Honestly a lot of this gameplay highly reflects Wo Long where being more aggressive builds up a bar that can be cashed out with a heavy attack, and dodging perfectly also adds to that meter and getting hit detracts from that meter. Also turning into some demon with a completely different moveset is something that Koei Techmo uses as well.
I beat both Sekiro and Bloodborne (not to brag, but the experience of playing them to completion is a factor here). This game is VERYYYY approachable. It's a challenge, for sure. Journey to the west is one of the great 4 literature of China. Romance of the three kingdoms a lot of gamers know: ie dynasty warriors, rotk. The other 2 : Water Margin there was a japanese game in the 1990s that was based on it and the last is dream of Red Chamber. Would love to have games made base on the last 2 as well.
Dream of Red Chamber is a love novel (although there are a lot of social and political critiques behind its appearance). So you can probably only make a galgame based on it 😂

I remember when the devs released a spec requirement sheet and to max this game out on ultra settings they wanted 32gb of RAM and at least a 4080. I was pretty impressed with how much performance they wanted for this game and thought that it might actually be a true next gen title. Not really into the souls genre but I might give this a try since my pc can handle it.
15 hours is not short for an action-adventure game. I don't know why people feel the need for every game to seemingly last 85 hours with 200 hours of side missions. If a game is 8 hours long, but an absolute joy to play, then I don't see anything wrong with that. I would rather play a slightly shorter game that is more focused, than a 25+ hour game that just keeps you busy until the next set piece.
Idk man, I'm not trying to pay full retail price for a game I can beat in like 2-3 days. It certainly doesn't need to be 100+ hours, but I'd appreciate something that would be like 30-40 hours. Personally, I want my money's worth, so if it is super short, I'll be waiting on a discount. But you know people should do what they want, nothing wrong with paying that much for a short run time if you think it's worth it.
@@Mare_Man Yes. 15 hours is just main story, not including any side missions the game may have or just goofing around. That also doesn't account for multiplayer if the game has it.
15 hours is actually the perfect length for me. As a father who works 60 hours a week and might get 2 hours a week to play games 15 hours is great. I can actually finish it in a couple months.
Journey To The West is HUGE in Asia. Historical impact? Ummmmmm not so sure anymore, since there's an iteration of this story. Every. Year. There's no medium Wukong hasn't been on, no parody yet done. This's just the latest version, and like always, we gonna eat it all up =))) Wukong is famously known for his 72 miracles/spells. I do hope we actually get all 72 of them in this game. And beside his Staff, there's a few legendary weapons he got his hands on in the novel, I hope we get them, too.

However "Souls-like" this game turns out to be, I appreciate that it's one of the few in the genre I've seen where every boss fight doesn't seem, visually, like some kind of absurd, bullying mis-match. It doesn't look like "Oh, no, I'm a poor, slow human in mis-matched armor who's going to get killed twenty times while this perversely fast giant monstrosity laughs at me"'; it looks like, "Yeah, you're big. So what. I'm the Monkey King. Bring it."

The things that you liken to the souls-like genre are things that souls games didn't invent. "Souls" are just experience points, and "Estus Flasks" are just health potions. Those things have been around for much longer in gaming than the Souls series has. I don't understand the needless comparison.
Hey Falcon, about the Xbox port of the game, there was actually a playable demo back on August 2023 during the Hangzhou offline playtest, CC who visited there said there were PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X version available back then. (Speculation) People are speculating that the reason it is not on Xbox day one is the Series S not having enough RAM for it as it requires minimum 16GB of RAM for PC and the Series S only has like 10GB of RAM.
I know the game probably won’t have them but would be really really cool and a welcome surprised if wukong can do finishers on the bosses or maybe even just regular enemies, just so we don’t get that same animation of when you defeat a boss they just stumble to the ground, die, and then turn to fireflies and disappear

@@EnglishInfidel Gonna pre-order Space Marine 2 next.
But not at all like the punishing mechanics of the souls series. It's basically a tougher version of God of War. I highly recommend this game. It's got just the right amount of challenge. I'm very excited to see the games coming out of China. I'm so grateful and happy that they took so long to polish and perfect this game for my enjoyment!
I pre ordered this game the other night. I can't wait to stream this til sparking zero drops!🎉
Genuine question, why pre-order? Whats the point?
@themchannel853 I pre ordered it because I plan to stream it day 1, and just in case it releases early. I don't buy games unless I know I want them, that's why this and sparking zero are my only pre orders in years
@@themchannel853
1. Mainly its just good for management. You can buy it and not have to think about it until it releasees. Don’t have to worry about making sure you still have that $70 you need. If I know Im going to play the game no matter what then its nice to just have it taken care of.
2. Pre install so it’ll be available right when you want it to be
3. If you use Steam then theres no risk since you can refund if its broken or if you just decide you hate it
@@DTEKAMI why though? Have you not seen the state of most of the AAA games which released in the last 3 years? Bugs, crashes, missing textures, fps drops and what not. Take my word and please cancel your pre-order. You can spend those 70 dollars elsewhere.
@@Rising._.ThunderI pre ordered the deluxe as well. Well there is already tons of gameplay and info out so if you can’t make your mind up now I don’t know what to tell you. It also automatically downloads the second it releases so you can play faster. Also some people may not have that money to spend when the time comes for it cuz they have to put it elsewhere or save it.

The visual spectacle alone make it worth a try, that being said if this turn out good from a gameplay stand point it will be the first Chinese title i played that that the combat is not just serviceable at best, granted none looked as polished as this one, fingers crossed.
Try nine souls if you want a nice indie Chinese game
This might sound silly but I sometimes judge visuals based on how the snow looks and feels and this stood out to me right away when i saw it. I am so incredibly hyped for this. Thanks for this vid.

Sekiro is the only souls-like thus far that's worth playing. Fromsoft is largely overrated. Souls-like games are _hugely_ overrated. I'm w/ you on this game (Black Myth) though. Hopefully it's good.
Just started playing this game, enjoying it very much so far in the first few hours!
I started a new trend of going into games pretty blind. Meaning as far as information that I wouldn’t have pre-Internet days… and it’s been rewarding and refreshing.
Keep up the GREAT work Falcon and Jake @ GameRanx

I have had this pre ordered since the first second I was able to. Can't wait.
The only game in this year I'm excited. Can't wait to play it.
So you can probably only make a galgame based on it 😂
Excellent video ahead of the game! Hit on stellar points!

No no, this should be a 40-hours game at least
Shadow of the erdtree burned me out of open world. That DLC was like 50% empty and just boring running around with no real rewards.
$70 for a 15 hours game would be terrible
@@dharmdevilDefine "rewards". Fromsoft's Souls games has always been an environmental storytelling games, there's always a story to get from those "empty spaces". If you play video games just for ooga booga the enemies and loots, then that's on you buddy.

Which is about 43 decades.
Still a long time that's a lot of decades

First thing I thought. Many, many, many decades.
To be fair, he did say 'many' a few times.
As a dad this I don’t have time anymore for every game being open world lol
Idk man, I'm not trying to pay full retail price for a game I can beat in like 2-3 days. It certainly doesn't need to be 100+ hours, but I'd appreciate something that would be like 30-40 hours. Personally, I want my money's worth, so if it is super short, I'll be waiting on a discount. But you know people should do what they want, nothing wrong with paying that much for a short run time if you think it's worth it.
15 hours for good boss runs and doing minimal side content, I'd wager.
@@Mare_Man Yes. 15 hours is just main story, not including any side missions the game may have or just goofing around. That also doesn't account for multiplayer if the game has it.

Yeap thats where he keeps his staff in the original story
Yeap the staff is called 金箍棒(golden cudgel).
It can be small at will, even if it is placed in the ear does not affect the movement

For everybody wondering, black myth wukong will release at a later date on Xbox according to their website
Blame the series S for that
They say they're trying to figure out how to make it work in Series S, Microsoft should just drop the stupid requirement that all games must perform exactly as in Series X which is just hurting the buyers of Series X
No, no one cares.
@blankko84 how do you know that? do you have a credible source for that statement?
@@TenaciousDrip1 dude is common knowledge, just Google why Larian had to get a special permission from MS to release Baldur's Gate 3 on series S without multiplayer

The movement animations of everything look so good it almost feels like they went and found some giant mythological creature out in some misty Chinese forest in the real world and convinced it to come in to do mocap. It looks incredible, plays well, and runs well from all reports. The team used to be only 9 people.
