    Hi Dave ,bit late with me comment as av been on holiday to Majorca ,just got back late yesterday,great video that 2nd Japanese cover the best by a country mile,wouldn’t that have made a great UK or US cover ,those interviews available always found revealing as you can tell by ELs tone he’s rightly nervous and apprehensive as to what the next two years would hold for him,it’s amazing to me how well the EP did as it’s one of the EPs with multiple re pressing in the UK anyway ,nice cover but not a patch on the Japanese pressing ,the 2nd one especially,well spotted at the end ref close inspection of the UK cover ,great video Dave ,take care ,tony 🎸🎸🎶🎶

    I like those picture sleeves. It amazes me that there was enough demand (or perceived demand on the part of RCA) to re-issue this into the mid-sixties and as late as 68 in the UK. Interesting as always!

I'd love to know about those times marketing and production of the records, in diferent countries, about a team making those decisions and releasing an Elvis album out to the world. A documentary on that should be very interesting for me 🤓 Thanks again!

    Hi David. Thanks for doing a great job on showing and explaining these Elvis albums. August 16th is my birthday, and I remember hearing on the radio at 5:30pm Elvis Presley passed away. I was just getting into Elvis's music. I loved the Guitar Man & Our Memories of Elvis volumes One and Two. I really love the song released that became a top 10 Country Hit "Are You Sincere". Elvis really delivered a strong vocal performance. The Guitar Man album is one of my favorites. I loved how Felton Jarvis redid Guitar Man, which became a number 1 Country Hit for Elvis. I grew up listening to Country Music, and Felton really did a great job adding a Country feel to these songs . From the Our Memories of Elvis Volume 2, I loved Elvis version of Conway Twittys There's A Honky Tonk Angel. That sing became a Top 10 Country Hit for Elvis. Thanks again for posting these albums. I'm looking for the ones I'm missing for my collection.

    I was 14years young when Elvis died and an Elvis Fan since 1975 (and the proud owner of 20 Elvis Albums). I still remember when i bought my very first Bootleg Album "Command Performances" in 1979! But the RCA 8LP-Set "Elvis Aron Presley " 1980 was really mind blowing (and pricey at the time).Another great Album, also produced by Joan Deary, was the RCA Album "Greatest Hits Volume 1" (later available on a super rare australian BMG/RCA CD). "Guitar Man" is still one of my favorite "Remix" Albums up to this day. The Record was also available on CD by BMG/RCA in Germany and Australia (both CD Pressings are very rare). Thank you David for another great Episode!

I'm sure you know that the Greatest Hits Vol. 1 album was released as The Sound of Your Cry with extra tracks in the UK, where I'm originally from. I was totally blown away by the live version of What'd I Say on that album. Cheers, Harald.

    Great video David! Not glum here, I did my mourning 47 years ago. That was a bad day, the only time I was reduced to tears over a celebrity passing. We have a lot in common regarding our experience as fans and collectors. I was 15 when he died and I was the only die hard Elvis fan in my high school. I did have one friend who was kind of a step above the average fan and a couple casual fans. When This Is Elvis came out I figured it would never get to our smaller community, so on 2 separate nights I brought different friends into New York City to see it, the NYC crowd loved it. Much to my surprise the film DID get to a small theater near my home and I went to see it alone twice more. Up until then it was my only experience seeing Elvis on a big screen. I too loved the Our Memories of Elvis albums and listened to them over and over again. I liked Guitar Man as well but not quite as much. JI moved away from collecting a little earlier than you did. My marriage, house and then kids left little money to buy much in the way of music, although I did pick up several CD box sets in the 90s and early 2000s. I stopped buying vinyl around 1984 or so. When Ebay became a thing I actually considered selling off my vinyl collection, but saw that my collection of mostly orange label re-issues were not going to command a price that would make it worth the trouble. I'm glad I held onto them now. When I took them down from the shelf I hadn't remembered how well I took care of most of them. The vinyl had sat un-played for many years and I only got back into it a couple of years ago and I've really been enjoying it.

      I too had a lot of orange releases, 1970s UK pressings, when I first started collecting. I eventually sold them, but I have a soft spot for the first Japanese RCA orange label pressings from the early '70s. Thanks for sharing your memories. All the best.

    Hunted weekly in the 80s to complete my Elvis lp collection. To my favourite 2nd hand lp and cd store. Now gone due to landlord raising the rent. It was even mentioned on the tv. 80s was a time when everyone started dumping their vinyls. I was being treated very well as a US pressings originals were $4. Hi Dave ,great video that ,it’s amazing that’s it’s 47 years today ,a remember a was 17 and me dad woke me up for work it was early morning and he told me through the bedroom door Elvis had died a was completely stunned ,but like you rightly said it’s a tribute that his music is still relevant and played today ,a think EL has become more famous and iconic in the 47 years since his passing than he ever was when he was alive for his 42 years ,back in the late 70s ,early 80s a was still buying primarily his earlier output ,but I do remember buying the this is Elvis double album and Elvis in concert ,the two 56 sessions albums I had both of those but like your self I sold a lot of my collection round about same time as you sold yours ,av always regretted it but a didn’t really have a choice ,am buying again and loving it ,some of the Memphis output now is really great the way they’ve stripped some of the orchestration and backing vocals ,a do think like you that some of the early 70s output suffered from over production ,great video Dave respectfully delivered ,take care ,tony .

      Hi, Tony. I imagine it would have been more of a shock for you at 17 than it was for me at 10. It still amazes and pleases me how popular Elvis is in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. Unfortunately, here in Japan, there are just a few of us hardcore fans left. I'm still on the fence with the Memphis CD set, given the negative reviews. I'm hoping to find a used set over here in the coming weeks. Cheers, Tony.

    Thanks for sharing those memories. I was thirteen in 1977 . In middle school I kept my being a big Elvis fan on the down low. By the time I was in high school I more open about it. I got kidded a little but because I was an athlete and considered a good guy it was all done good naturedly. I had a friend who was really into having a great sounding stereo system. He didn’t understand my love of Elvis but would give him a listen. I remember that he really liked If You Talk In Sleep and a cassette I made of a bunch of songs from Elvis’ 60s movie soundtracks. I used to go with him to a record shop in a nearby town that had the best prices on albums. The owner was a big Elvis fan and had every Elvis that was available in the catalog in stock. There would be multiple copies of each album all separated out with the dividers used to identify the album, rather than just who the artist name.

      Great stories. Thanks. If you go to some used record stores in Tokyo, they have individual dividers for each Beatles album. Nowhere near as much used Elvis stuff, unfortunately.

    The first album I ever listened to by anyone was Elvis Presley Blue Hawaii back in 1975

      Good start. I think mine was Flaming Star and a various-artists hits compilation. My mum's record collection consisted of singles mainly.

    I got all those vinyl albums back in the day. I know what you mean about being an Elvis fan in the UK in the early 80s. The Albert Goldman book really gave Elvis a bad name . None of my friends were fans. I went alone to see This is Elvis at my local cinema😢. But here I am all these years later still loving Elvis😊

      From other comments and yours, I can see there were quite a few of us going through similar experiences at the same time. I did get into lots of other artists later in my teens, but I always stuck with Elvis. Thanks, David

    We are the same age David and I had the same issues at high schools well . I had my school bag covered in Elvis song titles etc etc and use to get picked on all the time lol but didn't worry me at all .years later those who use to tease me said sorry and admitted they respected me for the way I stuck to Elvis and now they enjoy his music

    The original GR5 is a keeper as it includes exclusive remixes. The later expanded reissue resorted to the original mixes or those included on the 60's/70's masters box sets. I agree, it's baffling why Don't Cry Daddy isn't included on either release.

      Interesting. I'll have to compare that '84 original with the CD from the period. I imagine they'll be the same. Thanks for the info!

    Great video David, surely a walk down memory lane. With the Our Memories series up to Memphis Record and Stereo '57 you nailed my favorite alltime records. I was 5 years old when Elvis died and learned the music through the K-Tel Love Songs compilation my father bought. My parents bought me quite a few records from 1984 and around that I also started buying Elvis records myself. At first quite a few Camdens which were released by dozens per year in the UK and Europe.

    • @ElvisPresleyInJapan
      @ElvisPresleyInJapan 20 днів тому

      Oh yes, I remember K-Tel. I had a couple - The Ultimate Performance and a gospel compilation. I recall they always had paintings on the covers, rather than photos of Elvis, presumably to save money. You're right, there were tons of Camden releases in Europe, long after they stopped making them in America. They couldn't fool me, though. I could see what they were doing, mixing up the same few dozen songs and re-releasing them in new covers. 😆

      The 40 Greatest was probably the second Elvis LP I ever heard, after Flaming Star, which we had at home. Everybody seemed to have the Separate Ways LP back then. It was quite a striking cover with Elvis' image superimposed on a photo of a highway.

    I've looked now and i've got a counterfeit cd of "Our memories" too... wich is very strange, because i bought it when it came out directly from the It's Elvis time fanclub, who produced the original cd.

    • @ElvisPresleyInJapan
      @ElvisPresleyInJapan 20 днів тому

      Oh, no. Here's my source for the "counterfeit" theory: www.discogs.com/release/10210908-Elvis-Presley-Our-Memories-Of-Elvis-1-2 Alternatively, it could simply be a legitimate reissue. To me, the text seems a little fuzzy, but I have no other copy to compare it to you.

    Wonderful selection of late 70s and 80s releases David. The first Elvis cd I bought was Elvis Golden records vol 1 and The US Male compilation cd on rainbow records. My first Elvis record was In The Ghetto 45 record and Elvis Rock N On vol 2 an Australian 2LP release from mid 70s.
