@IamGrandMagus you are comparing fastest human to all dogs. Keep it fair. Fastesr human with average dog will not keep up. I have 6 dogs and every one of my dogs can run 30mph and they top out there. My Malinois can reach 32mph. The average human will get smoked by every dog. The really tiny dogs can still smoke our tiny humans. Midget dog will outrun a midget human.

Thought that when I first saw a race.
I adopted one of these amazing dogs last year. Her racing name was XJT Rain On Me. She is so loving and sweet. I hope more people adopt these beautiful dogs as the tracks close down.
Grey hounds love running and racing I just wish they had a better community of people who raise the dogs that one family with the dog who won looked like they took great care,how he hugged the dog and looked at it with love and compassion that’s not something you see everyday,that’s amazing

It’s not normal for a dog to be raced. The dog can enjoy it and can be bred for running at high speeds, but no dog is born to race

No they aren’t actually. My aunt has had about 6 rescued greyhounds. That’s why some greyhound tracks have been closed because of the pile of dead dogs in the back. Animals should run if they want to. Not to make people money. Look on UA-cam for videos about how they are really treated. Anyone who says they are treated well have their heads up their butts.
They would have to have the best care they couldn't do this without it..

If a greyhound isn't 100% healthy, the track Vet pulls them from racing so abusing them is quite ridiculous. How many kennels have you been to? How much abuse and killed greyhounds have you seen yourself? I'm betting NONE because there is none. If you think they're abused and not treated right, you have your head up your butt. Time to get it out of your butt and learn the truth. Your aunt had 6 RETIRED greyhounds. They weren't rescued from anything. Greyhounds are not forced to race. You can't force a greyhound to chase that lure. They either will or they won't. The greyhounds that won't chase after the lure get an early retirement and go home with their owner or they go to an adoption group and get adopted. You really have no knowledge of greyhounds or their care.

I wish the racing industry was humane. Greyhounds are perfection, watching them run is poetry. I have a retired racer and he's the center of my world. These animals deserve everything but are treated incredibly inhumanely in the racing industry, it disgusts me.

They can run like this all day, they are genetically built to be the fastest and have the most stamina.
Sighthounds will run until they drop. The don't listen to their own bodies when in chase.

Yea imagine if a 100lb human tackled you running 45 mph. It would be the hardest hit ever, harder than any sized NFL pro could tackle you. That speed is next level. You should see a working line Great Dane run, they take aim at you it's terrifying not as fast but they are enormous and can still clock 35+ mph.
They were used by the conquistadors to patrol their newly conquered territories these things will hook into you with their teeth clocking at very high speeds imagine the damage from the impact alone minus the blood loss after they ravage you . When they stop winning they are adopted out, or, if they were very successful, bred and then adopted out. There are many organizations specifically to make sure they find homes. In the US, for example, they are all adopted. Find an organization and ask about the process of getting one -- they've all got 6-8 month waitlists because there are far more people who want ex-racers than there are dogs.

Dogs absolutely love running, especially Greyhounds. These days the dogs are treated very well and are looked after properly both the winning and losing dogs. I had family that used to have Greyhounds, they pretty much spend the first few years of their life running as much as they want and they make it very obvious when they're too old to continue. Their retirement consists of resting and spending their time by the side of their trainer/owner. The loyalty is mutual. I understand with Horse racing because they're actively harmed and and put down due to injuries caused by humans. But with dogs, punishment and pain to make them race better doesnt even work so treating dogs poorly doesnt make sense morally or practically. I'm sure their are bad trainers and owners but for the majority, people involved in dog racing love dogs and would hate to see them treated poorly.
I don't really get the push to ban. Dog looks happy enough. And the greyhound breed is literally built to run.
