The business manager was played by the wonderful Charles Lane (born Charles Gerstle Levison). He had an extraordinary tv/film career and was also married for 71 years. Whenever I see him in “I Love Lucy” or old movie, he steals the scene.

He was in so many movies. He was in It’s a Wonderful Life and It Happened on Fifth Avenue and in Bewitched and the list goes on and on. I think he still did work after he turned 100!

Mr. Hickox changed his name to Barnsdahl, became a banker and continued to manage Lucy's money after she moved to Danfield in 1962.

Fun Fact: Mr. Hickox was the name of their actual Business Manager. Sometimes the old bank checks on eBay have his signature on them (adjacent to Desi or Lucille’s).

Years ago in an autograph store in the Dallas Galleria, I saw the framed check for approximately $80,000 that was used by Lucy and Desi (both signatures were present) to buy their home on N. Roxbury in Beverly Hills.

@@friendofdorothy9376 Amazing that they paid 85K for that house in 1955 and when she died in 1989, Gary put it on the market for 7.8 million and the house was basically unaltered from the time they bought it. It just goes to show how disproportionately real estate prices rose in just 34 years.

She can do her hair herself, including coloring it.
But $5 a month is not enough to feed her and Ricky for an entire month even on 1950's prices.
