How to prevent a GeyserWise losing its settings

  • GeyserWise controllers tend to loose their settings when left unpowered for an extended period, like during long spells of loadshedding. One way to prevent this from happening is to add a 12V backup battery. When I could not find any useful information on the internet, I decided to make this video for people with the same problem.

Great advice, just added a battery is yours still running ok?
Especially with the longer load shedding times

Yes, still working fine. I since found out that there is a button-type battery in the Geyserwise display unit that needs to be changed when it looses time & settings, but keep forgetting to check. The battery is still useful to keep the display going.

@@SterremanWillie hi Wiilie, my display skerm verloor ook tyd met LoadShedding. Ek het al die battery 2 keer vervang, maar verloor nogsteeds tyd. Enige raad?

Hi Willie. Thanks for this very useful video. I've connected the battery as described but I've noticed that the power coming from the board to the battery is above 17V. I disconnected the battery to avoid damaging it. How do I safely reduce the voltage to a level that won't overcharge the battery? Thanks for your help.

I also measured 16V which worried me as well, but its been running since I made the video without any problems. The battery does not heat up either, so seems to be OK.

Hi Willie. Any idea of the solar panel combined with a lithium 7Ah 12v will work the same? Geyserwise techie said not to use lithium but i dont know why?

    • @SterremanWillie
      @SterremanWillie  11 місяців тому

I suspect it is not recommend because lithium technology use different voltages and currents to charge, compared to the Geyserwise charger which is designed for a lead-acid battery. It could result in the charging circuit of the Geyserwise to fail. Lead-acid batteries are far cheaper anyway and you don't need a big battery either - my 7Ah is an overkill already.

    Hi Willie,
Could you please help me know what causes the pump not to work, if I connect the battery directly to the pump it works but it's not sensing when to circulate when connected normally, the solar system was changed because of a burst pipe in the previous one. Am worried because the solar is overheating. Please help.

Its difficult to faultfind like this, it could be a number of reasons. I once had to change my Geyserwise when the output port for the 12V motor blew. The 220V port still worked. This I determined using a multimeter. I don't quite follow what happened, sounds like the motor did not work after the uniit was replaced?

Hope you solved it but just to check 1. Is the probe on the collector working fine? 2. Double check the terminal connection for the pump.
My geyser was worked on and the terminals were loose. Resulted in intermittent pump working and saw temps of 80 degrees. Since I retightened them, all works fine

HI Willie. Can you please assist me my tse geyserwise switches off automatically went the temp reaches the max but then fails to switch back on automatically. I have no timers set.

Sjoe! I'm not an expert on Geyserwise, and have not experienced this problem yet, sorry. I assume you tried to Google?

I have. Thanks though. I just bought it so perhaps will send it back to supplier.

Other major problem with Geyserwise is if it comes on after being powerless and its in the middle of a heating cycle, It does not re-initiate the heating cycle. Surely based on time its obvious, it should just restart the cycle.. Junior programmer I think!
