2018 Ford Expedition - Review and Road Test

- The 2018 Ford Expedition has the towing abilities and ruggedness buyers expect from a full-size SUV but hiding beneath its hulking shape is an impeccably usable interior, helpful technology, a powerful EcoBoost V6 engine, and expanded use of lightweight aluminum. The 2018 Expedition is undoubtedly the best version yet but does Ford’s full-size SUV have what it takes to topple contenders like the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Toyota Sequoia? Kelley Blue Book’s Micah Muzio climbed aboard the 2018 Ford Expedition to find out.

Finally, full-sized third row seats with a full-sized trunk. Would buy one right now.
Ebenezer Eb I mean, every expedition that had independent rear suspension (2003 and newer) was known for having a giant 3rd row
Not a good idea, this generation is somewhat overpriced.
Teddy Gelafeir everything is overpriced compared to 10/15 years ago
overprice doesnt mean price increase
Ebenezer Eb ..I'm getting one! Amazing SUV and V6 twin turbo gets better MPGs than other big SUVs. Loved Expeditions since inception .
Makes me miss my 97 Eddie Bauer. Loved that thing, been in the family since new and had 302k miles. Still going with the new owner. There’s always something about these cars that just makes you fall in love.
Derek Townsley had one. Steering was floaty and dangerous. This one is better.
Derek Ortiz it took me a week to get used to it and after that I loved it
I'm still driving a 2001 Expedition and it's running great. Honestly not a big fan of the new design. Looks like less of a truck. The first generation really has a fierce look
@@derekortiz3663 what do you mean by steering is floaty?
My family has a 2004 Expedition Eddie Bauer with the 5.4L Triton V8 and man its fucking awesome. Its still in the family and runs strong, even after all these years. The Expedition is such a great and dependable SUV
My 07 Ford Focus lasted 10 yrs and 231,000 miles with no major malfunctions. People badmouth American cars, but the Fords my family members all had always got 200 - 300k miles with no major problems.
dmax5678 same with my folks. I've got an 01 expedition that's always been in the family that has only around 95k miles, but my dads f150 has 281k miles, my brother has a 2006 focus with 210k miles, and my grandma has a crown vic from 1999 with over 300k miles, owned since new! It pisses me off when people talk about American reliability when my family and other families prove that their claims are not the case
exactly! it's not 1960 anymore lol
That's nothing. My 1993 gm k1500 is still my daily driver. 355k only needed a starter and brakes. Tell me gm is junk. Let's talk after an Ecoboost survives that long.
I've never seen this guy before, EVER. But I will watch ALL of his car reviews from now on. They're pretty cool.
Thanks! Glad you like our reviews!
I don't need a SUV, but I'll buy one of these in a heartbeat.
ugly ford car
@@igihoihojojyune9846 your mom
Wow Ford did very well on the new Ford Expedition
Penguin 471 It’s about damn time it got redesigned!
Is this supposed to be an upgrade from an explorer
Penguin 471 yes i agree ford REALLY STEP THERE GAME 👍😁 CHEVOLET EAT YOUR HEART OUT😎
Front end is a copy of the Chevy but with a Ford emblem on it
wafrederick What are you smoking? They look entirely different lmao
Big fan of the appearance
zrp0602 it’s so trashy looking up front
Brady Bisgard I like the outgoing model better
zrp0602 ×spaja pa
zrp0602 I love the outside but the inside is really dated
Looks like a beefed up soccer mom mini van
Ford loaned me a 2018 Xlt expedition while my 2013 explorer was getting fixed up. We did not want to let it go. My family loved the way it drove. Every turn we took was so smooth. We want to get one but the price is a little too high. The expedition is not that “afFordable”. See what I did there?
Give it about 10 years n it wont ride the same
@@hesiquioperez1553 Are you Nostradamus?
Nah just being realistic. Called wear n tear
@@hesiquioperez1553 Nah just being true. A 10-year old Expedition now is different when this 2019 expedition will be 10 years old. Continue with your logic and be proud of it.
@@multicons u making no sense.
I always enjoy watching Micah's reviews. Ford did an awesome job with the New Expedition.
Finally, another option than a Suburban AND a usable 3rd row plus endless family features. This is a mothers car dream come true. Lol
But are you capable of driving it?
Victor Hernandez Rude much? Are you capable of manners?
In my opinion the Navigator looks much better!
Huevo Duro702 Navigator is built on same design it's just the luxury brand , cost alot more
jojo don't forget the dads!
I remember seeing the first Expeditions way back in the day and was impressed as it's an American vehicle but they sort of fell off for a few years, I feel they did great again with this design! More vehicle than I need but it does look good again!
Acc0rd79 Make Expeditions Great Again.
PitchTrails is
Acc0rd79 thanks to range rover connection.
I mostly agree with you with the new 2018 expedition design. But in my opinion, the only thing about the new 2018 expedition I don't like is the f-150 dash. Doesn't match with the vehicles design and the f-150 dash on this expedition just gives it a f-150 feel and look. It would be alot better if they improve this dash meaning making it different from the f-150 das and making it match with the vehicles design.
I love that ford still includes the keypads... so convenient, I used it all the time
Same here!
Wow, really liked those camera angles and transitions. Really cool!!
Needs to have a V8 engine. Yes the V6 is fast, but for reliability, sound, and smoothness nothing beats a V8 (except a V12)
yes exactly and in such huge truck it doesn't save any fuel to have small engine
Nope!
It's doing just fine. Fuck sound, it's a soccer mom mobile and gets way better mileage than anything with a V8 and will smoke any V8 equipped large SUV. Just ask Chevy.
Wrong
Got to test drive this bad boy at my school and my jaw DROPPED when I got in the Driver seat! It was easily the best SUV I have ever gotten in
I appreciate that KBB is funnier than the average car review channel lmao when he stuck his head in the armrest console
I remember a time not so long ago when cars barely got 24mpg. Now full size SUVs and pickups can do it for days.
my 2003 Cadillac STS got 30 mpg on the highway. That old Northstar V8 roared too.
@@fit4ya1975 no way lol my 1997 Cadillac Seville sts burns threw fuel
I have a 00 Ford Expedition XLT 5.4L V8 Triton & the 2 thing I have to complaint on that model is that the cargo area is very small when the 3rd row seats are in use & second is that when you fold & lift up the 3rd row seats it's still not enough space in the cargo area. Can't really blame them since it was their first SUV! I still love my 00 Expedition till this day. I have a lot of mods I want to add to the suv though.
So far I only added new LEDs on to interior lights and step lights as well.
Here are the mods I want to add onto my expedition in the future. Note that these are not in order.
Mods
1. New Headlight & Tail light units (LEDs included)
2. New Door Speakers (4) & probably a subwoofer or two
3. New Stereo Unit (touchscreen)
4. Entertainment Units inside behind driver & passenger headrest (DVD/USB player)
5. Vinyl seats (8) & vinyl plastic trim
6. New Carpet
7. Weather floor mats
8. New intrumental panel
9. Black tint windows
10. Repaint car to original color
And.... That's about it for now. Anyone have other mods that I should consider adding? Let me know please.
At a car show I sat on one of these but the second row's ceiling wasn't roomy at all. I am 5ft 11in and when I sat up straight my head touched the ceiling. It was confusing because this SUV is big but yet not much of head room.
The interior is waaaayyyy better than the Explorer. I just don’t understand the center stack of the Explorer, it looks big and plasticky. With lots of buttons.
Jank Paul It comes with an owners manual.
Jank Paul exactly
Obviously i know how to use it, but it just looks odd. Its a big curved plastic protrusion. It's a nice vehicle, but that has to be my biggest complaint.
Jank Paul no fucking shit
Jank Paul The most expensive explorer is cheaper than the base model of the expedition lol.
Sweet. I’ll be honest, I’m buying it because it’s a huge 4x4. That’s it.
This thing is BALLIN
The 4A mode on this one is actually very capable with the different drive modes. I had a rental and it got through semi deep sand no problem at all with the sand mode and lower tire pressure. Good job ford!
What’s this? A KBB video on a Thursday? Dreams do come true
Very impressed with new Expedition and Navigator. Great work Ford!
beautiful ,,my next car in 3 years
Looks like a good amount of head room as well. For those of us that are over 6'0 tall, that is the critical test. Good job Micah.
The Expedition/Navigator third row always felt significantly larger than Tahoe/Escalade. The third row alone is why I’d choose it over the GM twins. But that’s me, since I value third row space.
I just wish it had a diesel engine option.
It does from what ive googled.
@@brandonh5201 not in the US I'd imagine.
@@UnrealOG137 probably yes in the US, the f150 has a 3.0 powerstroke wish It had one still
Always love Ford:), and job as usual KBB.
Ive always thought that center Sony Console looked horrible, especially in the Explorer. Ive always wished they went with more of the style that resembles this expeditions center console. As well as replacing the non-LED turn signals, high beams, and reverse lights with LEDs, the Explorer would be one of my favorite cars. I do still like the vehicle, it would just be cool if Ford could change that on the Explorer.
ya you would think that every vehicle now a days would have ALL LED lighting, especially for how much they charge for them
Everyone showcasing and pricing the Platinum... Just show me an XLT with the 22" wheels, panoramic roof, and cloth seats
CarterBurtonMotorsportsDotCom you can do that in ford website build & price
Can’t get 22’s in xlt.
My only minus is that rotary nub for gear change, love the stick
I saw Micah in Long Beach on my last trip over. He's super handsome even in person. Expeditions are HUGE machines and I don't understand why so many people in LA have them. I'm from the PNW and we actually use ours and would rather pick up a used Suburban Mom hauler than pay full price for a new one, but they are awesome, can-do machines.
Is the 2020 Ford Expedition out
This is a really great video! The edits and shots make me very interested!
So glad you like it!
It’s a sexy truck who agrees with me!
Easily beats the Tahoe in every way
Dodge Durango better
Except in looks
Chris McManus I agree I like the looks of the previous one better
Lincoln the best
+Zach Dubos technically its a midsize but Dodge categorize it as a full size. But its competition are definitely mid size suv like explorer and traverse.
Shocked I kinda love this.....they've finally stepped up and away...Good for Ford.
Now that's what I call a real American SUV
Goerge Ibrahim look
I don’t understand how Ford puts a 12” LCD instrument cluster in the Mustang but not in their “fully loaded” 84k Expedition.
2:35 Micah takes car testing to a whole new level!!
one of my favorite things about the new expedition is that the vented seats cool you butt and your back, some fords with vented seats just do you butt
Do all expeditions come with a GPS as standard?
Ford Expedition is very good to drive by full size SUV 10 speed automatic with manual mode where they shift gears on +- button! My top 6 full size SUV with cargo space 1. Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban 2. Ford Expedition 3. Cadillac Escalade ESV 4. GMC Yukon Denali 5. Lincoln Navigator 6. Toyota Sequoia
“Is no problema” im mexican and laugh so much 😂
.
Build the wall!
I have a 2015 Expedition EL. It's very spacious. It's pearl white and I just tinted the front windows and tinted the windshield with 25% tint. I ❤ the way it rides and handles.
What would you buy?
2018 expedition
2018 tahoe
2018 escalade
2018 navigator
2018 yukon
I want that red pickup on min 4:06
Christian Alberto 😂😂😂😂
Was good until the question at the end. We don't row and don't do too much off roading, but with a large family that plays sports and travel, the seating AND storage are needed. Unfortunately mid sized suvs get cramped in both ways when traveling to games. This is a better option. Best option is to find a 2004 or older with a 7.3 diesel excursion and fix up for a lot less the 80k.
Is that an Explorer on steroids.
4door 2seater no it's the flex on steroids
Jeffrey Wilkerson It does now that I looked again 😁
I liked this review, the presenter reminds me of British presenters which very informative, a silly humor here and there. I like it, subscribe!
Glad you enjoyed it, Ahmad!
Please give me it as present!!! Amazing car, which is missing in Kazakhstan.
I love the expedition it was the first thing I learned to drive in.
Is it a quiet ride? How does it compare to the navigator? It’s too bad a fully loaded one with all the safety features cost so much money.
It is toooooo expensive for its class
C445c
I love my 01 expedition! I'd love to get my hands on one of the newer FX4s!
The expedition is beyond beautiful. The explorer is the same. But both of them are roomy and have a LOT of Storage. Though as the Escape through the years got a lot smaller. Same with explorer. The 2004 explorer has a lot of trunk room. Now the new explorers is a little bit smaller than the old ones. But anyway they are amazing!
Please Uncle FORD, don't leave Indonesia...we love Your Products
SYNC 3 can even adjust audio EQ settings?! I just can't keep up with technology.
I do not recommend Ford cars!
I have a Fusion and Ford refuses to change the box indicated in the Recall claiming high mileage. Ford does not meet Recall.
In brazil
All of the Brazilian cars sucks.
Ford sucks in making cars that why they would stop creating cars and just focus on truck that are top nocht.
Yeah that Honda Pilot in the back steals the show.
Plan on buying one of these soon but I'm not a big fan of the rear but overall I still love it
Hey, does the engine turn off when you clap?
wow i like it.. i wander if the Expeditions will ever come to Australia
Nice...but not for 84000
I agree. Ford has gone off the deep end with the pricing of this vehicle. Smh.
How Big is it compared to a Chevy Tahoe. Is it the same size as a Tahoe or the size of a suburban?
Why is the front all chrome? It looks kinda cheap
These have gotten better looking since was first introduced in 1998 I think Ford first built these, I forget exact year Expedition first came out. I'd rather have this than a truck, my Town Car has adjustable pedals but never have used it or tried.
is this the same size as Suburban? Or rather smallernTahoe?
The knob are such a turn-off. ...wish they could keep the column shifter in the suvs and trucks.
John Grytbakk time is changing so as the industry but it’s suitable on other vehicles ( less vehicles )
John Grytbakk A column mounted, digital shifter would be nice. It would allow for the transmission to automatically go into Park when the car is shut off.
John Grytbakk I think Buick still offers them. 😂
I agree. I hate that knob crap. Steering columns will always be my favorite.
Yes, because this is 1978.
Ford's styling lately is really classy. Kinda ironic given how Ford is a mainstream brand while other names like Lexus try too hard making their cars look overly garish but they just couldn't pull off classy very well. Here, it seems some Lincoln Navigator classiness found its way to its more pedestrian sibling. Still, the Expedition is in many ways a luxury vehicle.
1:34 I've never understood the point of a separately opening rear window. Can someone enlighten me?
They finally made the Expedition elegant
Might as well get a 2018 Cadillac Escalade for the price... and looks 10x times better
Ender King19 right
Ford needs to offer the baby Powerstroke as an option on future models. They now have to go up against the Tahoe / Suburban with the baby Duramax as an option; and come 2022, the Ecodiesel in the Jeep Wagoneer / Grand Wagoneer.
Ford Expedition is a single car with attractive and luxurious family.
Can't wait to get this
Good color
Gotta say I noticed that editing!
Nice one shots during the interior segment!
It is not just about towing. These full size SUVs are more isolated, solid and capable than any mid size SUV. Who only buy a Range Rover to go off road.
My Favorite SUV Ever Along With Explorer And Everest
The expedition is probably the best large suv out there
80k , I leased an expedition XLT 4x4 back in 97 when they first came out for $250 a month
Overpriced, but so are the Yukons and Tahoes. Wait for fall and let GM and Ford pay for the depreciation. But the independent rear suspension is a definite advantage. Not sure about the engines. Need to see a long term test to see how they perform. Whether you tow or not, I'd recommend buying the additional cooling system.
1:35 and 1:41 how did the camera move seamlessly ?
Owned 2 Eddie Bauer Expeditions. They weren't terrific. Switched back to Tahoes and Yukons. The new Tahoes and Yukons are not getting great reviews form friends. I may try another Expedition but the styling looks outdated and old to me with some great new features inside. I do tow a boat long distances so that and fuel economy greater than 11MPG while towing would be appealing.
The more luxurious equivalent, the Lincoln Navigator, is super nice too!!
So beautiful and badass at the same time
I like in Ford Expedition 2018 adjective on inside spance but I think the best Chevy Tahoe 2015 - 2018 and GMC Yukon 2015 - 2018
They should have keep the V8 and it's way to Expensive. I like my 2012 explorer
Bald Head Jamaican I like my 2012 explorer too, I’m looking to upgrade only bcs we have two car seats in the second row and that puts our knees in the dash. But this explorer has been a good vehicle to us, for the 5 years we’ve had it. Can’t deny it’s had some issues, but I do like the car.
As for the expedition, way over priced. Idk how most can afford it honestly.
The v8 should be an option (the coyote 5L), but I don't think it should be the only engine.
@@mattwilliams8733 True I agree. Only thing i hate is the expensive water pump job on it because its chain driven
@@UnrealOG137 Agreed
Bald Head Jamaican our 2012 explorer has a chain driven water pump? I didn’t know that! How many miles did yours have when it needed one?
2017 ford expedition saved my life in a head on crash. You get my ass I'm putting my wife, kids, and grand kids when I get them in one of these.
Gracias me ayudaste a decidir en la Chevrolet colorado o está
Creo que elijo la Colorado
I wish I had one. So awesome. Good work FORD. 😊😊
Sad to see they used the capacitive button keyless entry like on the 5th Gen Explorer. Maybe it works better here, but on the Explorer it's almost useless. The buttons on the 4th Gen Explorer (and other Ford products) are much easier to press.
Still needs a V8 option, especially in high humidity areas like here in Florida. Ford tested the 3.5 Eco boost in arid environments, but in high humidity, the turbos spool water from the air into the combustion chambers, causing the engine to sputter and shut down. This is a known issue and I don't know if Ford has addressed it. I have a buddy who traded in his 2013 F-150 for a 2017 with the 5.0 V8 after this issue left his wife and kids stranded on the interstate. Plus, if you're buying a full-size SUV or pick-up, do you really care about gas mileage? The MPG difference between the 5.0 and 3.5 Eco boost is minimal. Start-Stop Tech is just more ridiculous Euro-crap that's just another thing to go wrong. I'll keep my 2011 F-150 Lariat with the Coyote 5.0.
I love this car I’m gonna buy one now.
Wait, did you fly a drone into the car to get the folding seat shot?! I thought it was just on a stick until the shot flipped around and looked back and the rear was shut. Great shots!
what's the name of honda suv at the begining?
Never knew they were still in production will be getting one
