Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. Today I'm tackling a living room that belongs to a member of Team AG! This style is BOLD - quirky, colourful and eclectic!

My 4 year old will sometimes ask to watch “you know mom, the video where they make over the room and surprise someone and they say ‘WOW!’” Haha! She likes Graham and points him out every time she sees him on screen. She also has decided that she wants to ‘style’ our house and we find our items moved about! She wants to makeover her room into a safari room and is very excited to help us and be like your show!

I recently decided to stop pretending that everything needed to be beige and "sophisticated" and went full on Grandma Rave. 😂 I LOVE this eclectic style!! Props to everyone!
GRANDMA RAVE, LOVED IT. Best style ever.
One thing: I think you remove the masking tapes too late. Paint should not be allowed to dry completely with the tape on because when you pull it, it can chip away paint from where you want to keep it. Basically as soon as you are done with all your coats and the paint is not dripping any more is when the tape should be removed for the best, crispest result ☺️
Great tip - that's where I went wrong on my first (of many to come) project
I am 100% sure that I lived in that exact unit with my sister from 2009 to 2017. It was absolutely wild to recognize it! Love the fun colourful take!!! And I wish we had those swinging doors into the kitchen! Such a great idea!

Same here. I am slowly decorating my house and want bold and colourful, mixed with dark and moody. I don't want neutral colour schemes. This really gave me a few design ideas

I honestly had some initial doubts about how that magenta was gonna vibe with the green... but holy disco cowgirl glam realness, it turned out so perfect! Everything works beautifully and seamlessly together and has such a good lighthearted and fun energy to it. Love it! ❤️

I’m so surprised that you picked green for the sofa. There was four sofas in the inspo pics, three of which were pink/peach and only one was green. Team AG! A client screaming out for a pink sofa! This was the perfect opportunity to use one without it being your own choice! 🤣

If they are going to have a bunch of friends over, perhaps drinking and partying, green is a much more durable choice than pink
Prep day is not boring!!! It’s so exciting to me to build furniture, because then you have furniture!!! It’s all exciting to me. I love the initial color reveals… all of it.
There are SO many things I loved about this video: the pink trim! the saloon doors! the flush mount light! the tiger print! The color!!!! But most of all - James' heroic editing steals the show. I dieddddd at Carla's "I'm just the video person!" and especially the "epilogue" section of the outtakes after the reveal section. Hysterical. Please include more "behind the scenes" / team being goofy footage - it makes it feel like we the viewers are part of the team and in on the fun.
I found you a week ago and have literally binge watched ever since. I have also been so inspired that I pimped up my whole house. Love love love you .

no joke, her inspiration photos look like my place, and are my colour palette. It's nice to see someone else loving that style, because I know I'm a maximalist and love over top prints and bold colours which not everyone is into.

I wish the dark green wall was a happier color. Love the saloon doors. I did the same thing with louvered saloon doors in my condo with an open doorway to the kitchen, it works.
It has a bit of an Ariel Bissett vibe. She does wonders with color combinations, I love her style. You did a great job, very cool and they love it 😁

Love this video, I love how you designed the space more to their taste and not just because it's on trend. Super fun love it. Definitely inspired me to be more adventurous to what is more what I like in home decor rather than what is on trend and not worrying what everyone else thinks in what a space should be

Love this makeover. Just two things: The Crosley record players are the worst. Please don't get one, get a similar priced option by Dual or some other comany and get yourself some good speakers. The Crosley built in speakers are bad.
And secondly, I would have liked to see a frame that fits the Dancing Queen Print better - so the words aren't cut off.

I am OBSESSED with this makeover. Probably my favorite makeover to date! The rose gold disco ball, amazing! But my favorite part was the horseshoes on the door painted gold!! I love it all so much!

When I first started watching your videos, I didn't really like the colors or the taste in paintings or wall decor... but then the more I watched the more I liked watching the process of making it cozy and working for different people and tackling different styles, and I saw more of the colors I like (such as green) and other bold statements and overall just nice stuff to watch and give me ideas for my own nest. There's moments when I ran out of Alexandra Gater videos and would have to wait. I can definitely see a progress from the first videos to what it is now your business and hobby and I love it. I wish there wasn't an ocean between us so I can dream of you tackling spaces that are closer to home when the time comes. Keep up the good work, bringing light in people's lives with your smiles and beautiful colors and candles!

I love how you’re able to do totally different styles for different people. With each one, you adopt the style and then go all in, creating a little and complete world. I’d say this is one of your best but I’ve said that for so many of your makeovers lately. (Though James’ apartment is still my favorite).

Cute. I painted the baseboard trims in an even brighter magenta in my daughter's bedroom, as the bright green paint she chose did not work with the golden oak floor. The magenta acted as an interesting transition and fooled the eye into making clashing hues acceptable. Love the swinging doors, very pretty.
You need your own show. I like how you sit and explain everything in between "scenes"

There is so much to love here. Starting with the incredible ceiling lamp. It's like a gorgeous molecule. The swinging doors (complete with horseshoes) are amazing. The tiger print is so dramatic and the mirror ball is a dazzler. Alexandra, Graham and the team have outdone themselves and that is saying a lot.

I love this eclectic style! This makeover and James' are probably the closest to my personal style I've seen! While the makeover looks great as always, something about the wall paint didn't do it for me. I think it was the combination of two very bold colors both on one side of the room that seems a little overwhelming. That being said, I'm still always so inspired by these videos and hope to one day be able to decorate half as good as you guys do!

This is probably one of my favorite videos you've done so far! Not so fond of the odd pillow on the gorgeous sofa, but the rest - awesome. I'm surprised you didn't use a kilim or saddle rug pillow on there for color, texture, and style. Anyway. Ooh, a repurposed old Pendleton blanket would be PERFECT for that space as throw pillows or a throw blanket!! Bold color blocks on those, and really nice. Your team did such a fab job while you were otherwise busy. BTW, congrats on the publication. You are now an AUTHOR, designer, entrepreneur, mentor, community leader, philanthropist, fun friend, loving partner ... Okay, enough girl! Talk about over achiever! I'm crazy about that dining table, the tiger print, ... And, okay, don't hate me, but I luv the TV stool (so eclectic and quirky, just needs the right place and purpose ... wow absolutely love how this space came together!!! i do wish the pink trim was a bit more ‘pinky’ as it came out a tad closer to a brick red imo, but still lovely!!! especially loved the tigers on the green wall with the books on either side, and that light fixture is gorgeous!!!
Ponies are not crosses between horses and mules ponies are a breed of horse that are smaller there are several breeds of ponies. What graham was talking about was a mule. Specifically a cross between a mare female horse and a male donkey. Mules are infertile ponies are totally different and perfectly fertile and not crossed with any kind of donkey or burro whatsoever. Great room by the way and love graham!

I have found, over more than 30 years painting and re painting my house rooms…, that I love a good satin bottom coat with two flat top coats. For walls where you want a velvet feel and imperfections hidden (not accentuated like for on purpose lumpy walls) it is perfect and durable and washable! It has a je ne sais quasi!

While I really wouldn’t want any of this in my living room, I still admire the massive transformation you guys brought about here. The saloon Doors are genius as is the ceilling light, the gum ball machine, the rug and the pink disco Ball.

I love this makeover so much. It's fun and whimsical. I wasn't sure about the colors on the walls working together, but they do and it looks amazing. The sofa is my favorite item in the room. I wish I could get one of them but they're just a bit out of my price range. One day I will have one. You and your team always do such incredible makeovers. However, this one was so different and beautiful.

I love all your videos! I binged watched about 2 years worth a couple months ago and eagerly await the new ones! Your tips can be used by anyone not just small spaces. We all need to minimalize, which I have learned years ago. Getting downsized in jobs helping that too! And I really didnt have that much and have shopped a major portion used in my life. My clothing mostly upcycled thrift since age 10 and Im 67 now! But an odd thing being poor you can justify too much stuff because "it was only $1. I also have a separate sewing building. 500 square feet. Yep we were looking for retiremnt homes and I said ...this is mine! I have rearranged it many times in 5 years but its still not "homey and cozy". I sell at little spring and summer market here so binge sewing through this extra cold long winter to get rid of a lot and banned people giving me anything free any more. Just donate to the thrift. They do college scholarships. I have a separate patio on it too and have had my women friends over. It even has all kitchen cabinets and a sink on one side. Im going to add a mini fridge and microwave. Ive figured out how to do storage for me supplies. I make my own covered boxes without glue. I have two in my home bathroom and I get asked where I bought them. One day Im going to work on a blog I startd for all I make. Its years behind. But with my mind mainly stuck on sewing construction Im having a hard time seeing decorating relationships or basically, Im still in first grade on home decor! Why I love your channel and happy I found it!
The saloon doors just made me smile widely because my grandma had one in her old apartment and child me loved to crawl underneath it 🥹🥹❤❤
A tip on painting. Do W strokes instead of straight up and down. It will get rid of the lines and makes your paint look less patchy.

You put so much personality into the space but it doesn’t feel overwhelming at all and it’s still SUPER functional - definitely want to channel this balance into my own place where the goal is boho brooklyn loft + colorful eclectic (but is currently cozy college apt 😅)

Oh my gosh Alexandra this makeover is just the coolest. I love the colors they really give this space such a cool cowboy vibe, love those saloon doors those are really awesome. All of your videos really give me so much inspiration to get busy on decorating my space, if the weather would just get better I could for sure paint my walls in the livingroom, and do a lot of DIYing in the doorways and steps up into the kitchen. I have close to 200 house plants and want to eventually build a sunporch on the front of my house which would be so perfect to put most all of my plants out there and also build a catio for my cats.
