@@haus16a you're both wrong. It's a reference to Amanda, Mike's sister in his Fallout 3 playthrough. It's almost never focused on, but Mike is the fucking Lone Wanderer. Zach is The Courier, though he hates that title because people treat him like a god and expect him to solve all their problems. There was a sort of "episode zero" that focused on Zach being shot by Benny and doing the intro Doc Mitchell checkup. For as much as this is a modded comedy series, Zach and Mike have actually stuck to the Fallout lore quite well, they've mainly used mods that are MOSTLY lore friendly, and those that aren't, like DUST, are their own series that they're explaining away as being alternate timeline or in the future. They haven't done the MASSIVE lore breaking mods for New Vegas, things like the Fallout Who Vegas Doctor Who mod, or Tale of Two Wastelands, though it does seem like TTW could be the explanation of how Mike is in the Mojave in the first place. But no, the twinkie line is a bit of idle dialogue from the Fallout 3 Mod "Ties that Bind" that makes the Lone Wanderer have a sister. It was a mod that Mike used in his Fallout 3 playthrough, it was referenced a WHILE ago, specifically the fact that he cannibalized her at the end.
Fun fact about Fallout 4 base building: A single small slanted roof can fit well over 30 sleeping bags because they don't technically occupy the same space. No one would be able to sleep in them, but it saves you a lot of space. And if the base comes with premade beds, sleeping bags can be placed underneath them for similar reasons.
20:00 I think this has to be the saddest part of the mod for me because that guy in the vault suit is supposed to be Butch DeLoria from Fallout 3. The story is he traveled west and ended up arriving around the time of the Dust events. Basically, he and Jess (the girl) just barely escaped and were trying to keep people from entering Zion and/or unleashing the Wendigo. Out of all the lore this mod brought together, that’s gotta be my favorite because it sort of redeems Butch’s entire character from a school bully to a cynical-yet-matured wanderer.

To help you guys brush up on useless knowledge of Mythology: The Phoenix is a bird that is associated with fire and rebirth within Greek Mythology. The bird sports colorful feathers that are said to be the purest of the colors. Tears from the Phoenix are said to cure any aliment and the feathers can bring back one from the brink of death but not death itself. Upon the death of the Phoenix, the bird bursts into flames and burns down to ashes. To where a new Phoenix chick emerges from the ashes and the life cycle starts again. And this Mythical Bird was "Culturally Appropriated" from the Greeks by the Romans. To which, many of the Roman Gods and Myths are DIRECTLY parallel to the Greek Myths. With some additions and culture changes. Zeus became Jupiter. Ares became Mars. Hades became...Pluto....that one planetoid body that is either a planet or not a planet. Hades really got the raw end of the deal when it came to being named after planets. Also, pretty much everything from Greek was "Culturally Appropriated" by the Romans. Government, Military, and, yes, Mythologies. So if anything. The Legion is more GREEK than Roman. Also, there was an Urban Legend that Twinkies were packed full of so many preservatives. That if the end of days did come upon humanity. There would only be two things that would survive. Cockroaches and Twinkies. Though that was in the old days. These days. The size of a Twinkie could barely sustain a normal size cockroach. Let lone a giant radroach.

It's tastes good and you can get a 2 liter for like 1 dollar (depending on where you go) and they were one of the only companies to keep selling the 24oz bottles for a 1 dollar, while all the other soda companies swapped to 20oz bottles. ICP pretty much stated that was the reason why they liked it, cheap, good taste, had a variety of flavors (Cola, Moon Mist, Redpop, Root Beer, just to name a few) and since they lived in Michigan, it was all over the place so it was super easy for them to get.

I tried out this mod, and god damn is it a pain in the ass. Unless you use the DLC pack weapons, you start in a house (or cave) that is always surrounded by enemies who spot you the instant you leave said house (or cave) and kill you in about four hits with literally anything they attack you with, while the game gives you: A gun with none-to-three bullets and a shitty no-range melee weapon and no armor. For example, one of the starts had me near south vegas with an exploding mailbox outside which *always* took off at least half my health every time I exited the building, and four tribals, two with guns, who instantly spotted me, along with a few ghouls. The only way out of this situation was to toggle god mode and just disable them through the console. After that I tried sneaking to south vegas, and a couple homeless men in rags spotted me (Reminder that I'm level one still so my sneak is still garbage). I thought that "Oh I can handle these fellas they just have melee weapons and while I only have a shotgun it does have three shells", but shooting one square in the chest did about 15% of his god damn health, while in the head I was lucky to get just over half of his health. So after this encounter I was out of ammo and down to a kitchen knife, to which two more homeless men spotted me and killed me in two hits with a tire iron while my knife did about 5% of his health per hit. Okay blog over.
Its fun if you like extreme challenge like that. I personally enjoyed it but its certainly not for everyone. I remember running away a whole hell of a lot
That's cause its not a Fallout game but a survival game set up in New Vegas. I kinda wish it did not call itself Fallout: Dust but instead called it "Dust mod" for New Vegas. The name gives the impression that it will play out like a Fallout game. Unfortunately I tried out this mod after YT kept bombarding me with videos praising this mod and got utterly dissapointed by the lack of any Fallout gameplay.
Ohhh yeah. DUST is a very rough horror survival game from once was an RPG. Very hard, and a lot of people play it permadeath (the sadists.) Not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy DayZ, and seeing a sad, dark future of the Mojave where everything goes wrong, it's full of series and well written lore.
Ultimately you gotta keep whacking your head against the brick wall till it breaks. I've done it, it worked for me. Get Ratslayer ASAP and it becomes doable, not quite impossible.
Fun Dust Lore Fact: And it came to pass that there arose a mist of darkness; yea, even an exceedingly great mist of darkness, insomuch that they who had commenced in the path did lose their way, that they wandered off and were lost. And it came to pass that I beheld others pressing forward, and they came forth and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; and they did press forward through the mist of darkness, clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did come forth and partake of the fruit of the tree. The Wendigo came from where they interred his body, a giant, immortal and inhumanly strong spore beast.
just to clarify mike thinking about if there were any twinkies left isn't just a reference to Zombie land. but a reference from the Mod Ties that bind for fallout 3 and TTW. which mike had used in FO3 playthrough in where the Lone Wanderer has an Older sister who loves twinkies, that she'll say "I wonder if there are any Twinkies Left" as a random dialogue. also the TTW version of the mod is a bit unstable as it can soft lock the mainquest vanilla and dlc due to her added dialogues. dont know if they fixed it now though.
I don't know if you guys were just doing bit or genuinely missed the reference, but Butcher Pete is the name of one of the songs played on the radio in Fallout 3 and 4 which is about a character of the aforementioned name.
Spore carriers were in Zion before, but they were relegated to caves and remote locations. When the NCR experimented with the spores it became much more aggressive and overtook Zion which allowed the spore carriers to infect more victims. the spore carriers we see are likely infected tribals who died and got taken over by the parasitic fungus. Joshua Graham got infected and Daniel wanted to burn his body so the spores wouldn't take him, but the tribals refused. So when Joshua died, the spores took over, and as before with Caesar he came back, now as the abomination known simply as wendigo.

I think in Fallout canon the Legion's capital is in Flagstaff, AZ.
It is, but the Legion also control Phoenix
@@metetural9140 thanks, Craig. Praise Craig.
4:50 That was also the same naming convention for Tulius of Prescott when you were doing the NCR spy mission mod with Esther
You two are the best WORST ASMR team. Like I get sucked into this, laugh at yalls antics, watch the lows, get drowsy , close eyes, WAKE UP TO YELLING EXPLOSIONS AND BOISTEROUS LAUGHTER. Best asmr channel ever.
Hades getting a raw deal is kinda a regular thing for him. Only good deal he ever got was with Persephone
@@AmericanBrit9834 Yeah. Well, he needs to find a new Agent. Maybe a new PR team. Hades isn't really a bad guy. Just misunderstood.
I thought the Phoenix was from Egyptian mythology
@@kylevonhahmann6444 Nope. Greek. And do keep in mind. Much of Egyptian History and even their Mythology was also shaped by the Greeks. As Greece had a strong foothold in the region for centuries. Until they were kicked out with the help of the Romans.
@@Qardo my guess is they meant the bnw might have been the source of Phoenix described by the Heliopolitans, and by Egypt they meant, like, Old Kingdom Egypt (just a guess)
The Zion bit has been the most interesting part of this whole Dust playthough. It was kinda thematic & suspenseful, in a low-budget, indie horror game kinda way.
Fun Fact: Yes, Deathclaws can open doors in New Vegas vanilla.
Learned that the hard way.
It's refreshing to see Zack get his ass handed to him by things he can't just stimpak through or things he actually has to run from or do a little more thinking, just that the strategic tactics never come. Guess that's the "survival" part kicking in. The rest of this mod has just been repeated senseless killing though.
Zach finally admires my favorite energy weapon today is a win for me
Laser Thompson goes pew pew , and it's great
Laser Thompson is fun! I actually like some of the laser weapons (just not in the series lol)
@@Zach_Hazard I feel you Zack, most of them are....tasteless, but laser Thompson, that was the way to go, wish bethesda learn a thing or two about cautivating designs
I wonder who wrote that note for Zach to go to the strip, maybe it was legion Mike's new partner?
it was the forecaster - he's grown up, insane & barricaded in the ultra lux - if Zank would have searched the suitcase, he would have found the other note - not a real issue tho, there's no way these guys are going to last more than a few minutes on the strip, much less fight their way to the top of the lux

i love the way you guys bounce narrative off one another... it's so refreshing.
Speaking of Fallout 4, I hope you guys start up that series again.
Would highly recommend Sim Settlements 2. Automates everything settlement related and has a cool questline that's super well made.
Yeah watched Al's playthrough & it was super well done. Played the 1st one, & was a complete must have for all playthroughs if you hate having to micromanage & spend time building settlements. Writing is actually good as is the acting.
2:12 Whoop whoop... Also yes as a Juggalo can confirm, Juggalos love Faygo.
Whoop whoop mcl
plus a dime back for the bottle return makes um cheaper lol
rock & rye :@)
Man we take the same route to Nellis AND you quoted Monty Python, you truly are a man of culture
5:35 Loved that Zombieland reference!
It's not zombieland, it's Fallout 3: The Ties That Bind, notice how he says "Just something my- someone I knew used to say that". It's a reference to Amanda. Mike's in-universe sister who died in The Capital Wasteland
@@HylianKnight02 He's making a reference to someone else who likely made a reference creating reference-ception. Fair enough.
"God willing, you will not leave this valley."
...So in this universe Aurelius didn't get blown up by a chair bomb?
That was in the no no bad play through.
I'm kinda disappointed Mike didn't react to the fact that they killed Butch when they got to the Northern Passage.
Have they done fallout 3?
@@changvasejarik62
Mike had a solo run back in the days before Zach. in their 'canon', Mike is the Lone Wanderer
@@Sambath-oc8ss they should go back to that.
@@changvasejarik62 Probably not going to happen since they dont replay entire games. i think.
Very hard, and a lot of people play it permadeath (the sadists.)
Not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy DayZ, and seeing a sad, dark future of the Mojave where everything goes wrong, it's full of series and well written lore.
Ultimately you gotta keep whacking your head against the brick wall till it breaks. I've done it, it worked for me. Get Ratslayer ASAP and it becomes doable, not quite impossible.
I played it and it just made me want to play STALKER again instead
Everytime these lads post, the boys are back in town plays in my head.
Hearing Zach spout facts about the ICP is the highlight of my day
Oof, that's what the Colorado River looks like now out west! We are one bad harvest away from mad max!
Better stock up on leather and gasoline
So Zach was either a juggalo in his youth. Or was good friends with one. Mike clearly was not.
I have learned so much more watching this UA-cam channel then my years going to high school.
Fun Dust Lore Fact:
And it came to pass that there arose a mist of darkness; yea, even an exceedingly great mist of darkness, insomuch that they who had commenced in the path did lose their way, that they wandered off and were lost.
And it came to pass that I beheld others pressing forward, and they came forth and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; and they did press forward through the mist of darkness, clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did come forth and partake of the fruit of the tree.

That was Veronica's vanilla hairstyle... You guys killed Veronica... though I'm not sure if you can capture anybody, still I imagine the moment of reaching you without immidiately attacking was her hesitating, thinking you should be dead.
Cass is dead too!
“Games: Fallout (1997).”
that’s how hard DUST is when UA-cam thinks its classic Fallout
Love that Mike keeps just making sure that his time in the capital Wasteland is 100% Canon to this playthrough as his backstory
Cool to see you guys using my Cottonwood Cove fix, many thanks!
you can get out through Zion you just have to avoid the wendigo, find a flammer it's scared of fire
“The Walls Speak True. The Tall One. The Branch Fingers. He Hunts. He Finds. He Kills. The Walls Speak True. The Walls Speak True. The Walls Speak True.”
Mike and Zach just two juggalo homies hanging about in the post-post-apocalypse
"You're a maniac, you are insane. "

THAT'S YOU!
God I am loving this series so much. Especially tin-can-Mike.
But starting my daily petition to get these boys to try out Disco Elysium, I will legit pay you boys for it. I will sell my blood. I will sell other peoples’ blood! They say you can’t but I know how!
But yes I think Disco Elysium would be something Zack and Mike would create a hell of a series from.
Indeed but the question is would mike be Kim or the necktie?
Also stay away from my blood, ITS MINE! I PROCESSED IT THROUGH BIOCHEMISTRY, ITS MINE!!!
Sorry watched sfdebris’ review of the thing and saw an opportunity to claim my blood like a madman.
I like how the wendigo depiction ties into that weird cave painting with the tall figure
Speaking of human skin masks and Mike's appreciation for fashionable leather headgear, the last time I played dust I forgot to turn off the zank and mike companion mod. So when I finally made it to Novac guess who I found surrounded by a pile of cannibal corpses and wearing a human skin mask? Mike.
As a juggalo zac is right we love faygo but we also love kicking it with friends

You know this is a great opportunity for legion mike to team up with this version of Zach to do some funny shit.
So, this is a spoiler but fun fact about the Wendigo in DUST
It's Joshua Graham.
Wait, is it really or are you yanking our chains?
@@zacharybartolo5111 No, he's telling the truth. Spoilers below:
You can find Daniel's journal. Joshua got infected by the spores, and after he died, the tribals refused to burn his body as Daniel wanted done. The Wendigo came from where they interred his body, a giant, immortal and inhumanly strong spore beast.
what if you used mikes body to make another time machine

For a post-post apocalypse and all its added violence this world is rather dull.
Zach's anger filled gun rants are music to a German gun repairman. He hits the nail on the head.
Alas, Zach and Mike found the way to Utah barred, and they would soon succumb to the madness of their own entropy...
just to clarify mike thinking about if there were any twinkies left isn't just a reference to Zombie land. but a reference from the Mod Ties that bind for fallout 3 and TTW. which mike had used in FO3 playthrough in where the Lone Wanderer has an Older sister who loves twinkies, that she'll say
"I wonder if there are any Twinkies Left" as a random dialogue.
also the TTW version of the mod is a bit unstable as it can soft lock the mainquest vanilla and dlc due to her added dialogues. dont know if they fixed it now though.
I got interested and looked up the lore- Apparently the wendigo is actually the mutated corpse of Joshua Graham!
I don't know if you guys were just doing bit or genuinely missed the reference, but Butcher Pete is the name of one of the songs played on the radio in Fallout 3 and 4 which is about a character of the aforementioned name.
as a juggalo I can confirm we love Faygo. We also love shaking it up and spraying it at people. Whoop Whoop!
Pro tip here for you guys is that a flamethrower type weapon will help you guys fight the abominations
Been a while since I had Faygo. Haven’t thought of that in years.
I thought that was a stretched out deathclaw for a minute but upon further inspection it's an elongated spore carrier.
it would have been really thematic given how demonic the deathclaw is but whatever.
3:57 *Mike calling a riverbed "the bay"*
Me: friggin' landlubbers *facepalm*
Makes you wonder if Aurelius went crazy because of the events of the second apocalypse, or because he was sitting on that seat with a bomb strapped to it for 20 years until the events happened.
5:02 Maybe pheonix is a reference that Legion arose from the ashes of the Old World, Roman Empire Reborn.
5:35
Cannot believe that Mike is CONFIRMED as the lone wanderer in the mikeburnfire cinematic universe. what a bomb drop bros /s
Quick Edit: also i guess as like some actual advice, try using the flare gun on the wendigo. It immediately sends him running and lets you get past him.
Dang it, now I need to watch that series!
I believe this isn't even the first time he's mentioned it I remember him mentioning it before but seeing as this comment and this video are pretty old now it could have been from another video after it. I wonder if they'll ever explore that!
A new dust video today is great
19:44 nice Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference there Zach
Would love to see Zach playing the DAH2 demo. His reaction to the Hippies and the Army would be something to see.
“They’re no crafting supplies here” they say not even going in
Little did Zach know, that the woman in power armor at 188, was in fact, Veronica.
