On a side note - a nice idea for some future videos would be a walk/drive through various residential neighborhoods. It's easy enough to find youtube videos of walks through the cities/town, but very rarely does one get to see the residential side of things. It would be really nice to see what the houses look like, how they're laid out etc. I know you can't walk us through the inside of random people's houses (that would be SUPER cool but VERY awkward to record), but even just up and down the streets so one can get the view of the outside of the houses, the playparks close by, the general neighborhood feel etc.
Great idea! I will work on that!
Haha, love the added touch of the "10 seconds later" with how fast they get putting through the groceries!
So fast! :-)
I shop in lidl hear in UK and find thats its only a few things cheaper than other stores. As with a lot of things you have to have a good memory and be able to go to different stores.Good tip about packing your bags ,if you suffer anxiety.
Prices seem to change weekly! Wish my salary would do the same :-)
So happy to see your smiling face again! Thanks for the update it was very useful!
A cost of living comparison would be great if you could do that again?
Keep smiling. I love your blogs! ❤❤
Thanks so much! I will do a cost of living comparison again soon!!
Many thanks as always for a great vid. In terms of packing at till, and shopping generally. Yes bringing you own bags is a given, but my biggest tip is bring hubby/partner. Go with list. Divide list, halve time shopping and two of you can pack faster than cahier can scan, so avoiding time at shelf And finally, as well as prices rising, exchange rate has also increased, so for SA viewers, rate with Euro is now just about 20 to 1, so for Rands, multiply shelf prices by 20. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for your comment and great tips!!
I love watching shopping videos! Thanks for this. I also love the way they label their 3L milk as "family size" and that you can buy lids for the yoghurts.
Thanks so much!
😂 I can't believe I never considered packing the shopping after I've paid! That's such great advice, Bronwyn! I've been avoiding Lidl and Aldi because I couldn't pack at the same pace as the scanning 😂
I always make them wait to be paid, they fidget a lot, a bit like a fish out of water, great place to use cash, never been turned down.....Yet.👍
I can't work under pressure!! lol... I prefer to take my time... zero anxiety!!
Good advice
Glad it was helpful!
Glad to see I can still afford chocolate and wine don’t know what you’re meant to do with all the other stuff these shops sell
Can't go without the chocolate and wine!!
When your a professional Irishman like me , your never forget your bags & you have to wait for the casher to scan the next item to pack it
Haha, I will strive for excellence!
Pretty similar to PicknPay. So expensive for the last 6 months. Love those massive chickens. Hate the scrawny things here. Can you get turkey products year round? Please keep posting these.
The chicken here is amazing! The whole turkeys are brought out over Christmas time but you can always find turkey meat, mince etc.
Is lidi cheaper than shoprite
Would be interesting to do a side by side comparison. I'm not sure as I haven't looked at the price of SA shops for a long time.
Hi, i am from Indonesia. I live in Israel now. I am thinking to study for PhD in Ireland
Sorry, you aren't comparing like with like, as regards eggs anyway. 6 large free range eggs were €1.89 previously not €1.19, that was the price for battery farm eggs.
Otherwise a good video, thanks.
Thanks so much... hard keeping up when prices are changing weekly :-)
Who would have thought that a video about shopping in Lidl would be so interesting.
It was interesting to see the comparison in prices from before and now. The Irish Economy is booming, we are a scarily wealthy country at the moment, employment is very high, wages are high and most people don't flinch at the crazy prices that are being asked for goods/services. And... it looks as if it will continue for some time, for good or for bad. Even with the interest rate hikes, affordability in general is still very strong.
I was in a Lidl in the Canary Islands recently, it was kind of surreal because the layout was the exact same as in Ireland ! But..... the prices were not. For the exact same product you might only have to pay 50% of what it costs in Ireland. Its interesting, some of your tips I didn't get, what is the alternative to returning your shopping trolley ? Not returning it ? Surely you then lose your coin or your keys if you are using a key fob. I was also amused about your tip to pack your bags away from the cash register as they are so quick. Is this not the same in South Africa ? I would have expected that they also use barcode scanning. Maybe I'm missing something, sorry...
One tip to add !
I recently was exiting a Lidl and a lady on front of me had stopped her trolley next to the bins before the main door. She was taking off the packaging from items and disposing of them in the Lidl bins. She said to me "why not let them pay for disposing of them". The first thing I do when un-packing my shopping at home is place all of that packaging in our bin which we have to pay for ! I don't always remember to but it makes a lot of sense.
BTW - I loved the way that you couldn't resist the Boer Sausages !
"Its interesting, some of your tips I didn't get, what is the alternative to returning your shopping trolley ? Not returning it ? Surely you then lose your coin or your keys if you are using a key fob."
I've watched a good few videos by this lady and what is clear is that there are different standards for almost everything in different countries/continents.
If you don't get the returning of a shopping cart, search in UA-cam: Cart Narcs
It may explain, somewhat, the returning cart conundrum that you take for granted.
Maybe not every country in the world needs someone to use coins/fobs for cart access? And the then disregard for returning them.
Hi, thanks so much for your comment. In South Africa we have people who look after our cars in the parking lot and they will often help you unpack your groceries into the car and take your trolley back for you, you then give them a few € for the service. Our trolleys there don't have the coin release so often the trolleys are left all over the show. As for packing bags, people are employed in supermarkets to pack your groceries for you... which comes at quite a surprise for many people I tell. I've never known any different so packing my own groceries caused slight anxiety!! Thats a great tip about disposing of packaging! I might start doing that!!
