  • On this day in 1969, Imagineers Roger Broggie and Earl Vilmer purchased five railroad engines from Yucatan, Mexico to be used for the future Walt Disney World Railroad. Four of the locomotives were able to be refurbished and are still in service. The Mexican government originally opposed the sale, citing a law that prohibited Mexican technology from being exported. However, the engines were originally built in Pennsylvania, so the law didn’t apply! [55 years ago in 2024]
