After crying on my daughter in law’s shoulder this morning, we came to the conclusion that this hobby I started of reselling has overtaken my life. And it’s time to re-evaluate and take a break while I figure out where I want this to go.

It’s an American mindset to have to always work. My sister in law is French and they get a minimum of 11 weeks off a year. Can you imagine having that many days off and still being able to afford life? I’ve been trying to give myself several weeks off in the year and that’s helped with burnout. It’s not 11 weeks but maybe one day I can work up to it.

We’ve all been hustling to get those listings posted for Q4. Now that Christmas is days away, majority of buyers have finished their shopping and now focusing on the holiday itself~Good For Them!!
I’m going to use this to my advantage and put my feet up for a few days also.
Remember:Don’t get so busy making a living, you forget to make a life.

Burn out in this job is so real. We are our own bosses and while that is wonderful. I think we are our own worst critics and enemies. We are hard on ourselves. I work non stop. If we sit down to enjoy the evening with TV or movie I'm listing or revising old listings. When we go to bed I'm getting the next days listings ready to be posted. This is after a full day of cleaning house dinner laundry taking photos organizing inventory or sourcing. So it's like we work 24hrs. My business has really taken off. I love what I do but we all need a break and I think we forget to give ourselves one when we are the boss. 😆 Merry Christmas enjoy your little staycation.

I notice I get really unmotivated when my sales are really slow and when the inventory I have to photograph and list, I’m not excited to get listed. But when sales are good, or I have pieces that I love and am excited to list, watch out! I am working on that. It isn’t great for the consistency of my store. I’ve also had to be really inconsistent because my toddlers have been sick for most of the last month. My husband was sick. I was sick. And we just keep getting slapped in the face with illnesses one right after the other. Sometimes sourcing feels like a chore I don’t want to do. But when I watch other people’s content like “what solds” and hauls, it can really pump me up to go sourcing and to list.
My favorite Christmas gift was probably one of my most memorable ones. I was about 5 (this has got to be the only gifts I remember from such a young age!) my parents were separated and I snuck up on Christmas eve to try and take a sneak peek at the toys Santa had put under the tree at my dads house. Except there were no toys. There were 2 outfits laid out and those were the only things under the tree. I felt a little bit disappointed, but I think even at that age I already had a concept of money and that my parents never really had a lot of it. So I also felt bad for my dad. I tried to act as excited as I could the next morning. But those outfits really became my favorite. 2 bodysuits and skirts (in the early 90s) I love them and I wore them out.
Once I became a parent and struggled with Christmas , I really appreciated it even more because I know how hard it is on a parent to not be able to get your kids very much or anything at all at Christmas. It’s a heartbreaking feeling. But he made sure I had something.. and they were really cute outfits. Probably one of my earliest memories of Christmas morning.
Giving yourself grace is so important. I’ve been trying to remember to give myself grace too. Q4 supposedly the best of the year, but I’ve struggled with being able to make the most out of it mainly because of illnesses in the family and myself. But I try to remind myself this is why I am doing this. To be able to be present and available when stuff like this happens. So I can slow down work when life is getting hectic and busy. So that I can rest when I need to. So that I can be fully present to my family when extra needs arise.

Sometimes disappointment from slow sales contributes to burnout, like I am pedaling a stationary bike. This feeling doubles if it seems like everybody else is getting good sales and I am stuck. When I feel disgusted and discouraged, I give myself permission to walk away for a few days and only do the urgent stuff. I will ship, but won't list, watch videos or do reselling related stuff. I like nature and talking walks and think both the movement and the nature help. Sometimes I'll make almost a whole day for it. I also love to thrift and find that relaxing and enjoyable (although when I feel overloaded with stuff I don't give myself permission to do it). Sometimes getting new stuff gives a little extra energy to work on the older stuff too. I am running a 60% off sale for a few weeks as well, then 75%, then donate it after that, it's hard to let go but saying goodbye to old listings is helpful and they won't be dragging down my store anymore (many of these listings are bad buys from years ago and have been building up). We may be moving so I am working to minimize my inventory right now. I am also planning on taking a listing break from Christmas through New Years while visiting family. Hope you find a lot of time of rest and refreshment. Christmas season tends to be busy because on top of the regular chores, we are getting ready for the holiday. I love it, but it does add a lot of extra work.

Take that downtime friend. Thank you for everything that you do and share with us. Merry Christmas!!
I love that the thoughtful gift from your husband helped "brew" your love for coffee. My best gift was from my youngest son. The Christmas after my grandmother passed, he commissioned an artist friend of his to paint a picture of the Cafe Texan (oldest cafe in Texas), where my grandmother waited tables for nearly 40 years. I spent much of my childhood there with her, so what a beautiful surprise to receive such a meaningful gift that will forever hang in my diningroom.

Same here on the burn out. This is very time consuming when you don't have any help. I had a maintenance emergency and 3 dr appointments in the matter of 2 weeks plus regular life. I have to drive to my storage unit when I sell something not in the house and the past 2 weeks have been rough and when you are only making low profits THAT is what gets to you too. I'm taking the day off and making cookies and cleaning my house! Tomorrow I'm going to do bubble wrap items for inventory (I like that) and I will get back to listing on Monday because I am not feeling well either. Go chill out for a bit you need it! Have some cocoa with the kids. Thanks for the video.

Hey it’s life. It happens. You’re lucky you are your own boss and can take a break for as long as you want. Isn’t that part of the reason you became a reseller? To do it on your terms. You are fortunate. Not all of us have that built into our jobs. We just plug along. So enjoy your break. Happy Holidays.

Enjoy your time. Break well deserved. Have a very Merry Christmas. 🎄🎁
I once rec’d a gift that I absolutely did not want. An electric typewriter. In my family my mom did the shopping. But I will never forget as a teenager I saw a heavy box for me. My mom smiled and said any ideas of what that is. I in my teenage attitude I said I believe it is either a sewing machine or typewriter …I do not want either but if it is one or other keeping my fingers crossed for the sewing machine! My mom’s expression changed a bit and she said when you open that I want you to remember your dad shopped for this item and spent time shopping, and ensuring he got the very best we could afford. I ended up with a great electric typewriter that I packed around for quite a long time. It made me happy, but never enjoyed typing! 😉🎄❄️❤️

Hi Jen and I can totally relate. I have a full time job and Ebay is my side hustle which has turned into what feels like a full time job. My burnout is due to feeling like I do not have a good grip on my Ebay business. For the remainder of the year I’m only going to add a few items to my inventory. Currently spending time verifying that I have all items that’s listed and tweaking listings that have typos. Please take a break and enjoy family time!

I’m feeling a little burnt out too. My day job is super intense, my husband is away from the house at least 12 hours a day, so I cook dinner and do most of the house work, and after dinner I’ll work a couple hours photographing and listing. If I don’t get much done during the week, I try to make up for it on the weekend. Thanks for the video. I will think about what I can tweak so that it doesn’t feel like my entire existence is work😂! Enjoy your break and your time with your family. I hope you come back, renewed and refreshed. Happy Christmas!

Thank you for being real! I watch a lot of resellers on UA-cam who claim to sell everything for $35 or more and it just doesn’t ring true to me. I started reselling in mid October, so I’m still trying to find my sea legs! ❤

We’re heading out of town got Christmas and I put my platforms on time away for 2 weeks so I can get a plan together and start fresh in the new year. You’re right we do need to take some time to care for yourself. Merry Christmas to you and your family and get some well deserved rest 🤩

Hi Jenn, you hit the nail on the head with burn out with me. I am feeling it. I been selling for just over 1 year. I have had a bacteria infection for almost 3 months, c-diff, and my son, with 3 small children is going through marital problems. I have been going over there 6-7 days a week for 11 - 12 hour days. I am burned out! I been taking my listings back and forth to keep working on them. What do I do? Normally work through it. A little slower, with a nap or two, but keep plugging away. But your ideas sounded much better! Going to implement a few. Lisa in CA
