Ledros story in lol universe is a most read if you want to get an idea of how his life became after the ruination. It talks about how he tries to heal kalista and how he was able to keep his sanity
The TLDR version is, he’s been fighting his mind fracturing in the hopes of saving Kalista, he constantly looks for her and tries to protect her from other wraiths but she doesn’t remembers who he is and it is so painful to see him do everything he can and fail. She sees him, realizes he’s not someone who wronged her and then moves along and it pains him every time, not only that but Thresh likes to watch him suffer trying to save her from her curse.
@@TrollCatGamer Thresh stepped from the darkness. He glanced around, ensuring he was alone. Then he knelt and picked up the discarded silver pendant. The fool had been so close. He was on the brink of bringing her back… and now, after countless centuries of trying, he had abandoned his task, at the very moment of success. Thresh smiled, cruelly. He liked seeing hope wither and die, like blighted fruit upon the vine, as what could have been sweet turned to poison. It amused him. He opened his lantern, and tossed the pendant within. Then he stepped back into the darkness, and faded from view. After a time, the rattle of his chains faded, and he was gone.
Just finished the book. It was so damn good. The whole atmosphere it managed to create was so sad (in a good way). The overall lack of hope and events intensifying that lack of hope have been an amazing preparation for the inevitable Ruination. I knew it was going to happen yet I was so curious on what the course of events will be. Also the scenes where Viego was talking to the corpse of her wife while the others knew damn well she was dead were fcking haunting. I knew Viego was obsessed over Isolde but this book really showed the sick and delusional part of it. Also Kalista will never be the same character for me. Her heart and intentions were so pure and seeing her getting betrayed by almost everyone in the end was quite emotional. Then there is the final part where all the main characters that died on the isles become their current selves and their ruined bodies reflect their souls right before they died. GG Riot Games.
Great review! Convinced me to get the book - even though I have mixed feelings on how the ruination has been handled in the past. I'm sufficiently interested in delving this interpretation/version. Also, just something to add about Thresh and the events at the start: the answer is definitely that he was always a prick. The lore for his character in the game makes it clear that he has always had a penchant for cruelty. That his teachers assigned him a "thresher" position to not only put his naturally methodical nature to good use - but to keep him away from the other members of the order. To be fair! They recognize that he was gifted. He has an eye for detail and has always been throughout, etc. But that, combined with the inclination for sadism that his teachers could see even back then actually worked against him. It made him more frightening and less of a candidate for the job he wanted. I have no doubt this was exacerbated by his poverty, and that's unfair, certainly. But it wasn't the main/real reason. If he had been a good person, or at least a normal and not cruel one, I have no doubt he could have risen through the ranks.
Just finished this book. Read through the whole book in 2 days, it was such a fun read. Didn't knew you read fantasy novels. Stromlight, locke lamora and name of the winds are some of favorite novels too.
17:30 small correction the stone he finds is a Master's Keystone. It the key to areas only the Masters are meant to be, which includes not only the well of life but areas like the seekers vault, which is where waystones are kept. 26:13 99% sure it is Yorick bc his bio says he was born with the ability to see and talk to spirits, and this gifts makes the brothers of his order jealous of him because he can do their job so much easier by talking directly to the spirits. At the same time the monk seems to just be communing with Isolde without it being a face to face convo so maybe not.
29:50 nunyo is an experienced mage. He's able to produce a huge light to illuminate the banquet hall in the beginning of the book, and he's the one that used Mihkail's Chalice and empower it to slow the poison in Isolde. He's not as powerful as Viego but he has decades of practice, and the stone if very easy to use for someone who understands magic.
No, it's Yorick: "And who is this grim figure?" asked Viego, indicating the black-robed individual who accompanied the masters. "He has the look of a gravedigger." Viego had never been one to censor his thoughts, but Kalista had to admit the observation was apt. Upon closer inspection, she noticed that his staff of office was shaped like a shovel. He was short but powerfully built, and around his neck he wore a vial of clear liquid. As if feeling her gaze on it, the man tucked it beneath his robe. "One of the Brethren of the Dusk," the old woman said. "Few understand the liminal boundary between this life and the next better. Do not be put off by his macabre appearance. They are sweethearts, really. And distill the best spiced liqueur in the known world."
Thank you for covering this and bringing more attention to lore! So sad that characters like Kalista, Hecarim, and Yorick are completely forgotten by corporate Riot in favor of marketable characters like Gwen and Viego.
@@kinnngcruz884 Yes. I'm pretty sure they hired the writer who made a decision to make it from her POV. And when they looked at it, why would they be against it? But they don't actually care for her. You're saying the novel is from her POV, but at the same time they release VIEGO SKIN AND A FUCKING STATUE and NITHING for Kalista. They've forgotter about her a long time ago.
@@MariaKryvohub Viego is the ruined king, the ruination is mainly his fault so makes sense he gets more things. They didn't hire the writer, the writer is a principal writer at riot also I don't really care about skins or figurines I'd rather have novel and stories. Point is higher ups at the company wouldn't care about it same goes for any other higher up at any company but the writer cares about the stories they make for the champs and that's good enough for me.
@@kinnngcruz884 I didn't mean that he's some hired guy from the side. I meant that he is hired as a worker. Other than that, nothing you said breaks my points. Firtsly you acted like Kalista is the main characted and not forgotten because she has a book from her POV, now you're shifting the importance to Viego to justify why he gets the skin and statue and she's not. So is she forgotten or no, huh? Anyway, it would be good enought for me, but this novel describes already known story, just in more detail. It would be enough for me if they did something with current Kalista, continued her story or made her in any bit relevant. They will not, they don't care.
@@MariaKryvohub Depends on who you prefer as they. The writers at riot? Yes, The higher ups? No. What do you even consider as "caring" for said champ anyway? Skins and figurines? Like league is not the only basis anymore to measure if they "care" about a champion. Illaoi was in ruined king and in the launch roster in project L. Singed, Viktor and heimer is in arcane. You have to be realistic, you can't have every champs to be the main character of something, In every medium they make out of the runeterra universe there is bound to be favorites and it would be foolish to not capitalize on it.
I read the book and now I’m here! SPOILERS 1. Thresh wanted to be a Seeker. 2. The name the enemies gave Sanctity was Soulrender. 3. They made the poison seem like it was some kind of shadow magic like the Forbidden Shadow Techniques that Zed uses. 4. I believe they called the Sea Vastaya Crimsonscales but I could be wrong once I find out I’ll edit this.

@@lapislovesgaming8739 he's talking about skin for LoR. i think it's 100% good idea for LoR. but in LoL they have to make a new model for hecarim, that would be expensive to make.
