YAYY i’m so happy you made a tutorial for this song!! one reason you’re my fav on youtube is because you always make tutorials for the songs i wanna learn!
Good question! It’s a bit subjective but I’ll train and explain my thoughts. The way I look at it, 3 of the 4 chords are in the key of B major. The D#7#9 uses notes outside of the key. Typically, the 3rd chord (in a key; we’re talking number system) is minor but turning it into a dominant chord is very common in R&B/neo-soul so I don’t look at that D#7#9 as a key shift. The G#maj7 is where the temporary key change happens. The key of B major has all the same notes as the key of G# minor. If we look at the song as if it’s in the key of G# minor then we can treat the G# major7 like a borrowed chord from the parallel Major key. Borrowing chords from parallel Major keys is also common. All that to say, B major is the key that makes the most sense with the assumptions I’ve made about the song’s composition and by no means am I saying I couldn’t be wrong 😅. You could say the key is G# Major which would make the D#7#9 chord the 5 chord. Then the B and E chords would be borrowed from the parallel minor. 🤷🏾♂️
@@TizoGuitar thanks very much! Very confusing , it really breaks the mold with this chord structure but I love playing these chords! It’s also fun to play the chords all at once instead of picking them. Thanks so much for the break down
