@@davidgeorge3944So you think every one of those thousands of aftermarket controllers have turbo mode thats works exactly the same way? Also, lot of people could be confusing this with Twin Snakes (remake of MGS 1) where the auto-fire detection was definitely working really well
I HATED THAT TORTURE RACK SCENE AS A KID. I just DID NOT have the finger dexterity and stamina to pull it off ON MY OWN so I always had to put this part of the game “on hold” until I could get a couple friends over to ASSIST so we could AT LEAST “switch” between rounds (hell, I’m not even sure if I could do it NOW since I’ve since been in an accident that left me with permanent nerve damage in my fingers).
@@NoName_WasTaken I’m doing relatively fine. I can use my hands and fingers just fine but I just don’t have very good “grip strength” and I have ZERO feeling in the tips of a couple of my fingers.
@@NoName_WasTaken Yup. 👍 I’m not like “disabled” or anything. Just very MILDLY “crippled,” I guess (it DOES make doing certain things that require “fine motor control” and “tactile response” of the FINGERS like sewing or whatever VERY DIFFICULT, however). When I FIRST had it happen, I could NOT MOVE my middle finger and pointer finger on my left hand (it made playing certain video games IMPOSSIBLE because I couldn’t RELIABLY press the left shoulder buttons/triggers). Thankfully, AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS, my “motor control” RETURNED and I can USE those fingers now (even though I have ZERO FEELING in them).
Same. I've been wondering though. Mine said turbo. All I had to do was hold down the button. I wonder if they meant auto, as in switch on the auto switch, and you wouldn't have to press anything. Some controllers had those. Turbo and auto.
my finger remember quite well that part, it was torture. Moreover, each session became harder because you must smash the button as fast as you can to have the same effect that in the beginning of it.
I had some off-brand controller that had a “turbo” button you could use to turn any button into “rapid fire”. I was the only one in my group of friends that had the bandanna lol for original MGS not twin snakes…
They also unintentionally made a bug in MGS where if you use a gameshark and make the SOCOM infinite ammo, snake will just continually run endlessly in the direction you aim towards.
The matched timing, not the speed, is what triggered the game to think it was autoaim. Newer autoaim toss's some randomness in the mix to be less likely to be detected.
In MGS it worked quite well just rubbing your finger back and forth over the button ver quickly instead of tapping - however for Peace Walker not even that was fast enough. And I'm talking about the PS3 version of Peace Walker here, not even the PSP with its small buttons.
I had a programmable controller, I programmed random auto fire commands: xxxxxxxxxxxx, etc It fooled the game, and, success, I saved Meryl by changing the parameters of the situation, Kirk style
It'd be super funny if Ocelot detected the auto fire and was like,"HEY!" and just blew your brains out...then Liquid screams at and repremands Ocelot in the Game Over screen instead 😆 🤣
With emulator, people have discovered the threshold speed and can use autofire if programmed correctly. There's even multiple levels of turbo controllers these days. I remember doing this with a broke psx controller, where it took a couple of tries getting through as a kid.
I loved this game, hated this part with a passion. I used an old electric toothbrush, that just went back and forth, and glued on a pencil eraser on the end. Worked like a charm.
I don't know why it isn't standard practice to just add a randomizer to auto clickers and aimbots. Instead of using exact values, just have a smlal range of values and have the actual inputs be in a normal distribution in that range.
Been playing this game since it came out - probably my favorite game. Always wondered if he was bluffing or not - never had a controller with autofire, lol. After all the deception in that game, especially with the keys, thought it was just an attempt to make nobody try.
Idk if this was a glitch in my disc alone, during the Torture, on extreme mode, i managed to get into 57 rounds even though it supposed to go by 3 rounds. I could never get the bandana for that mode
When we were kids after the game released we used the red turbo pad for PS1 worked you could press a button a red light would come on and you could just hold the circle button and it boosted on up lol
odd on my ps1 version of the game that was purely a bluff and i used a turbo button without issues and got the good ending where i didn't submit to the torture
Yeah, Twin Snakes (which I played, with Achievements, very recently (shout out RetroAchievements!)) however didn’t work with any newer controllers; he “says” autofire won’t work But it doesn’t actually stop it
did you try this? the reason the modded controller is not working is because of the number of button pressed per milliseconds. if you max it out to 1ms, hideo's cheat prevention will start to work.
The PS Pro Pad by Interact came out around the time of the launch of the PS1. The controller has an autofire feature built in which works fine in the torture sequence in Metal Gear Solid
I had a modded controller that worked, but it wasn't fast enough for the final round of torture, so my friend and I had to use the regular controller anyway.
So I had played FF8 before I played MGS, and as anyone who plays FF8 knows, if you don't have a turbo controller, you learn a rapid button pressing skill. So when I applied that to the torture scene, I actually got tagged by this specific anti-cheat, so I actually had to slow myself down to get past this scene. XD
Just finished mgs1 on my steam deck. Tried it once normally. I didn’t wanna mess up my buttons so I assigned one of my back buttons to auto-fire. I was sort of expecting something to happen because of what ocelot said but it just worked without any problems. I cheated and got away with it 😔 My buttons are fine though
All any of us remember was not being able to save game when we wanted and constantly sliding down every rock or hill in the “open world” of mgsv. Devs got no business bad mouthing anything or anyone
cause the game detects the rapid pattern of the controller even if you use a modded controller just keep taping the buttion with auto fire on and you'll pass
There's still a way to use the turbo controller. You trick hom.by plugging it in and put of the ports and he gets confused and does question you about it but still lets you cheat.
I had to do it hardcore mode, because as a kid I had a PS2 and the game wouldn't save without a PS1 memory card. Ocelot literally says you have to start the game over from the beginning if you die here, and it scared me enough I always gave in to the torture so I wouldn't have to start over
Chasing him around the room was a pain but ultimately a good time. I remember the first time snake caught a cold for me. I was hiding in a box and I dang sneezed and ruined my stealth run lol

For first play through put it on normal give up get steath then next play through put it on easy to get bandana cuz the mode you have it on effects this as well
The emulated version on psn for psp and ps3 couldn't detect my controller. The funny part is i only got it to deal with that Strangelove bulllshit in peace walker.
Well, I never experienced that with the autofire controllers, I'm guessing it was an older controller or something, but it couldn't have been too much older than the game, i remember playing it on its release, lol
