    The best thing for now is to spray blue spray or silver spray on the wounds. This way the red/pink color disappears and makes it no longer attractive for the chickens to peck at the skin. Hopefully this is helpful to you!
    PS. It is also immediately disinfectant, really great stuff!

    Jake, you do so much good for the hobbyist farmer by providing much needed info on how to care for animals and how to build some amazing structures to house those animals. Yesterday though, made me so sad. I understand the blinders and the aprons. Those are for the good of the individual chickens and the flock in general. The arms and pants were not. Those were simply for the amusement of the family (and UA-cam) and an unnecessary stress to that rooster. I actually stopped the video at 7:16 yesterday cause I couldn't watch any more. When I got up this morning, the video was still sitting there on my laptop. Am I the only one who wasn't laughing? Congrats on 1 MILLION subscribers though. I've been watching you guys for years.

    • @DeathJesterEloriya
      @DeathJesterEloriya Рік тому +1

      Hi MossyFrog, since you stopped at 7:16, you missed the part where they removed the pants before they left the run. The arms weren't in later shots either, so I expect those were removed as well, which is what I expected to happen given the history of the channel. They've been practical farmers, not cruel farmers.

    • @MrsMommy001
      @MrsMommy001 Рік тому

      @@DeathJesterEloriya You are right, THEY are not cruel farmers but they are farming influencers and need to set the stage for how to treat animals properly. In this case, I felt let down by their actions and compelled to make a comment since everyone else was laughing and cheering. I love this family and their channel. I look forward to further videos from them.

    I have a guinea roo who is a huge jerkwad. The only reason he's not dumpling soup and flyfishing lures is because he makes pretty babies. When he starts chasing subordinate hens out of the coop and away from food, he gets the glasses. Settles his fricassee right down. I swear by them.
    A farmer near me was selling off his guineas so I acquied 6 hens and another handsome roo; the flock acclimated nicely but my 2 boss hens needed the glasses due to bullying the newest, smallest hen. That's a no-go. Six weeks later everyone is happy, or as happy as those feathered balls of rage can be. 🙂

    So I’m a poultry service tech (turkeys) and commercially to help solve head pecking and other excessive pecking we put small amounts of iodine in the water. You’re right that when they get a taste for blood they won’t stop. And others can see that bright red and peck it more. Iodine stops the pecking
    I can give you the different rates for different levels of severity if you’d like. Remember our goal is to raise the healthiest largest birds in the shortest time possible. So we want quick turn arounds when we treat farms for various problems. Iodine is a natural mineral found in our bodies and is used by our endocrine system to regulate things like growth metabolism and other systemic functions. You may know that we add it to salt because of the importance in a healthy diet. Iodine will not harm your flock or degrade the quality of meat/eggs when used in the appropriate manner.
