Probably because as teenagers we want to be recognized with more respect, something that can be easily exploited. Being called mature makes us seem more better than our peers, makes us feel more wise and appreciation to people who says that to us.
Praise, recognition, attention, sprinkled with some positive actions will make people want to trust that person. However, manipulative people know this and when their victim is close enough, the nice facade will drop.
How do you know if the an online person is good or evil? Sometimes there’s redflags, sometime’s you’ll never really know. Do they have real videos, photos about them? Do their voices match? Analyze their desires, hobbies, choice of words.
I was lucky that I knew a few of my online friends in real life. They introduced me to more people, some a few years older, some way younger. But overall there were incidents of grooming, manipulation and just bad stuff from a few users. We kicked them out.
I hate how these people take time to exploit and manipulate little kids, these people are monsters, to me they don’t deserve to have any human rights.

If the groomer has done a good enough job in sinking in their claws, they don't even need to do that. Just expressing mild dissatisfaction or purposely putting some distance between themselves and their victim will often make the victim crawl back and submit just to regain the praise and gratification from the groomer.

There was one time I was falsely accused of "grooming" by a "friend".
I felt pretty betrayed because they would always bothered to message me almost every day and join me on every game I played and I never asked for them to join me and they were always the first to say hi. I never asked any personal questions or asked them to take pictures or other things that involve giving away their identity.
I would always say hi too and wouldn't mind much if they joined me because I at least consider myself as a genuinely friendly person (or at least I would like to think I seem friendly to people). One day they randomly out of nowhere while I was minding my own business messaged me again and kept going on and on about how I ruined their life and how I am a pedo and no one needs me and I should die. I asked them what was wrong and then they randomly hit me with the "stfu you pedo, i know who you really are, you were grooming me" without any context. They were saying how much I was being "too" nice and how I was "emotionally manipulating" them.
It really hurts me since it basically felt like they used my own kindness against me. They really messed me up. It hurts more knowing that it really felt like we genuinely had some great conversations before with many inside jokes and now not only they accused me of "grooming" them, when i'm also underage too, but also took the time to "warn" others about me to try to get me in trouble too. That was the ultimate betrayal for me. They lied in front of my other friends we had together, they accused me, and they used every nice thing I said to cheer them up when they themselves were having a bad day against me. It sucks.
I thought they were my friend, I guess not. Ever since then, I tried so hard not too seem "too" nice.
You're probably wondering why i'm whining about this here, too be honest I guess I just wanted to get this out to cope with this, hopefully this might make me feel better. Maybe someone out there feels the same way.
If there is someone out there that's also going through the same thing, I hope this makes you not feel so alone anymore. It doesn't feel so great being accused of something you didn't do, especially with something like this which would give anyone a panic attack if this randomly happened to them someday. If I could help possibly make someone day a little bit better, that really makes me feel better about my self-esteem right now.

I only have one friend I kept from junior high school, Everytime you graduate from kindergarten, elementary, junior highschool,highschool. This sort of 'grooming' has been going on for years. In the UK, there was a Cambridge academic who got jailed for over 30 years for this. There's even a term for this. It's called 'hurtcore'.

Bro this happened to me when I was 12. But it was on Kik and he was my friend. I'm a guy too and I ended up sending him more than just feet pics.. I try my hardest to forget about it but I can't. I'm 18 now, and he still talks to me from time to time. And I reply mostly because I feel bad for him (all his friends abandoned him apart from a selective few), but even so I feel fucking uncomfortable. I just pretend it never happened, but pretending can only do as much. This guy put through a cycle of self doubt that at one point I thought I was bi, only to realize I never liked guys in the first place and this fucker just manipulated me. I really don't want to see him again, but at the same time I feel bad. Some days I just want to flat out tell him to fuck off but other days I just feel like he just needs some help. this hits pretty close to home for me. as someone who’s when through this kind of stuff at the age of 12-13, a little bit before I got diagnosed with autism.
i remember feeling trapped, obligated to do things and I remember my ex boyfriend even joking about me getting with his adult friend. it made me feel uncomfortable, he was not only an ass to me but to everyone else.
I’m out of that relationship now, but time does not always heal all wounds. they’re there, just a little less sharper. to anyone who’s been in this sort of situation or are currently in it, it’s not your fault. you are worthy of love and self-acceptance.

I have a fairly high pitched voice, plus im female, and asian.
I got discord when I was 11, and I would always say im 13 because I knew about the terms of service.
I got err, got some creeps on my back in the span of a year.
3 males, one was 16 and would flirt with me, and dumb 11 year old me took it as platonic, but they were genuinely trying to hook up with me.
Thank god my parents checked my discord and told me not to talk to strangers.
But since i was curious, i did it again and got another one, 20 this time. Same flirting type thing. Friends told me not to hangout with him and a year later told me they were a groomer.
Last one, keep in mind i went to a catholic school at the time, was looking for someone to help him with his loli roleplay. I didnt know this until after a few months into our friendship, creeped me out.
Now, any kindness i receive from anyone other than 5 people, i get creeped out.
And i dont tell anyone because i feel as though I’m overreacting.
Usually i pose as a male in servers and never talk when in vc unless with those 5 friends. 1 of those friends invalidate me for this, but i cant tell anyone else this because i’ll probably get kicked out of the friend group.

because its grooming. the groomer makes the victim feel safe at first and is always asks for things in a really indirect manner, where they essentially say "you dont have to do this BUT something will happen if you dont". i.e the groomer in this vid starts with "well my friends will be disappointed" to "i will show everyone what youre doing". manipulation isnt always easy to spot at first and the only way to really spot it is to know what to look for. its not so much the kid being dumb but more just insecure and uninformed on what to do.

they probably are telling their kids that but their kids are curious and they are idiots for not putting parental controls and thinking they can just roam around the internet because they told their kids "don't talk to strangers!" even though they won't always listen and plus elsagate exists just put parental controls if your gonna let your kids have a device and your not going to be around all oft he time so thats why you gave them a device
(most parents give their children devices because they aren't going to be around all of the time. well, while your around just put parental controls onto their device and make it to block a ton of websites like social media platforms and maybe only allow it to have games like bubble shooters and kid friendly games that are educational also block social media platforms to be downloaded on the appstore and make it so at their bed time it will lock their device)
