Why Japan Had Twice as Many Elvis 4-Channel LPs as the US

- There were 8 quadra-disc LPs released in Japan in the 1970s but only four in the US. There are also several significant differences between some of the quad LPs and their 2-channel stereo counterparts. We look at all of that in this video.

Another great one David. I am fortunate enough to be the proud owner of 4 Elvis Quadradisc albums from the 1970’s and yes, they all do have different mixes. Even if you play these records on a regular Stereo channel cartridge, you can still hear the difference. My Japanese collection of Elvis releases has quadrupled in the last six months. So, Thank You my friend. 😊
Yes, you're right about the mixes. I listen to them ocassionally but I don't think it does the LPs much good to be played with a standard stereo cartridge. Talk to you soon. Cheers, Francesco.
Hi David thanks ❤, Daniel.
Welcome!
Hi David, Thanks in advance for translating the Aloha book into English!
Here in Germany there are many fans who want the book, also in the Elvis Club Berlin. And thanks again for your informative videos. Greetings from Germany!
No problem. I hope you like the book.

Great video, David, with some great insights. It was a pleasure corresponding on this matter with you. I do have some Japanese CD4 records but unfortunately no CD4 capable turntable, but I assume the same mixes were used for the Q8 8Track tapes.
Hi, Alexander. Thanks for prompting me to do the video. Indeed, there can't be many people who are in a position to listen to both formats. Take care.
I have been waiting on you tackling this topic David - excellent info, thank you !!
My pleasure!
These look great, thanks David. I like rhat rhe songs are put in a different order.
It does take you by surprise, though, the first time you hear them.
Very informative and I love seeing these Japanese pressings . The only one I own is an original gatefold Quad version of “ On Stage February 1970.”⚡️
Interesting series of albums. So much to collect and so little money!
How are you doing Steve? Hope you are fine.
Steve, glad to see you up and and about. Hope you are well. All the best. 😊
And do little space if you live in Japan! I hope you're on the mend, Steve.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan David, while I’m thinking of this, why is it that the Japan company that distributed and released Elvis Presley Records such a step up high quality over the United States? I think I know why, but maybe you could share your thoughts and/or opinions ? Thanks again.
There are at least a couple of reasons that I can think of. Firstly, the Japanese expect the lyrics to be included. Otherwise, they won't understand what's being sung. That means extra packaging. The albums with the very best covers were the live albums but they also cost more. I think they put even more effort into those because they knew they were going to be big sellers and / or they were planning on promoting them very heavily. What's your theory?@@FrankieLovesElvis
Interesting my friend, I remember buying a couple of these albums, many years ago! once again thanks for sharing, cheers mate!
Hi, Mal. Did you get American pressings?
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan Hi, I think so, i really don’t remember! LOL
😄@@malwalsh
Hi, great albums, and obi's
Thanks a lot for the detailed information
I got TTWII, MSG and the Aloha from Hawaii
Take care from Malta Europe
Thanks for watching! Hi to Malta!
I continue to envy the packaging, alternate photos and art Japanese fans got from RCA Japan. Nicely put together. Beautiful collection but I am probably sticking to the stereo releases as quad 4 channel LPs sell at a premium here in the US especially the Japanese copies. Thanks for the great video David.
Keep an eye out for them. You never know - one may come up for a low price. They're worth it for the different mixes. Thanks for watching.
Just love the gatefold ELVIS albums they did a fantastic job with the packaging just amazing. Don't have any of the quad albums , my copy of ALOHA FROM HAWAII album from here in the states is not the guad release. Great video!
Must be a later copy you have, right? Yes, the gatefold sleeves were fantastic but only the live albums were done that way with the inserts stuck inside. Thanks for watching.
Hi David my dear friend :) how are you ? hope everything is alright , I got the hello from Ofir ;) thank you, great video, i almost got all those Quadro LPs, missing the last 3 : Recorded live on stage in Memphis, Promised Land & Today ....let me know if youll get them ;) thanks again, Cheers, Lior
Hi, Lior. Yes, all good here, thanks. I hope you're well. I'll keep you in mind if I part with the quad LPs or get more copies. Cheers.
Hi Dave ,nice video those quad discs look really nice ,a never got in to them me sel av not come across many over the years ,a suppose having the right equipment to play them is a must to appreciate the sound ,a remember when a first started buying EL records back in the early 70s the store I used to go to every Saturday had a huge collection of EL 8 track carteridges ,a never got in to those either but a wished I had of as there really collectible now,if a seen a quad disc at a record fair a would buy it tho ,ad like to listen to Alhoha 1973 on a quad disc with the right equipment ,take care Dave, tony 🎼🎹🎸🎶🎶🎶
Hi, Tony. I don't think quad LPs ever took off in the UK, did they. I'm not aware of any UK Elvis quad LPs, not even Aloha. In Japan, 8-tracks were never that big. I've only ever seen a handful of Elvis 8-tracks and none of them were quad. I remember a family friend back in the '70s had an old Jaguar with an 8-track player in it. I was well impressed but apparently 8-tracks don't actually sound that great. Cheers, Tony. All the best.
Fascinating video David on a topic I knew very little about. We are in Tokyo next April. Do you think I may see some of these in vinyl shops there or in Tower Records ?
Tower Records and the HMV shop now sell used records in Tokyo so you might find one or two of them there. You can also try a chain store called Disk Union. They have lots of stores in Tokyo. You're unlikely to find the last four, but you never know. Good luck!
I've never heard one of these before ,very curious to how they sound, they did play one in a episode of Colombo but couldn't hear the true sound because of listening through a TV.
Luv the show.
Columbo? 😅 The detective series? I might track that episode down.
Hi David, great video and info, do you remember I told you I got a copy of TTWII Quad release and when I heard Patch It Up I notice that was the studio version instead of the live one?, thanks...
That's right, you did. Then Alexander asked me about Patch it Up and I told him 😄 Thanks, Pedro.
Great video my friend i like to know do Japan release Elvis Camden albums on cds thats not out in the USA i am working on getting more Elvis cds from Japan..and what about the fake stereo lps on cds to i do know there where few made in the USA in the fake stereo from Japan but there going lot of money these days lol. anyway you have a great collection there my friend i would love to have you on my live stream one of these days if you like do a live with me..
Hi Curtis. There are no Japanese Camden CDs, unfortunately. Just two fake stereo Japanese CDs made for sale in Japan, I think: Elvis Presley and Elvis' Golden Records. Yes, livestream sounds fun. Cheers.
❤
Thanks for watching.
That has to be the aloha sleeve, period
Amazing, isn't it? Thanks for watching.
