I can remember going to games here as a kid. We always sat in the bleachers. I also remember it was before they had nets behind home plate and I can also remember seeing a catcher get trucked at home plate.
You took your lives into your own hands when you sat behind the backstop without a net. I remember that at a ballpark in Pittsfield, Mass. One foul ball could knock someone in the head! I would love to hear more memories of watching games at the old ballpark.
Razor is still a local legend here in Indianapolis. I arrived in town a year too late to see a game and was unaware that the stadium was standing until 2002! Thos must have been some great times at the old ballpark.
@@BallparkHunter Have you ever been to McBride Stadium in Richmond?? It’s a Great old ballpark where back in the day the Reds played a few games there! It’s been used for minor league baseball for several years like the Frontier league and several low a ball teams from Richmond played there! Back in the 1990’s it was the Richmond Roosters, now I believe it’s the River Bats?? Great place! The old Original wooden outfield fence still stands and it reminds me of the Polo Grounds⭐️😀
@@rodkemp1136 yes, I’ve been there a few times. They are home to the Jazz of the Great Lakes League. I even have a video from a recent trip. m.ua-cam.com/video/LajuxFPQ2Q4/v-deo.html
I arrived in town the next year and missed seeing a game at old Bush by a year. How I wish I could have seen a game at the old place. Thanks for the comment, be sure to subscribe if you haven't! I bet that is a program full of great photos and history.
@@BallparkHunter That was my summer vacation spot growing up, my grandparents lived on North Exeter Avenue just below 16th street less than a mile from the speedway. If you'd like I can email you some pictures of the program.
I remember going to games here as a kid. My favorite baseball player was Razor Shines and I remember getting his autograph on a program one time. It might actually still be buried deep in a pile of junk left in the attic of my parent's house somewhere. I might have to go searching for it on one of my trips going back to visit my folks.
My grandma used to live two blocks from here. Some of my earliest and best memories are right there. I remember when Mr. Dans hamburger joint was right there on the corner behind center field 😋 I want a Big Haus breakfast sandwich rn
Sadly, I never had the chance to see a game at the old ballpark, but I am glad that it was not 100 percent razed and replaced with an apartment complex. What they did was a nice compromise.
Okay, I think I just found my dream apartment! That is insanely cool! ❤
Yay! Thank you! I wanted to move in when the wife and I were looking for apartments, but she said no.
Did sports center bring you here
@@bigblue3216 I live in Indy, I remember when the ballpark was in ruins. I used to sneak in there to look around. I wish I had my camera at the time.

I attended lots of games there⭐️, I remember a player named Razor Shines in the 1980’s and several prominent Reds players through the years!

I still have an Indians program from 1996. I went to one of the last games played there, it was called the Sunset Season.

Mr. Dan's is still around but somewhere else in town. I bet it was great!
@@BallparkHunter delicious 😋 there's one location on E. Massachusetts and a new location on 46th and Allisonville rd
@@bigblue3216 I'll have to check it out again. It has been some time since I've been there.

That was awesome. Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Public housing/prison vibes.
It doesn't look that bad, but it was also designed to be a baseball stadium almost 90-years-ago, so I get it!
its all rite, wen its all white...
Hmmm?
