you parry the mushroom?
@@fiery114 no I think it’s too high
@@ellisp276 heh 😐
Makes sense Mario and cup head were both in super smash bros
It's funny how gruesome this DLC is at times. Most of the chess bosses are linked to beheading (parrying the Pawns' heads, Bishop's flying head and I think Rook is pretty obvious), Esther Winchester gets turned into sausages and finally, Saltbaker totally maims the sentient ingredients. It's freaking amazing.
Also the giant who's fight ends with you killing him internally.
The music in this fight tells a story!
1. You’re faced with a foe that murders innocent ingredients. His evil grin shows how insane he’s gone in search for power!
2. The second phase, he’s slowly cracking both psychically and mentally.
He’s got you in the palm of his hand, laughing maniacally. You’re in some serious shit now.
3. Phase 3, his bakery is destroyed, his body is destroyed, but his insides are still out to kill you.
Phase 4 a hole opens signifying that this is the last stand, you lose and it’s over. His very heart and soul are out to get you due his pride being too great! The music has changed to a sense of hope and courage. You have the fate of the world in your hands, it’s up to you to make it a good one.
When you beat him, the fanfare signifies you conquering the ultimate foe. It’s over. You’ve finished Cuphead. The final chapter concludes as the future of Studio MDHR looks bright, and your excitement awaits for what they will do in the future.
Thank you. 🙏
On the switch version of the fight, on the day of release, I experienced very glitchy stuff, when Saltbaker starts the fight, it flashes a white light and stays for a second, even after the fight begins, leaving me vulnerable to sugar cubes or lime wedges. At the third and final phase, there are just white spaces where the character mode should be, and I had no idea Saltbaker’s heart was parry pink, it was just a hot mess and needs patching
To be fair, it’s not exactly parry pink anywhere
But that sounds pretty broken.
@@Pancakes_Master it’s not unbeatable, it’s just missing the models entirely and the hit box is confusing
similar glitches have also happened on the devil since the port launched. both also suffer long load times, and after exiting to the map from the saltbaker fight, sometimes the game won’t get off the loading screen ever
@@amso7169 I didn't experience any long load time at any point in the game, I don't know anything about the Saltbaker load time, I never went to the map during his fights.
My switch version rarely glitched out, thats kinda odd
How many times will I watch the Chef Saltbaker fight (solely for the fact that it is, IMO, the best animation in the DLC) before I get sick of it?
I'm willing to watch it as many times as it takes to find out. Like, seriously. WOW.
Same! It's all incredible, but my favorite parts are the second phase, and the salt pillars in the last phase.
The Great definition of" WTF IS HAPPING ON MY SCREEN"
i hate when UA-cam recommends a video for a game I'm mildly interested in and will get to at some point and it says "this character is the final boss"
Damn this is such a good dlc, hope to see big UA-camrs like jacksepticeye and markipiler play it or something.
Yeah me too their in for a surprise
What I've noticed is that while a lot of character animations in Cuphead emulate Fleischer shorts (which is still absolutely amazing btw), Saltbaker's animations feel more theatrical, like something Disney would make in the 40s. I can't stop watching it, it's breathtaking and now I fully understand why the DLC needed this time to polish its visuals to perfection.
I love how they animated him, He's a chef but showing the ingredients actively running away from him in terror is amazing. He cuts the lime's feet off so they can't run away from him, he's an amazing boss, And it's so hard to pay attention to the fight instead of looking at his expressions as he chops up the things he throws at you. His evil laugh as he carries you to the ceiling of the bakery , and the head of him smiling in the back with a shattered face. Amazing boss battle, 10/10, Would a 100% let's chef salt Baker bake me into a pie
Ik, he's by far the most intense Boss *even more than Dr. Khal*, the music, It is so distracting looking at all the background stuff. He's the coolest boss in the game.

If just one which one, and where does the other one play, and if both where is the transition between the songs here?
From what I can tell its ONLY "Baking the Wondertart" but it seems it loops and transitions parts according to which phase.
Honestly my favorite boss ever. When I open the dlc the ice wizard changing into a golem caught my eye and he became my favorite. But now that I played a little through salt he is awesome. His animations are beautiful, each fight stage is completely unique in design and fighting. He isn’t an entire pain in the ass to the point of me wanting to break my controller either which is nice
