@@robcoopz2444 I think this chain itself proves the whole furry bait characters theory to be true. No offense esc, but c'mon man a game shouldn't be deemed as "good" just because they added some furry bait. Fortnite and MW2 (cod) already do that. Don't fall for it. But no, really, you're right. That original mood video is so ironic. A game made with harsh criticisms of hypercapitalist consumerism, in the end, was watered down and filterered by said capitalist forces in order to become a more marketable product. I am no communist by any stretch, but didn't Marx himself say that there would be a day when the anti-capitalism itself would just become yet another product to be sold by capitalists?
Man, what a mess. Just watching the gameplay, it really does encapsulate the "technically good but why would you play?" feeling. One of the few games where you can really say "the problem was the fundamentals". This game fell under my radar completely, and I can see why now. Thanks for covering it!
Oh wow, I was just thinking about this game and its cancellation and you post this video. What a timing. I have to say, I wasn't really surprised when the game was cancelled since it looked really unappealing and I could not see it finding an audience. I was shocked however when I learnt that it's Sega's most expensive game ever. Because it really doesn't show in the final result. Shame we will probably never have Alien Isolation 2. I hope the devs will move on to better projects.
I want a Predator game myself, maybe have the Yautja you play as be customizable, and the gameplay being like the Batman Arkham games, but with some elements of Warframe in there
I do feel bad for the people who was working in the game tho, even if the game came out and was going to be meh, i still feel bad for the people working and having their job scrapped
Guess this was quite messed up for SEGA and Creative Assembly (Makers of Total War). Even Sonic Superstars was never been successful as Super Mario Wonder became a Huge Hit and Successful for Nintendo.
Superstars has a lot of issues, the pc port is anticonsumer at best and sega didn't disclosed about denuvo or epic before release, you can see it on the archived pre-release store page, and the game itself is pretty mediocre.
Free to play is always an instant red flag for me, it means the publisher knows it isn't worth buying, and no amount of skins being dangled in my face is going to change anything.
7:40 Hot Take: _Battlefield V_ was better and deserved to stay actively developed and having content released for it. The only thing 2042 has going for it is that it has a memorial item for Thick44 (RIP, you magnificent man) in it.
I dont even bother playing AAA fps games anymore, if their not DOA, they're dead when servers shut down or "live service" is left starving. Calling AAA suits Hyenas is an insult to the animal.
It's even worse than your imagined scenario. Creative Assembly were the corporate suits. The team that made this game were the console team. Sega canceled this game because this game had a massive budget and no sign of return on investment. Sega had nothing to do with this game's creation CA did this to themselves.
Honestly the mood video mood sounds a bit like story trailer for that one Ubisoft Battle Royale that flopped hard. You know, one where environment is pretty messed up so people spend time in VR and the VR BR is the most popular sport? Yeah, it had a somewhat quirky narration that made it lighthearted but it DID promise a metanarrative of people trying to uncover dark secrets about megacorp that runs the VR and etc. That thing also went nowhere. I just really doubt these games are sold using a story.
Im so glad that customers have decided that quips = dead game. So many games that could have been pretty good have been ruined by terrible writing and annoying characters who have to chip in every few seconds. The amount of damage Guardians of the galaxy (movie), apex and fortnight have done to AAA games is insane. It really exposes how almost every AAA studio is ordered around by the same idiots to make the same game and hsve the public react the same way, apathy as tge game dissolves into obscurity
I remember looking at the trailer for this game and instantly thinking "Ugh. Another one of those! Who gives a fuck." and not checking it ever again. I didn't even know that it was cancelled and hearing that Creative Assembly is going to be under fire for the idiotic ideas of out of touch business morons tickles my nerves in all the wrong ways. Wish CA the best. They didn't deserve to waste time and know-how on this trash fire.
@@ESCalation supposedly, yeah, I think there was a sneak beta as soon as CoD MWIII was announced, which made it go under the radar even more, I imagine they're waiting until MWIII releases so they can bank on the people who don't want to play it after release, otherwise, it might go the way of the Dodo as information on the game is getting scarce.
Well, they had it coming, so having any sympathy at all is hard. But I think its wrong to blame Sega. From my knowledge, this was purely Creative Assembly's idea and to finance it, they have increased the DLC price for Total War Warhammer 3.
You're friends with Zool ? The same person responsible for Classic Offensive ? Im jealous now ❤ thanks for the video ! I had no idea Sega was even making a game 😮
Man I remember being hammered by ads on instagram for this game. Then it all suddenly ceased. Another FPS by Creative Assembly no matter how how bad it looked gave me hope for a future Alien Isolation sequel. If only dreams were reality.
I really hope this doesn't go the Gollum route, where an entire studio of competent devs just trying to earn a salary but hamstrung and pummeled by soulless corpos get their studio "taken behind the barn" because of, practically, no honest fault of their own. Most devs aren't "lazy" and don't want to make a shit product. It's often everything else that makes the devs unable to make a finished polished product (sleeping under your desk for weeks and eating from vending machines doesn't really allow for peak performance.)
I haven't really heard much about Hyenas so I can't comment on it specifically but I'm starting to feel like Sega has gone the Ubisoft/Farcry route with their Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise, introducing microtransactions for things like gaining skill points faster in the case of LAD:Ishin (which I feel has also included online DRM in goddamn singleplayer??), weapon crafting materials and character and job levels in the RPG oriented games Yakuza: Like a Dragon and it seems to be the exact same for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (confusing naming scheme, I know). In general it's been a red flag that I refuse to overlook with Sega recently. I've become mildly cynical when it comes to video games as of late, particularly when it comes to that feeling of being treated as a wet dish cloth when it comes to valuing your "currency" whether it is actual money or just your time. It's a shame, as I had a blast with the Yakuza series only to see that the game has transactions in a singleplayer game.
Ubisoft? Just Like Capcom with paywall cheats and time savers in Resident Evil or paywall orbs in DMC 5 or trash "DLC" in Monster Hunter or trash Steet Figther monetization including NFT
if only they added playable hyena characters...
Would have raised the game for me^^

you're welcome! It's also crazy how much it diverted from the original vision.
Another problem with this game was the marketing. You're video last year was the first and only time I heard about the game before it got scrapped.
REALLY?! I know they didn't talk about it much, but man nothing at all is harsh. They didn't generate hype for sure
I only heard of the game cuz if his video and a random weapon showcase that appeared while searching
