Was just reading a story about a wedding between a poet-thief and a princess. Many people were upset that the princess might deign to wed someone so beneath her in rank. The hopeful groom had much to prove, but while doing so could scarcely restrain himself from scalding jibes at his detractors. His crafty way of doing this was to goad them into redoubling their doubts before quickly disproving them and so making a sharper point of their foolishness. One of these stories relates one of the many times he spoke of his love for the princess and her many virtues and gifts, this time harking upon her beauty, as onlookers of both the doubtful and believers in his worthiness listened and watched. "In beauty, " he said to them, "I would compare her to a potato--" The crown gasped then, some simmering with anger, though others were more patient, and forthright he furnished his explanation of the shocking analogy-- "Food for the starving!" All were relieved and pleased by this, though a few of course seemed not to understand, but there will always be such a few.
