GET A KICK BAR FOR THE MAMA COW. Doesn't hurt her, just prevents her from kicking you. You can put the mama in the milk stand with the kick bar on and put the baby on her so she can get enough to drink.
So glad to see that sweet baby born. Like y'all I was worried about her at first with her not eating. So grateful that she started feeding from Mom. I like the name Molly for her. God is so good, she is such a blessing.
So wonderful to see her thriving after such a tremulous start! I was thinking...with all that red fur, she would make an adorable Pippy, like Pippi (Thanks for the correct sp Carina Kaarli) long stockings. Keep at it guys!! You are an inspiration to us all!
Hooray! Welcome to the family little one! Maybe name her Daisy 🌼 like you know "loves me, loves me not" but instead "is she pregnant, is she not" or "will we have this calve today, or will we not" or "will she eat, or will she not" 😅
Beautiful baby girl I know you were watching Dolly threw out the night with the new calf just make sure the calf doesn’t get laid on that’s happened to me a couple times and it’s sad and scary!
when puppy was born I was watching this video with my sister she could not have so much joys since my bother was born . I hope she is reaching adult hood and have a baby on her own
What a journey ! I was so worried when she was on the ground with her head back after not eating but then so relieved to see she finally got it. Little dear. ❤
Congratulations on the new calf. We used to make sure the calf was feeding and would even put the cow in a head stall to allow the calf to eat. If, while milking, you tie the cow's legs together she will not be able to kick.
Thought about doing that... it was hard to get the calf to stay standing for very long, but that could have worked, too. We were getting frustrated and the calf didn't want to stand after awhile so we gave them both a rest till the next day.
@@whitehouseonthehill You could tie the cows legs back when milking until she gets more used to it. Then she should stand and will be a better nurser next time.
Congratulations to y'all on your new addictions on your farm. Look at all those big bright eye's (the kid's) hope the baby calf get better & stronger , I'm rootin for ya be safe , healthy & happy God Bless much love from Georgia 💚🐮🍁👍
My goodness I’ve been waiting to see this calf. I heard you at the end of the last video say calf’s coming out then ….. waiting. So glad to see her she’s adorable. I hope mom and baby get better at feeding. Thank you guys❣️
It never ceases to amaze me that calves are born and within minutes they are standing. Nature is truly amazing. I was going to say maybe you should hang in and make sure she gets the colostrum from her mom and I guess that's why it is always better to comment at the end lol. Great job and congrats on the sweet baby girl calve. I am quite new to the channel and am really enjoying watching your journey. You seem like an amazing family
Oh my goodness! She is so adorable! I thought I was going to have to get the box of tissues out! I am so happy she’s doing well! Absolutely wonderful! I like the names Sadie or Cassie for her.
Jess over at Roots and Refuge uses a bent bar type apparatus that stops her cows from kicking by pressing on a nerve. Perhaps you could look into one of those? So glad to see little one finally thriving! :)
She's so cute! How about Tillie or Betty? Hope the calf gets all her nourishment from mama and not have to be bottle fed. That would be hard work. Congratulations! Miah from Roots and Refuge got a device to keep the cow from kicking and it seems to work well. You should check it out. It's just a curved bar that goes over the rump and keeps the cow from raising her hind leg. It might make milking safer for you.
Well it’s Sunday ❤Funday 11-6-22 and our (Im in Nashvegas lol Nashville) Tennessee Titans play your Kansas City (Missouri) Chiefs today! Best of luck to both sides. Just thought of y’all today because I’ve noticed your Chiefs Fans. Love y’all! From the Griffin Family in White House, TN a suburb of Nashville ikr. That’s actually how I accidentally found you all one day I was looking up White House Tennessee for some reason n I’m glad I found White House on the Hill ❤
I am very glad you guys went back out and checked on the baby calf because like you said, it is very important that they get that colostrum in your system early!! Time is mamas are just skittish and don’t want to stand still for the cabin sometimes like this gas was just weak from the delivery it seemed like it was a long process for both of them and she was worn out I think so her legs couldn’t be found under her, so why are you guys going out and giving her the colostrum that she needed gave her that extra boost whether it was in a bottle or from mommy. Once she got that in her system then she had the energy to start eating for mommy and they will settle down to do the job that needed to be done!! She REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL CALF😊♥️♥️♥️♥️ I like the name is Angel and Sweetie Pie 💕♥️💕♥️💖 I’m so happy you guys were able to see this baby calf and I look forward to watching it’s coming days on the White House farm

Hey, I've only seen a few of your videos but I thought I'd just leave a couple tips (you may or may not already know) on this one. I've been working on dairy farms for the last 3 years and have seen and assisted with a ton of calvings. One thing we always try to do is use some of the iodine teat dip and cover the navel/umbilical cord on newborn calves- this is to help dry up and sanitize the umbilical cord as it is essentially a corridor for bacteria to enter the calf and cause a disease known as joint ill. It probably wouldn't be as much of a concern in a set up like yours with only a few cattle and clean bedding but it's still the best practice. I think Miracle is a great name for her, since she is a little miracle. It took so much effort and so many things coming together for her to even exist...I would call her Mira for short.
Looks like she was getting plenty to eat from mom all along. She never appeared gantt anyway. That's what my rancher hubby calls it when a calf is not eating and his/her belly is sunken in. The little calf having trouble may warrant a vet visit, some things we see with slow calves is head trauma from birthing or potential injury in the head and neck that can last for a few days after birth. In most cases we have a vet come out and give a steroid injection for the swelling or potential swelling in the brain, and a vitamin/metabolic starter injection to fortify the calf and stimulate it to continue to try and feed. Another thing to check for is incomplete palette where the roof of the mouth doesn't fully close off, causing latching and feeding problems. signs of this would be milk discharge from the nose, or head shaking and a lot of huffing or snorting from the calf. Its important when feeding a slow calf to never squeeze of force milk into them as they may aspirate the milk into the lungs. Best of luck I do hope she continues to make gains!

That is the name my son suggested!

Order a microphone instead it kept mooing did you not hear it the whole time of The calf trying to stand it can sing
Exactly what I was thinking. It doesn't hurt the mama cow, would allow the baby to nurse, and would keep whoever is milking her a little safer.
So happy the calf started nursing, was really worried for her❤
Me too!
Same 😊
Maisie + Dolly = Molly sounds so cute 🫶🏼
I Bad the same idea because of the same reason😊
Perfect 😍
What about butters? I think it’s really cute
I think the same
Or Daisy
For a calf, one problem could be the high solid content of Jersy cow milk for digestion.
Aww, she’s so cute! I hope you have a good time raising her!
Edit: name suggestion too, I think daisy or molly would be good!
I was thinking Molly
I was thinking daisy to or hope

Another thing is your completely right- it is crucial that a calf gets colostrum in the first few hours of life, ideally 4L in the first 6 hours. The ability for passive transfer of Ig (immunoglobulins/antibodies) from the colostrum to the calf decreases rapidly after the first 6hours of life. One thing I always like to have on hand is powdered colostrum in case the calf doesn't nurse or you can't get enough colostrum for a full bottle out of mom. It also might be handy to have a stomach tube around- we use it on calves that won't drink (and may otherwise die without intervention).
Anyways I just thought this might be useful information for you guys in the future. Congrats on your new calf!
