Great overview! I've had a Mk 40 for almost 16 years now. I've never had it serviced and it's been a daily-wear timepiece. I've beat this watch so thoughtlessly that I'm fearful of what an Omega technician would find if they opened it up. The diminutive case size makes it so easy to grab and go. It just ticks away without being a distraction. So utterly reliable. It's STILL running perfectly and is +/- 1 minute a week. The movement is amazingly accurate.
Have had one of these for just over a month now and I love it! It’s a perfect size and the complications are all really practical. This watch is really versatile - can be dressy or casual. I’m wearing it daily! Great overview - thanks!
These are running for 1500-2000 based on condition. I bought mine 4 months ago for 1500 with bracelet on chrono 24. Great watch. Thanks for making a video on it. There is literally almost nothing on this watch. I think it deserves more attention.
Charles Nelson, I agree. I also own the triple date. It’s a great watch. I was going to get a reduced since I tried in the pro and felt like it was too big. Then I learned about the modular movement and the cost typically associated with it. I also didn’t like that the crown didn’t line up with the pushers. This was a really good alternative that is unique and not pretending to be the moonwatch. I was thrilled to hear that it’s movement is affordable to service and reliable.
It does deserve more attention! Funny enough every time I walk into an Omega Boutique I get so much attention for this watch. It is like a legend to them since Omega no longer makes watches like this. I blame the Co-Axial Revolution which flooded the Omega shelves with endless amounts of big overpriced (42mm to 45mm) watches of a monotonous nature ( dual sub dials - single date display window). Watches like these with the 7751 features in a sub 40 mm size case are golden - Thanks!
@@counterhit121 Yeah, the blue 3523.80 especially goes for a premium for the blue sunburst dial and red date marker. Great watches. Much better than the more popular Speedy Reduced due to this having a very reliable and easy to service 7751 rather than the piggyback chrono movement on the reduced that is notorious for being difficult to repair and expensive to source parts.
They are going up in price. The MK40 triple date cannot be had for less than $2000 USD now. I suspect the price will continue to march north. It is a great investment.
I was interested in an Omega reduced but never thought about the 40 version. Thanks for bringing this version to my attention. Nice in depth review. Following your review i'm going to have a look for one. Thanks for posting.

I sold my Rolex about 5 years ago. But I must say buying this Speedmaster Mark 40 I feel like I’m in a unique Club. Best to you and thank you
Just watched this in one go. The most detailed review of this piece yet. I saw one in service at my local watchmaker about 5 years ago and fell in love with it. I am now in position to try and hunt one down. I prefer it to the moonwatch because of the smaller size and prefer it to the Reduced because of the lined up crown and pushers. Could you tell me the lug to lug including the tip of the end links (the t shape end to the shape end) so the maximum length if you like 😀
Thanks I love this little watch so much that I was genuinely disappointed to find so little information on it online and on UA-cam while popular, but far less interesting, watches like the Rolex Submariner get a million UA-cam video reviews and press articles. I feel, minus the Chronometre certification, and perhaps an alarm complication, this is the most complete all around automatic men's wristwatch sub 38mm that you can own.
Very good review, amaze that this watch was retail for USD4896 during year 2000 ++ (refer to 20.12 of this video), wonder how much it will be retail for now😂
You have the best watch ever made. I also do. great watch, super underrated. should worth tons of money. who cares about tour billion crap, when you can have this masterpiece of engineering .
These are a sleeper. I just ordered a new one from Amazon yesterday, having discovered them and loving the features. (Now $4,000) My main concern was one you mentioned, the scratch-magnet painted aluminum bezel. Wish they stuck with the steel bezel that was on earlier versions of the Day-Date. I can see this becoming my main daily watch.

What a great review, thank you for the video. I'm new to watch collecting and I think I might get one of MK40 in second-hand market in months. Yet I still wondering that is it worth since it'll be my first swiss-made watch. At first I thought I would get a moonwatch but as more time I look to some reviews it comes with relatively impractical for me so MK40 should serve me better. Do you have some tips for checking the watch is in good condition or any other watch option that have same complication as this watch? I really appreciate if anyone could help/ response this.
Congratulations ! Great review ! Even with my poor english good to understand (I am German). Please let me ask two questions. I got one sold 2003 and it has creamy indices but white handles. Do you have any idea why ? Second question: What year (approx) did sale of this watch end ? Perhaps anybody knows, who reads this question ? Thanks for all support !
@@BrownsNut Thank you Kiensan, good idea. But I wonder, why the hands should be without tritium lume? The indices without hands doesn't`t make it readable?
... but may be you are right, perhaps the tritium lume on the hands is so small at the edge, that the aging yellow isn`t really visible or it is an other kind of quality of the tritium. Thank you.
Often the hands are replaced if it is serviced- but I have one for sale that has original hands and even they’re not as patina’d as the indices. Maybe it’s to do with the movement of the hands affecting oxidisation (not sure if that makes sense or if I’m making it up😂)
got one since 15 years.. it's a pain in the ass to set up to day date month..done it in the begining but ok.. but easy to ready the hour. Servicing is rather expensive though.
@@olaf2046 yes that's the price... but compared to the price of the watch now.. you are at nearly 40% .. make me sick.. I do not wear it since years but keep it. Currently on tudor BB black.. awesome watch.
My Mark 40 exudes the original Moonwatch style with its white hands and white indices (both with the ability to age to a lovely ivory patina). The 3220.50 is also 40 mm and I wanted something smaller than 40mm. Another thing is the 3220.50 uses an ETA 2892A2 version of the Valjoux 775x and it is not a pure Valjoux 7751 movement (something I also wanted). While the newer is ETA 2892A2 is slightly more accurate as well as COSC compared to the older 7751 the service ease/cost and un-serviced long term reliability makes the 7751 a better value. The 7751 is known as a robust movement that can run accurately for a long stretch without needing servicing. So in terms of Style (if you like the moonwatch style), Size (if you prefer sub 40mm) and Service (if you don’t want to service a watch every 3 to 5 years) the Mark 40 is a better value.
Yeah it is definately worth the price. This watch has more practical features than any $6000 to $20000 Omega you can find brand new at an Omega boutique today. Highly recommend it. Just be sure to service the watch when you get it. A lot of these are 20 to 25 years old and will need a tune up.
