    Considering Elden Ring has an abundance of content, I'd love a mirror of Sekiro Gauntlets in Elden Ring. The ability to continually rechallenge bosses deep in the end-game compelled me to keep replaying Sekiro; there was no wait to jump into the content I enjoyed most about the game.

      I think it's gonna be more than a quarter. Not enormous or as big/bigger than base, but I think they are gonna do something ambitious for the game they are most proud of. I think originally the dlcs on their own would have had to be pretty big for people to not be let down in elden ring. As long as dungeons serve a purpose they can be really cool, the death touched catacombs isn't even a good dungeon but it's one of my all time favorites just because it introduces you to the concept of deathroot and those who live in death. The ruins strewn precipice is another really good example, it starts in Liurnia and ends in Altus Plateau, it feels like an actual level instead of just a cave, plus the cave has really good atmosphere, you keep climbing in and out of the cliff face and half of the cave takes place in open air climbing across scaffolding and ruins. If they use dungeons to tell a small story or stick to a concrete theme then they can make them way better

      @@JordiDiezN I believe Miyazaki said in a past interview that for elden ring the development had 2 paid DLC's in mind, and before elden ring released the game was originally was supposed to launch with a season pass for the multiple dlc's but got scrapped. You could argue that the 2nd dlc was just the colloseums but I don't think they would have made us pay for that considering how small and simple to implement that is, Miyazaki knows when he says "elden ring dlc" the thing that comes to our mind isn't just more convenient pvp, so I think the 2 dlcs were merged. Also because of how long its been would make sense to me. So yeah I guess they never actually said they combined them, I'm just heavily assuming they did.

    I REALLY just want an "Aspect of the Crucible: Wings" attack already. We only get three out of the five Aspects we see the Crucible Knights use. The Aspects we get to use being the Horns, Tail, and Breath but the Crucible Knights also have a Wing-Dive type attack and a Talon type grab attack. Also a Seal that specifically boosts the Aspects even further (stacking with the armor) would be neat since without the armor and really high FTH the damage is really lack luster and with both it's only average at best. They're fun and visually amazing, but struggle in actual utility. Saying this as a guy who's favorite build is essentially a Crucible Knight cosplay, so I know.

    As far as explaining the story. There was a very early leak before Elden Ring was announced in which the leaker talked about FromSoftware working on a new open world game. He said there was someone famous behind the story and the game would have horseback riding amongst other things. The leak was pretty credible since a lot of things it predicted ended up coming true. One of the other things he predicted was that the open world game (Elden Ring) would be part of a new trilogy. If true its likely they're planning on saving a lot of the story for the next games.

      @@thebigenchilada678Dark Souls was originally a standalone game. Yet here we are with a trilogy. The sequels did little more than reiterate the main plot of the first. I believe there's a lot more inbuilt potential for follow-ups in the world of Elden Ring than Dark Souls, and Miyazaki has stated in an interview that certain parts of the story have been reserved for future games (could be a translation error and he's referring to DLC but can't be sure of that either). To me it seems unlikely FromSoft would go to such an esteemed writer to develop a backstory for a single title. I think it's very possible this mythos George RR Martin wrote could be intended for multiple titles. The story could develop in ways we can't predict, and there is solid evidence to suggest sequels.

    I always thought that the main theme of Elden Ring was choice and accountability, and the tragedy of having your personal freedom taken away.
    The whole Ranni questline is about not letting something else decide your fate, from the minutia of the quest to the very conclusion. Ranni creates a new order but she and the player take that order and leave the world, creating a greater distance so that the people would have the ability to make their own decisions and not have their lives ruled by it, while still allowing the new order to fix the broken world and create a semblance of structure. The greatest tragedy in the whole quest is when we find out Blaidd is unwillingly beholden to the Two Fingers and ends up going mad, prompting us to kill him to defend ourselves and sparing him the shame and indignity of slaying a loved one with his own, unwilling hands; killing him at this point is a mercy.
    It is further expanded upon by the idea of systems of power that the main players of the Lands Between try to impose upon the world and its people; gods and demigods trying to enforce THEIR rules on everybody, whether they like it or not.
    To further expand upon that, the main flaw of a few of the most important characters and mandatory bosses, Maliketh and Morgott, is blind, unthinking loyalty, and they are punished for that. At the same time, they themselves are victims of the rigid, uncaring systems and key figures they are so unflinchingly devoted to.

      You're definitely right that the tragedy of power literally or metaphorically enslaving people is one of the biggest themes, _(eg. Rykard pursues it out of desparation, the twin prodigies are literally cursed with theirs, rennala is driven mad by it and speculatively may have rebirthed herself)_ but Elden Ring is so big I don't think it can be _fully_ boiled down in any way in the way Dark Souls was. Unlike From's previous games, Elden Ring isn't one singular fable, it's a full world where various separate character's stories play out

I still think that the value of having control over one's own fate, the very ability to make your own choices, is at the heart of the story's themes. Apart from the already mentioned NPCs, the other ones also support this. Whether it's via unflinchingly pursuing your own dreams (Alexander), or not letting your pride and sense of self wither away(Millicent and Malenia, though the latter failed), personal choice and identity is always at the forefront. Rykard's story is basically a darker, more twisted interpretation of that same idea, which I think in part is meant to provide some nuance to it.

      I'd sooner say based on my interpretations of the overall lore, which isn't close enough to most mainstream ideas. That the theme is more to do with the constant fight for ultimate dominance over all the world by a single power out of many & how dogmatic & controlling religion/religious worship can be over the masses. I will say I am far more biased to naturally be thinking this way now more so than when I originally thought of this a little, due to the state of the world being heavily affected by these same issues.

Still a really fun school of magic but it would be way more fun if there were more variety. I think if they were to add more dragons with different elemental types that would be a good opportunity to add unique dragon communion spells, Imagine in the base game if we found an undead skeleton dragon in the deeproot deaths, and instead of beathing fire it opened its moth to scream and dozens of deathflame wraiths came out and started homing in on you, or in the outskirts of the shaded castle you could find a putrid dragon that just vomits a massive puddle of acid onto the floor like the gaping dragon from dark souls 1. 4. Two or more legacy dungeons with the best bosses in the game. I really hope that we get to fight Godwyn in his prime form.

  • @TheNeoLoneWolf
    @TheNeoLoneWolf Рік тому +8

    I wouldn't call myself a lore expert, but this is my interpretation of the overarching story of Elden Ring right now. I know its broad without a lot of details, but I think it is approaching the theme of the game. Long ago Marika became the vessel for the Greater will, but eventually was unable to bear the weight of her own actions. As a vessel for an outer god of order she was supposed to create a perfect order in the world, but couldn't because of her own mortal desires. She eventually tried to shatter herself/ The Elden Ring, but she knew that the Greater Will would not let her. I believe this is when Radagon became Marika. I also believe she had banished the tarnished before this point with the intent that they would fight each other until only one remained who would challenge the Greater Will, and inherit her power. I think the 3 mending rune endings are all about resolving contradiction's in the Order that Marika could not, but they would all maintain the the influence of the Greater Will. The first relates to the Omens. She couldn't allow Omens in her order because giving birth to mutants would contradict her divinity. The Dung Eater wants to curse everyone so that natural birth becomes the only form of birth (no more Erdtree birth) in the Lands Between. This would be a challenge to Marika's Order. The second ending relates to Godwin who died in spirit. I think Marika sees living in death as worse than death itself. He didn't "make something of himself", and his spirit is dead so he can't be reborn with the Erdtree. We know that Fia still wants to comfort Godwin in death, and that the Order/D will kill her given the chance so we can assume this is another contradiction to Marika's order. The 3rd ending relates to Radagon being Marika. We don't know exactly what Goldmask's conclusion was, but Corhyn call's it blasphemous. That is definitely a challenge to Marika's order. I suspect its simply knowing that a mortal can become a god. I believe if we approach the lore knowing that Marika tried to cover up aspects of history to maintain her order we may start finding some more answers, and I think these are good place's to start rooting out the contradictions in the lore. I would be skeptical of any text written from the perspective of the Golden Order. As for a theme of the game I think its legacy, or inheriting power. Every ending is about what you would do to the world, not for yourself like previous souls games. You can maintain the Order, change it, give it away, or burn it all down. I think Miyazaki wanted this game to be more political than his previous games, and that's why he worked with George R. R. Martin.

    Three things I'd like for the expansion to include:
    - A Boss rush/rematch system of some kind.
    There are so many bosses that I'd love to keep fighting, but don't feel like playing through the entire game for.
    - Unique area Covenants
    Give us a reason to go through certain areas of the game again. What if there were mini-dungeon style invasions? What if there was a covenant dedicated to protecting animals, and invaders hunt you for killing them? What if there were open field boss covenants where invaders fight you during boss fight? The potential is endless.
    - A personal desire: A Gloam Eyed Queen boss fight.
    From what I understand of the lore, the GEQ was basically a goddess of death- The Godskin Cult channeled their power from her alone; Power so grand it had to be sealed away by Maliketh.
    A boss that hits as hard as Maliketh, but with a Godskin aesthetic? Sign me up. We even get her weapon: Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only boss whose weapon we received before meeting them was Ludwig... and we all know the boss that came afterward.

    • @mkv2718
      @mkv2718 Рік тому

      they disliked them because they ignored them until they beat they game, which makes the early dungeons feel like a crappy, grinding, slog since the early ones are meant for characters at like level 30, not 60-80. when done at the points you are intended to engage with them, you never feel like you need to go grind for blood vials or levels as they fill the gaps between each of the main areas quite nicely. especially when you consoder that your progression with them saves over each ng+ cycle. when you know you’re not supposed to do them in your first game right before you beat gerhman, but do half of them throughout your first play through, and the other half in ng+, then they feel SOOOOO much better, and you can really have some fun with them.
      and when you do want to grind, that’s what the random dungeons were for, but people barely used them. they also had a lot more variety than the static dungeons, and they were also great for invasions for that reason. (RANT, FEEL FREE TO IGNORE: which is a whole other topic entirely, but BB multiplayer was meant for invasions, people trying to have “no healing honor duels” in BB were just playing it wrong. your character heals if you attack fast enough after taking dmg AND you could parry heal attempts, and yet i STILL see people who will disconnect if someone heals. play Bloodborne like Bloodborne and not like Dark Souls people 🙄 instead, all my attempts to invade chalice dungeons were always cock-blocked by people using one dungeon for fight clubs that had so many banned items and techniques that it scarcely even resembled bloodborne. leave the honor duels for back with the knights in shining armor.)

    Here are some of my own wishlist points:
    1. SOME form of system to refight Rememberance bosses without needing NG+ cycles. Given their name I'm surprised this wasn't even in the basegame, but since Sekiro I am confident this will be in the game.
    2. A new ending or "pseudo ending". Dark Souls 2 and 3 both had pseudo endings from the DLC (getting the fused crown and blood of the dark soul respectively) to have lore implications without _directly_ interfering with the clear conditions of the basegame, and Elden Ring has already set up Miquella potentially curing Godwyn and thus saving the world from deathblight as an easy example.
    3. Some QoL conveniences, like maybe an NPC who can finally break down Smithing Stones to lower rarities for example
    4. While I _expect_ the DLC to be hard, I will disagree with Ratatoskr that it *NEEDS* to be hard. (I mean, massively hard in relation to the rest of Elden Ring) Slave Knight Gael isn't the best boss in Fromsoft history because he's the hardest, he very arguably isn't. Lady Maria is beloved despite not even being very hard in the first place. Sister Friede is pretty fucking hard, but Phase 1/2 really aren't that bad, she is mostly a trial of endurance. I feel Fromsoft getting conscious about external expectations to make hard bosses was responsible for the unfun mechanics Malenia resorted to, (eg. hitstun cancel) and I would not be disappointed if Malenia remains Elden Ring's hardest boss. I just hope this DLC has _the most fun_ boss movesets in Elden Ring.

    This is what I think will be in the DLC, and Im pretty certain:
    - most of the cut content returns in some form as they didn't have time to flesh out and unbug the quests they made...the entire cut content was very interconnected and intricate, not all will show up in the dlc as some just do not function properly, but the covenants, merchant quest, st trina, return to some degree in a more completed form
    - there are 2 new overworld areas and 1 underground, accessed at various points in the game;
    - the middle of the map is one area (above and below), and another land entirely
    - 2 big legacy dungeons, but multiple mini ones (from and to shaded castle and volcano manor size)
    - the main game has a good handful of alterations and additions beyond the cut content, will be enjoyable to play new for anyone, this includes the snow areas
    - there are assets from sekiro being used in one of the new areas, it is expanding upon the asian part of the lore (bloody fingers, land of reeds, etc.)
    - it is very big, probably the biggest dlc ever made in terms of gameplay hours (as far as I know), but it isn't as big as elden ring itself
    - it is not as repetitive as the base game (catacombs, caves, repeat bosses, etc.), it is mainly new things and unique areas, with some enemies having derivatives
    - the multiplayer is being revamped, coop, pvp, and covenants
    - as people guessed it deals with miquella, but also the nature elements even more (blood, deathblight, frenzy, sleep, poison) and these are even more prominent, such as causing deathblight and frenzy on enemies
    - stealth is improved upon with the improvement of sleep and the increased lore around sleep
    A lot of stuff was just not finished, and this related to all the status effect types:
    Frenzy and the merchants quest
    Blood and the bloody fingers, part of covenant things and miquellas story
    Sleep with the St. Trina questline
    Deathblight was just yet to be expanded upon, but it also related to covenants (Fia and D)
    Poison is like a friend of rot, as seen in the talisman that boosts attack for when rot and poison are present, it was yet to be fleshed out, another example are the poison fang claw weapon meant for duelists, but all we get in the game are rotten duelists, this is also linked to the coliseums which were not added at the beginning
    Rot was the only one that got fleshed out.
    There are lore elements I am not totally sure about but I have some knowledge:
    many of the outer gods and "status effect dieties" are just the complete one, the one great.
    the three fingers existed before the golden order (The One Great) the formless mother/mother of truth has a title very similar to Shiva in hinduism which often is referred to as the complete one (the one infintie existence, even in buddhism this formlessness is seen as the true reality), and the rest all deal with death and decay of some sort. They are all just the infinite one, the one great, etc. manifesting after Marika took out the rune of death. They are not different Gods, just the same natural force of unity and oneness before the twoness and duality (themes in every spiritual path and in this game with all the double helixes). The DLC is about this unity which is inescapable, this is not overt in the dlc, still abstractly presented.
    As per the increased presence of deathblight, scythes will be better and more will be added to the game.
    I am pretty certain about all of the above. It is going to be $40 US, and is about 30 hours of gameplay if done quickly, about 60 for getting it all, and when adding in the multiplayer shenanigans and the greater build variety to come it is a very worthwhile dlc.
    Grains of salt, remember.
