1098 will NOT lap quicker than an RSV. Pair of sellout Ducati fanboys. The Ducati has a stock claimed 14kw power advantage which isn't worthy of all their ranting on power delivery. Also as an RSV owner I can tell you that if you de-cat the exhaust and swap it to map two its mental when you head north of 6500rpm. Anyway ... enough wasted energy on these goons.

ugh , amazing how every other review of the Aprilia sings the praises of the torque on that bike. This is why I go to MCN to get real reviews.

  • @andrewrogers3240
    @andrewrogers3240 8 років тому +17

    How biased?
And when they show the clip of the two bikes flat-out on the straight (away) the Ducati isn't gaining ground over the Aprilia. Not such a flat power delivery then?
This is in effect a worthless review when they are so obviously looking for the continuing advertising revenue from Ducati and biasing their 'opinions accordingly.

  • @Wheelnut78

I test rode a 1198S back to back with my RSVR recently, bikes having similar mileage. I could not pick any difference in acceleration between to two from the saddle. You could lean the 1198 over a bit quicker going into turns but the aprilia felt a bit more stable and confidence inspiring in every other situation. Both are fantastic bikes, this comparison does feel a little biased.

  • @forzacfc

Matt, the bike comes as standard in road mode on the ECU mapping, take it to Aprilia and get it opened up to track mode map, both maps are supplied as standard on the bike from purchase, in UK costs $90 to switch mapping.

Aprilia is an Italian motorcycle brand, and has been around since 1945, you probably haven't heard about it because it's better known for it's 2 stroke bikes - like the RS 50, RS 125 and the RS 250.

Ya I don't get the "Flat" Comment about the RSV1000R. Mine has quite a few upgrades now and tuned at 140hp.. But Stock it still had lots of pull.. if a 600 is blowing by you or pulling a way from you.. You're doing something wrong on the Aprilia.. Love the V-Twin. They are right about the handling though. Sticks and Handles great.

I havent rode an aprillia but ive rode the 1098s and i thought it was the most awsome bike i have ever rode. The Brakes have insane power and have a nice feel to them. The motor pulls and revs very fast. The handleing i never pushed the bike hard but i was cornering at over 100 mph and it felt too easy. I bet the aprillia is nice to ride too.

  • @wcnetworks

I'm surprised at their review of the Aprilia. I have a 2009 RSV 1000R Factory, upgraded with an Akrapovic EV06 Racing Exhaust and the power output is quick and responsive. It does have good linear power but the throttle response is fantastic. I also find it easier to ride than the Ducati. The ergonomics of the Ducati leaves much to be desired.

  • @ronjanjua7270
    @ronjanjua7270 10 років тому +5

Wow.. solid torque power all the way through vs, a shot of power somewhere in the power band, and you choose the latter? So strong power all the way through is somehow less than a shot of power in a certain spot with weak spots elsewhere. Seems like bias to me. I like Ducs but the Aprilia is nothing to crap on like that. Motor on boil? If its linear all they way through why do you need to keep it on 'boil'? 600s pulling away from it? Throttle broken? Seriously is this any more obvious? I think your personalities are 'flat' lol

in the latest test the RSV factory beat the RC8, buell1125 and the ducati 1098S on the track.
When i am at a track and see a bike with mechanical trouble it is almost every time a ducati, that rotax of the aprilia is bullitproof.
I would love to own a ducati but it is to expensive and not relaible enough.
More bhp on the rsv would be nice but it kicks ducati ass every test on a proper race track.

I just did some roll-ons with my lightly modded RSVR against a 1198S with bling and an exhaust. I rode the 1198S as well. Both bikes are great but the 1198S could not out-accelerate me. The 1198S is rough off idle and the RSVR is buttery smooth. The 1198S is worth around $18 000, my RSVR, $8 000. I'll hang on to my RSVR thank you very much.

  • @Z_GT

I like how they say the 06 Factory RSV won masterbike, but are comparing a BASE model Aprilia to an S model 1098... Seems a little pointless. "We know the Factory is the best bike in 2006, but we're comparing the Base model". From my understanding the RSV Factory is about 16,999$ US, and the 1098S is about 18,999$ US. So the FACTORY wouldn't be a comparison and is still cheaper. Why compare apples and oranges here. I like both bikes but this is clearly biased.

If you test a bike in a circuit remember that Aprilia needs a rider who has a deeply feeling with it, and you haven't got. RSV needed to jam on the brakes later than others, also swinging the rear, and let it run inside the curves, especially in the fast ones. On the wet it was superior, great and confident. Try to do your test under the rain, riding faster, not wheeling and nothing else. Nowadays with it you may have great fun!! Test it in a normal winding road for real users, it's the best.

  • @x1tekja

The Aprilia is the bike you buy if you want a great handling bike you can live with every day. The Ducati is what you buy if you are going to the track or like to push it to the limit. Both are great bikes although the Duc is more capable as a sportsbike out of the box. The Ape has great potential but you need to remap and modify it if you happened to buy it stateside.

Having personally ridden the RSV1000R and a Base 1098 with the Termi upgrade, I do have to admit that the 1098 has a lot more charachter not than just the Aprilia, but nearly any bike on the road. This will sound weird, but the only other machine I have ridden to date with a difinative charachter like the 1098 is the Triumph Daytona 675.

its not fair really to compare the aprilia RSVR that hasn't really changed seens 2004 to the new ducati 1098. the motor in the aprilia is the same block thats been in the RSV seens it came out in 1998, aprilia has just been updating it all these years. when aprilia comes out with the RSVR 1200 we will see which bike is better.

@SngrLover Are you crazy dude... where did you get your information, Ducati, Bimoto, Aprilia and Benelli doesnt come from the same factory!!
In the early days, Bimoto had some Ducati engines and thats it, also Aprilia had some parts from a Ducati motor, but those days are over!!
But they are NOT from the same factory, if you go to Bologna they make 1 bike and thats Ducati!!

  • @Hornu2008

Its about the little things that make the difference, because in the end for us normal ppl everything thats a super car is impresive but as u get to know it l see the difference in the end and those differences are the ones that will make wana go for another ride. Thats the difference between a ducati and other bikes. Because in the end ducati made 2 cylinder motor a high performance one and the rest are just trying to get there but dont have the recipe.

  • @joedeats

I'm not saying these guys don't know what they are talking about but a linear and predictable power band is a good thing. Smooth is fast, linear is predictable and repeatable. Smooth in, smooth out equals fast.
I love both Bikes though, I love Ducati and Aprilia I just think they are judging them wrongly. The Ducati is a hooligan bike...I'm a hooligan so I love it, the Aprilia is a gentleman's bike, refined and smooth handling.

Geeeeez we don't all have tracks in the backyard. The RSV was designed for the road with the ability to more then handle track days. Anyone who has had the chance to ride both bikes will tell you that the RSV will eat the 1098 on normal roads where i think the majority of us ride. Ducati make beautiful bikes but they are not reliable. RSV - can't wait for the new stuff - gonna kick ass, me thinks.

This is a blatantly unfair comparison. You can't take a design has been unchanged in any real way since its release in 2004 and compare it to a much more recently designed and built machine and expect to see the same level of power. The Rotax that powers the RSV in my opinion has plenty of midrange power, especially if the bike is given a proper mapping. I feel that a serious lack of interest in unbiased review is apparent in this video. It seems only to be a good expo for a newer design.

The engine on the ducati will make the aprilia feel like a 600.. It pulls so hard from nothing. The ducati handles beautifly but I've not rode an aprilia so I can't compair. The Ducati's power is still usable but it does come awake on the sraight.. Test ride one for yourself. ps aprillia will own a 600

people bitch about the Ape being 10 years old, and the duc bein' new. Well, Duc's arent always known for Reliability, in the first place, and Ape not only has an engine that is KNOWN for reliability (Enduro records, check'em, Rotax), but now is going on 10 years of production. Versus the Ducati's 1-3.
To Ape riders - is the RSV1000 at all "twitchy" or "unforgiving", like a Jap 600 SS? Or more akin to a BMW M3, very kind unless you want to play hard? Transitioning from a 250R Ninjette.

@Moroccan4lifeone Why would you feel the need to write that? Its a V-Twin comparison. If you look up R1 you will find people who actually care about what you have to say. Off you go then.

@BigJohnStrong Oh lol. Get a real motorcycle and then comment. Your bike has 1/20th the capacity and nowhere near the innovation and peripherals of the RSV1000R.
Also, two strokes don't pull at low revs period.
