As long as the bootlegs aren't particularly expensive or requiring a lot of maintenance to come close to the official product, they do seem like a somewhat viable method to either find cheaper bases for customizing or kitbashing, or if worst comes to worst a source for assorted joints and other parts that may come in handy later.
Pro tip: using clear Elmer’s glue or polymer clay between loose joints should make them more stable. You have to do multiple coats and blow dry to get any loose joints on real or fakes on point
I glue a bit of tissue when I glue any joints. It looks good enough for $15.00 to me. I have the KO Ryu and mine was fine. I paid $18.00 with free shipping.
When I used to still buy this kind of stuff I would always completely disassemble the figures, make the necessary modifications(lots of dremeling), put them back together properly and airbrush them with some dull coat or whatever finishes that were missing. Now the only k.o.s I spend money on are mp and os transformers. They're all either on par or better than official versions. On the rare occasion that they're not, it's usually just a pin that needs to be pushed further in or some excess mold that needs to be cut away. Sprue marks show up on official and fakes so that's no big deal and nothing that really fine grit polishing stage sand paper can't take care of in a few seconds.
I bought both of these. The Ryu was good, the Chun Li is a piece of shit. The shoulder joint snapped almost instantly and it was the worse joint that I haven't been able to fix.
I know this is an old comment, but that makes sense in this case cuz you cannot find these 'bootlegs' anywhere anymore, you think they would still want to produce them but if they're factory rejected ones, the run would end when the original run did which seems to be the case.
Heads up, a bootleg of the figuarts android 18 appeared recently on ebay and aliexpress for $24 to $33. After seeing some product shots....same with the krillin, better spent getting the model kit.
I recommend buying a matt finish spray from any hobby stores to apply on those bootleg figures

These really do have a place in my heart.
I'm glad they release these cheap under quality versions, instead of just scrapping them. They're great for extra parts. Thanks for the review!
I always appreciate these videos of yours that highlight bootlegs. They're really useful especially for customizing purposes. :)
These bootlegs are only 25% of the original price.. I think we have to accept their lower quality.. they are not that bad after all..
yes just fix some of the loose parts then your fine
That's fair, with a bit of work, anything can be good no matter the price.
Think you could do a glue mod tutorial?

You should make mod videos for bootlegs
Hey dstar01 you should checkout the bootleg sh figurts homemade-suit spiderman from ebay.
They were all obviously made in the same line-up, the one you get 'bootleg' are just defective picked from quality control..
ex factory worker ..

Unless you drop an sh Figuarts figure the joints hold up ok. Then again there are factory defective sh Figuarts figures.
