  • Today, I am bringing you with me on my budgeting journey. We will be going over the paycheck that I received on March 1, 2019. After 9 years, this is the first budget that I am budgeting my money once a month.
Before, I got paid on the 5th and the 20th, which means I was creating a budget every time I received a paycheck. Now that I am self-employed full-time, I get a paycheck once a month, on the last day of the month.
In this video, I walk you through every step of my budget and give you the details into what it looks like with a once-a-month budget.
I have been sharing my real budget for over a year on Instagram, but only recently started sharing my budget on UA-cam. By sharing my actual budget, I hope to show you the process and steps behind paycheck budgeting. I also hope it helps you understand the psychological decisions behind money management.

I get paid weekly but I save the entire amount and "pay" myself that amount at the beginning of the following month. This has helped out immensely because I have all my utility bills charged on my credit card (I pay it in full when I receive the bill), so I already know what my bills vs pay will be. Oh....another bunch of pretty envelopes you've come up with! Great video!

Great and informative video. You are very easy to listen to because you are so articulate and you enunciate and I appreciate that. I was going to comment that I thought you could have used to cut down the explanations at some points but it appears that it's helping other people so that's better than leaving people confused. Good job working towards those savings goals! I have been taking a long hard look at our finances this year and really challenging myself to find more money to throw at our long term savings. We are receiving a substantial hike in income later this year and I want to make sure that I have a plan for it so that it doesn't end up getting "nickle and dimed" away.

Thank you for sharing. I find your videos so informative and helpful. I myself use my credit card to pay for everything but my regular bills. This helps me to accumulate points and helps to fund vacations. I am attempting to incorporate my ideas with your budget ideas which are great! So with that said I have been waiting for you to hit a particular point. You came close for this video....If your electric bill would have been $200.... and you would have needed to tap into the cushion in the checking, how do you mark that on your paperwork without it appearing to be extra income. Since you have already counted it when you put it in the checking account. Thanks again!!

However i was wondering if you might do a video on what to do if you find yourself a little out of balance or low on funds for the month? You have inspired me to really get my finsnces in check.

Love the new trackers!!! Right up my bullet journal alley 😍 Question, say you have X amount of money left over to roll into the next month for a bill at the first of the month, would you just track that on your last paychecks of the month tracker? I know every dollar has to have a job so I’m curious as to what you’d suggest ☺️

Thank you for another great video, Kumiko! As for your cushion, when the cushion is finally worth of $1,000, do you remove this expense ($80) from your bills table (until you need to re-fill it back to $1K, of course)?

I love how detailed you are because it makes it so much easier to follow and understand your methods. I definitely want to try this and subbed to your vids! I do wonder, when you have leftover in last months cash envelopes and you rollover the change, what do you do with the other amount? The 50s or 20s or 100s you had leftover? Is it placed into savings and how do you decide which one?

Hi! I just as of yesterday bought your 2019 budget workbook. But the paycheck bill tracker page is different then this layout and I like this layout much better- I love that it has a spot for sinking funds. Is there a way to choose this way instead, without having to spend another $30?

I purchased your pdf budget workbook but I much prefer this cash envelope breakdown worksheet rather than what's in the new notebook of just the teller slips.. I love this worksheet because it's a visual tally that I could quickly count up for the teller slip. Do you still offer this worksheet on your website? I have tried looking for it with no luck.
Thank you for your help and wonderful videos. I've been having a lot of fun putting together my budget binder.

Hello! I am CLEARLY late to the party, but this was super helpful! The only part that wasn't clear to me was when you 'saved' some of the leftover money in the envelope (i.e. in miscellaneous you had $14, so you 'saved' the $10 and left the $4 in there). Where are you putting those savings? Do they go somewhere specific every time, or does it vary based on where you are focusing? A savings acct, extra debt, added to your sinking funds so you reach your goals faster? Any other savings challenges? Thank you for all of your explanations!

Great video. My question is would I need to do this if I really don't have any spending going on except fixed bills and debt repayment. I've basically put myself on nearly complete spending restrictions. Also, how do I determine how much to budget for sinking funds? And is there a list of what constitutes each cash envelope category? I buy beauty type stuff and dog food w/ my groceries. I'm confused on how to handle this stuff

Hi Miko....this video is so relatable to me because of the two paydays a month....Question: I see that you pay your first week bills in the previous month so does that mean that you start your expense tracking on your first paycheck of the month instead of the first of the month (relating to March)?

I would think you could go online and make that change to happen at the beginning of the month and if in a interest bearing account means you earn interest earlier on the that second deposit.
