I love reading these comments!! Especially the ones that disagree with me 😂 I totally agree that what is on "trend" and what sells on the resale marketplace are two different things. In this video, I was really coming to it with the perspective of my new business model in which I focus on this question: what sells really fast for a high ASP? I had a long intro where I discussed that but I cut it because it was boring lol. But I hope that provides some context. Of course some of these styles will still sell in particular situations (agree with some comments that plus size is a bit different, for example), but I still think these are all really good rules of thumb for me while I'm sourcing. But again, love hearing what you specifically agree or disagree with!
Most things will sell eventually but much fewer will sell quickly. Excellent summary. I hate warehousing items. I want inventory to come in and go out quickly.
love your content and that it sparks conversations! I've been selling on posh for 8 yrs (edgeofelizabeth) and your tips have really helped my business improve! ❤
Snake skin is starting on the up trend now. Also my UGG real shearling sold for $120 on Posh recently. I do think that some faux styles are in bad shape or have limited wear and that’s why they aren’t selling. But there are many Gen Z buyers who look for unique, well made clothing that was dated in the 2010s. It’s a niche but selling. However, I don’t have much invested in these items. Trends are going so fast. I never thought leopard print would be so hot, but it is now. Then in a few months something dated comes back in fashion. However, I do agree that many things on the list of “don’t pick up” are a wait and see if they come into trending. These items will most likely be at thrift stores next month, so I wait and see.
back to this comment less than 24 hrs later and I sold a snakeskin dress last night that had been sitting for a year!! 😅 @mqua4610
Yes! Same. I’ve sold moto, zipper items and floral jeans recently. 🤣
I have been selling a lot of the styles on this list recently 😂 Most people don’t care about trends they just buy what they like.
Especially Boho and Prairie Styles. I’m still selling all of that with no problem, good ASP. I think it just depends on print and the actual cut and size. I’ve been watching UA-cam style and trend influencers and Boho is on track to shine this year. 🤷🏻♀️
I just sold a cowl neck sweater, you're right. I look up brands that do well too.
@@monicatill4450 I sold a Rachel Zoe Mohair leopard print cowl neck sweater last month for $49( that’s 3 no-nos that are selling). I think there are so many factors in this video that make it unique to her business. I find that if you do research, keep listing and make the algorithm happy, you make sales. Having a reselling business is so unique to the seller, I don’t know how anyone can have a blanketed no- no list anymore. 🤷🏻♀️
@@mandyott3037 Yup I think the days of chasing trends is gone honestly. People are more into having a distinct personal style whether it is "trendy" or not
@@monicatill4450 Yes brand is always important to get seen. Even if the style is not "as popular" it will still get seen by someone who likes it eventually because of the brand.
Agree on all of this. As a reseller, I watch fashion vlogger videos to get a sense of what is in/out of style. And Mogi sells items on a much larger scale than the common reseller so this is a macro level explanation of what’s not as popular right now.
Great info and relaxing music. The volume of the music is perfect. It didnt drown you out while talking. It’s appreciated.
My no-go styles...cold shoulder, eyelash sweaters, vegan leather, high heels, peep/open toe, off the shoulder, anything that's too hard to figure out how to tie/wrap.
Great video! I appreciate the info. Thought you did a good job of saying this is your opinion and there are almost always caveats. Plus, we can listen to you and then go do whatever we want! I'm a retired teacher and depend on you youngins to help me stay within current general trends. Thank you!
Nothing is selling well nowadays 😭 There’s so much competition and everything is super saturated. I’m a hobby seller, but can’t imagine if this was my full time job 😮
Agreed - and so many low ball offers.
I can't imagine boho going out of style ever. I think its here to stay. I haven't sold any jeans in nonths and I have a variety of styles. I am about to re photo amd relist them all.
Skinny jeans still selling for me, but more so in Plus sizes. Vegan leather still selling here and there. Hard to keep up w trends , by the time you get things listed-they are no longer “on trend”.
Yes people just buy the larger sizes to get the roomy fit.
I agree with most of this. Knee high boots sell fast for me. Only chunky heel booties or Dr Martens. White Black Blue jeans. Wide leg , bootcut or flare. Some straight leg. I’m selling a lot of jeans lately. Cowboy boots kids womens men’s. Black leggings always a pick up. Wide leg pants, linen anything. Silk dresses, cashmere sweaters. High end swim. Birks, crocs. All things I’m sourcing now.
I am so glad you did this video because each thing you list I naturally hate. However, I’ve bought these things because some UA-camr recommended them. When I first started sourcing about a year ago I only bought things I liked and they sold well.
But as time went by, I started buying more stuff I would never ever ordinarily buy like moto jackets and vegan leather. So, what you’re talking about here has reaffirmed that I need to trust myself and my gut feelings and quit listening to UA-cam.
Thank you!
The only resellers I can recommend listening to are MogiBeth, CommonTags, and JMSquared.
Awesome video. I’ve been reselling for only less then a year and only things I have left from my first purchase in Jan 2024 and can’t sell are on this list…snakeskin, vegan and real leather, ❤zippers, ALL shoes, skinnies, cut outs, etc. love the validation that its not just me lol, thank you!. What has sold… wide leg anything, oversized, boxy, preppy (old money) inspired items.
All things velvet are selling well for me right now
White denim sells amazingly well for me. As does black denim.
True. I have an off white denim jacket which is collarless and it's been great! Sometimes people just want to switch around their wardrobe and denim is a good way of doing it.
Everyone needs a great pair of black denim jeans 🙂
It's funny I would consider myself somewhere in between beginner and intermediate seller and I have sold white jeans twice!! I thought it was kinda weird too because it just seems like a harder item to sell. Crazy
@@jamiesimmons1I think different sellers have differing items that sell well for them. My daughter and I are both resellers and live in the same area and we both have differing items that sell well for us.
@@kathiekesterson9635 yes, definitely I agree it somehow just comes together and before you know it you've established your own personal sales niche and I often wonder about repeat buyers or is it worth making extra effort to engage with people who have only bought once? I don't yet think I have a single repeat buyer but could I still benefit by maybe at least looking at the sales I have gotten in the past and figuring out what I have sold the very most of ...your response and feedback is appreciated but not imperative. I'm just trying to learn more I think it's important.
Studding detail is actually Huge right now in handbags, belts and shoes but what isn’t is, stiletto heels. A kitten heel, a ballet flat, a mule/clog would sell very vell though.
There also might be a difference between fashion trends and reselling trends 🤷♀️
Another example is skinny jeans. Skinny jeans have been off trend for 5ish years to a point I would guess they will be fully back by the end of 2025. They’ve been shown on runways and some fashionistas have been spotted wearing them in the past 6 months.
Yesss just watched a style vlogger & she had this studded bag that is super sought after. Also she was wearing skinny jeans with riding boots another trend I’ve been seeing with style bloggers
I agree 100%. I have some nice booties that would have sold in a minute a couple of years ago that are now just sitting. Personally, I was all about the Boho asthetic for the longest time but now I am looking to buy (for me) cashmere, silk, blazers, classic white button down shirts, etc... I know that "quiet luxury" is already kind of passe so I like your term "Old money". I tend to thrift to my own taste so a lot of Boho is snoring in my eBay store and Posh closet right now. I am VERY part time so I need to pick up pieces that make sense. Thanks for your video, Mogi.
Hobby/part-time re-seller here. I sold 2 pairs of black leggings on Poshmark pretty quickly. It took months to sell burgundy LuLulemon leggings and I was surprised by that..they ended up finally selling for only $20!
Thank you for the information,l know you work hard to put this info together. I really appreciate it . Take care God blessed you 🌷✨✨✨✨
I agree no colored leggings UNLESS you happen to find the matching sports bra/top in the came color or pattern. Matching sets yea! But not on its own
you are well versed on the correct wording for fashion pieces. you are right on point about colored leggings and peep toe heels, two of which i have listed which are struggling badly lol ....whats wonderful is that we learn :) ........i recently picked up a cold shoulder top but i would have never done that if it were not for the cool western print which is on. hopefully that saves it!
Super advice
I couldn't agree more with your choices
Refined tailored look pieces are where it's at
Super helpful! Happy new year!
Loved this video!!!! These type of videos are so helpful. Thank you! I’d love to see more like this.
I agree with them all honestly… specially the BOOTIES. I have so many cute styles that have been sitting forever. Honestly I’m really surprised by this bc I’ve always loved booties for this time of year.
Studs, fringe and modern boho are very in, but in modern styles.
Also, waterfall cardigan sweaters
I hate that trend it's been around since the 1980s, some trends just won't die a natural death....
Boho Moto was super hot on the runways for this spring and summer, so maybe you’ll be able to move those types of pieces soon.
This list is right on. I can’t get booties to sell either. It’s been a struggle for me with shoes in general. Thank you for passing on the knowledge! Happy New Year to you and your family!
I still do well with printed leggings in the following brands: Black Milk, K-deer, and Constantly varied Gear. Some I have sold within only a couple hours of posting.
Good information, but hard to listen to the video with the music in the background.
SO TRUE about the booties! I’m actually happy to hear someone else say this. I thought I was going crazy. I have heard, and experienced, that the slightly longer bootie is still selling. Not sure what that is called!
Don’t care about trends and I think people will buy what they want or need. Some of the BOLO brands will sit around too.😮
I totally agree. I believe that style should be higher on the priority list than brand. No point picking up a piece just because it’s from a trendy brand if it’s an ugly or boring piece.
I loved this video! Great information. The only thing I slightly disagree with is neon - I think it does well for us, but I need to look at actual numbers. I so agree with printed and color jeans - it took me YEARS to figure that one out. This video was great and informative - THANKS!!!
Thank you for this awesome information You are awesome!
Funny story about the “cut-out” being out of style, I went to a celebrity fundraiser black-tie event in Beverly Hills a couple of months ago and noticed almost all the ladies had some type of cut-out detailing on their gowns! I was like, did I miss the memo or something LOL! I guess my gown could have been looked at as having a cut out too since it was a one-shoulder gown LOL! Great info, I definitely took some notes for my next visit to the thrift.
Haha.. I just have to laugh (not at you, just at the irony). I stopped for lunch and watched your video on the way to the post office to ship yesterday’s pretty decent sales. Included in my packages sitting in the backseat right now is a Tie Dye Disney Spirit Jersey (another reseller was talking about how they no longer sell), a posh bundle of skinny jeans, (that were mine not thrifted lol), a cowl neck Eileen Fisher sweater, a lace fit flare (that could be argued is body con) dress, a shearling purse, and wait for it …Booties!! (They are Doc Marten so they kind of don’t count I guess ).
Either the trends are not quite dead or my buyers are not trend seekers. Just buy what they like and are happy someone is selling. 🤷🏼♀️
I agree with a couple of your “nope not picking” that up styles though. Off shoulder and cold shoulders will not sell for me. Luckily I realized that super quick and try not to buy.
Thanks for the video .. have a great day.
I feel like this list is a tad hit and miss. I still sell skinny, colorful, printed, distressed jeans really well! There are many people who like a style and just stick with it regardless of “trend” bc it works for their lifestyle/body type.
And I still sell peep toes heels and booties just fine. It’s crazy how different peoples experiences can be!
Can you pretty please do this style of video every 2-3 months? 🤣 No, but seriously, so helpful and trends are changing so quickly these days. P.S. I still love my cowl necks and skinny jeans. 😂 Thanks Morgan! ❤
I also think you could delete the stock photos from your Anthro dress listing and maybe it'll sell quicker. On the hanger it doesn't look off shoulder necessarily.
Super helpful, thank you. Especially things like booties and peasant styles, things that are recently popular or popular for a long time are good to know.
I’m seeing bodycon tight short dresses are coming back in style! I saw homecoming and snowball formal pictures of the class of 2024 and I was like whoa 😳 even in my high school days I’d never
Very helpful. Thank you!
Happy New Year! Totally agree with you on this list.
I had to laugh, just this past week I listed the exact zebra striped jeans you showed LOL. My problem is that I see the brand, in this case Frame, and don’t think about other factors beyond that. Thank you for your videos, they’re appreciated!
I'm also seeing a really wide cuff on denim jeans coming back. Definitely seeing trends moving away from boho and prairie to more structured preppy and quiet luxury.
Most women these days are heavier than they were 15 plus years ago. I’m 66 and people who are in their 20s and 30s weight about 20 plus pounds more than I did at that age.
Spot on!! I would add capri leggings...I can't give them away!!!
Wellllllll, I feel like you just described 50% of my closet 😂 And honestly, I can’t disagree. You may be spot on because so much of what you mentioned is what isn’t selling for me. This was super helpful!!!
@@ErinMe before you go dumping anything out of your closet, check prices, keywords and relist. Then See if you need to edit the items out. I didn’t thrift the whole month of December and just relisted. I did these changes and every 5 I relisted, I made a sale. Worth a shot. 👍🏼🤷🏻♀️
Great video! So helpful. Thank you!
Wow! This info
Is so helpful and explains why some of my stuff isn’t moving 😂
Great video. Thank you!
I agree with you on booties. I love to wear them as an elder millennial and have some high quality ones from 10 years ago plus, but have a few pairs now sitting 6+ months later.
I have recently sold a Burgundy Snake Embossed Leather Jacket. 🤷🏼♀️
Wow literally listing cowl neck sweaters right now..lmao. all good I bought for a dollar 😊😊thx for info..learn important info every day from you❤😊
Lots of the stuff mentioned sells very well actually.... fringe, boho and peasant and bodycon???? these are still desirable. you are either picking up the wrong outdated items or pricing them too high
I still sell skinny, at least in fall winter people still want to wear them with tall boots or snow boots, I cannot seem to move the mom jeans though :(
I wear them with sweatshirts and oversized sweaters. Wide leg and mom jeans look awful with big shirts.
Agree with your video!!! You rock!!
How do you style your products?
I just sold a beautiful Spell & The Gypsy dress that had tassels for $125.00, so I guess it depends on the style, color and pattern of the dress. I will continue to pick up Spell because they have a following and it always sells well for me regardless of whether it's on trend or not.
Hi Mogi-I sell clothes in an antique mall. I agree with you on all your suggestions. However- Studded shoes/purses/belts as well as the Brighton look in leather tooled pieces sells very well. The Moto look is still huge.
CarHartt, Military style coats, Fur trimmed collared anything, Lady like trends, 80's, 90,s and lastly The "almost famous " look sells very quickly. JCrew/Ann Taylor (Lady like pieces) surprisingly sells well.
I sort by quality/feel/ weight of the fabric. I buy mid price-leather purses from 80-90,s and they sell great.
I am storing Under Armour/North Face and overly pretty detailed things for a while. The Sporty look seems to be moving toward Prepster/Academia as you mentioned for sure. Details are important -buttons-good heavy zippers.
Vintage Jewelry/pins are huge.
Teapots..
Granny afghans I pick up for 5.99 sell for 18.00-25.00. Just fly out of my booth. Easy profit.
Thanks for your great video's.
I totally agree with your list, thanks Mogi!
I agree: off ahoulder and cold shoulder style are not selling
yup, i agree with what you said about printed + colorful leggings!
🎆Happy New Year!!
You are saying this as I have a pile of clothes still to list with ALL these things (I did buy them 2 years ago LOL)... I seriously hate selling clothes, but still have about 5 Ikea bags worth to get through. I never liked studded or off the shoulder, so I don't have those, but I do have skinny jeans, peasant tops and printed leggings LOL. Moral of the story, when you get a hot item, LIST IT!! I guess, Ill just put them away until they become either back in style or "vintage" LOL. The bodycon dress thing surprises me... I have been looking at all the young girls dresses over the holidays and they have ALL been bodycon mini dresses.
Same here, lol! I feel you, I say we just keep listing them. :)
Not sure if you already tried but maybe try adding stiletto, high heels, evening wear , pumps. Maybe take out studded and use embellished or metal rivets. It could possibly be the size if they were a size 7 or 8 they would probably be gone.
Totally agree with all of these, Mogi! Great video, very very helpful to have it spelled out. Why are the thrifts TEEMING with these styles (esp skinny jeans)!?
I live in florida it sells like crazy. still in there
If you were a teen in the early 00s, preteen late 90s... just think back to your closet then. Thats what is selling. I know. I know. But here we are. 😅
Breton striped sweater
Skinny jeans are still selling well for me. The rest of the information is spot on.
Fringe is all over spring & summer 2025 Runway shows so they one surprised me
Thank you for this!
Cold shoulder a definite no!
But off shoulder believe it or not both my mom and my daughter likes lol
Boho is supposed to be making a comeback......I guess not. I live in the Southwest.(New Mexico) Western is always in even when it isn't.
🤣 I didn't even like neon in the 80s, when everyone was waring it.
I am kind of sad about the peasant maxi dresses going out of style - I got 3 left with tons of likes but they are not moving!
I feel like you made a similar video before, but the information is definitely still relevant.
Happy new year!
Happy New Year!!! 🎊
I have seen Depop sellers selling off the shoulder sweaters really well.
With so many of us on Mounjaro who have lost a lot of weight the last thing we want to carry on our bodies would be any heavy baggie jeans. I’m all about the skinny jeans.
Skinny jeans? In MAIAZINE's recent video with FIT students in NY, several of the students all said they're looking for skinny jeans for 2025. Personally in the last two months I have sold every piece of skinny jeans I have had listed online and over 20 pairs at markets I sold at in December. I live in Los Angeles and most of the ones I sold went to the east coast or here on the west coast so maybe it's more of fashion forward trend rather than popular everywhere.
Yes my skinny jeans are suddenly selling like crazy
What kind of jeans do you wear with long boots? If not skinny jeans.
Bootcut
I live on the East and West coast. Basically, I think styles rely on the person. Age, lifestyle, kids, grandparents, etc.
I just heard you say shearling jackets aren’t doing well. Why then do I receive regular compliments on my jacket? I think off base and really don’t know what most people are doing.
It’s winter time so I’m not surprised neon is out but I foresee neon green making a big appearance for early summer
I thought I saw a video just recently that said snakeskin was in?
Soooo basically my entire wardrobe is out😂
love the video. background music though-not a fan..
I sell Aztec printed jeans all the time
Vegan leather is sitting for me too :( hoping it comes back because I’ve got several beautiful pieces and agree on printed leggings and colored denim!! Those don’t move for me at all, might as well redonate. Also, I pass 100% of the time on cold shoulder tops!!
this is very helpful
Skinny jeans and biker boots are both big trends for 2025. Otherwise I agree with all of the others in my experience.
Thefashionzen
Western inspired booties don’t sell, the kind with the point toe and block heel. Street style lugg sole gothic inspired booties are popping now. Traditional style cowboy boots sell great..
I had to laugh when I checked the Poshmark trends for today and floral/printed jeans were on trend!
I agree with you , and its kinda weird as peep toe and leopard are suddenly hot for 2025.
I really don't like styles of jeans that are trending now, they look horrible on me, as does oversized clothing. I still wear my skinny and slim jeans. But I do like the old money look.
I will clarify that I will most definitely sell trends I don't like. I sell lots of styles I think are hideous! 😂
Thanks… this is helpful
Great video, I heard peep toe was supposed to be in for 2025, so maybe they will start selling a little better in the spring.
I think that size has to be considered in peasant tops and skinny jeans; I'm still moving these in plus size. Booties and heels have also been a slow sell. A style I stopped picking up is tie dye. Happy New Year everyone!!!
I agree with you on these. I can’t wear printed leggings without getting crazy looks. And I can’t sell the cow neck tops.
I totally agree with the vegan leather items! They do not move at all.. ugh
I just sold a pair of red leggings & my only reason for picking them up was red is the hot color for the season
Carhart overalls look good on anyone. Damn good.
